Lynskey Status?

Anyone heard anything about Lynskey having production or financial difficulties?

They are 2+ weeks late on delivering a frame and they haven’t answered the phone or returned a call in 10 days……..

Well, at least their voice jail system doesn't answer with the infuriating: "due to unusually high call volume...."

Unfortunately the phone thing is not just them it is rampant, a lot of companies make you not want to call them or if you can speak to someone they cannot help or in some cases they just say yeah you need to fill something out on the website. When you call my shop assuming we don't have other calls or aren't in the shop you get a live human as soon as we can get to the phone and these humans are in the shop not a call center somewhere.

I saw they posted up a bunch of last year's frames for dirt cheap on ebay. I assume its to push out old stock and make room for new frames/models. So is that something you consider a 'production difficulty'?

Sucks that they havent gotten you your frame or responded.
Inconsistent communication and cheap products/prices tend to go hand in hand, though its never wanted.

Bikes: Tarmac Disc Comp Di2 - 2020

Seems like in the past years, other members have complained about only hearing cricket's when they try to contact Lynskey about anything. Including their bike being custom made and passed the due date.

But I might be confusing with another Ti bike builder.

They are still active on Instagram, and they just recently moved their online shop to Shopify. It sounds like they are doing fine. Message them on Instagram. Or simply be patient, I am sure they are simply behind.

Or an attempt to get some cash flow. I noticed some crazy discounts being pushed on their site.

Not surprising that they might be inundated with orders at the beginning of March. "I need to go on a diet because I'm going to the beach next week!"

I don’t see the reply I thought I left: Lynskey makes good bikes but their customer service is bad/incompetent in my experience and my experience is backed up by friends’ experiences as well. Their dealers hated them when they were available in shops. Something’s gotta give when you offer ti bikes for so little.

OP heard back from them, they had a rash of illness with the flu increasing in the area, which I can totally believe as the flu map I saw showed a huge increase in cases moving north as those massive cold spell were hitting. I have quite a few co-workers up that way, and quite a few of them or their kids have been out sick as of late. I have one of their 2025 frame pending and expected some delay, but it could be worse, it could be the 12 months I waited on a bike I ordered in 2022 and did not receive until 2023..

Lynskey is the Bed, Bath, & Beyond of the bike world - they more or less always have a sale, so why would anyone pay full price? And that’s exactly why their dealers hated them.

As is Litespeed. But fwiw, they're both great manufacturers with good value in titanium frames

I’ve never owned a Litespeed, but we’ve had three Lynskeys in my family. I’ve noted some burn through on some cable stops and the hooded rear dropout on my current bike as well as some questionable spec decisions on my wife’s bike. Because they’ve been cheap enough I can look past the faults but I don’t consider them to be anywhere near the quality of a Moots, Firefly, or the like. But I wouldn’t expect that for the price. I do know a few folks who have experienced cracks in their seat tubes, near the BB, but it hasn’t happened on any of ours. One friend had to send his frame back to Lynskey twice.

They are way late and don't give you any response or reason. No one on the phone will tell you what is going on. They have a stock email response that says Tim Lynskey will reach out, but he never does. If you want a bike soon, don't order from Lynskey.

I bought my Lynskey around 2015 and shortly after there was a big dust up between Lynskey and local dealers. I bought mine from LBS.

However, the shop owner told me recently that everyone has made up and there is a good relationship now.

I do love mine, but that said, if the customer service is not good, there are other Ti bikes out there.

Speaking of soon, you posted your response five months after the OP posted.

That's not true at all. I just emailed them on Monday afternoon, and had a response Tuesday morning before I even got out of bed.

I bought my frame last November, got it a week afterwards, and they've responded to 5 different emails of mine, no later than 2 days.

I know a few people with Lynskeys that are not cracked and I haven't heard a bunch of modern Lynskey or Litespeeds cracking I do recall some stuff in the 90s but I haven't seen anything recently. I know before Chumba was doing their own Ti frames in house they were contracting with Lynskey and I talked to them about that and they hadn't seen issues and they sold quite a few but I will say I saw the first Ti frame they were building and it was looking nice. I would love to know more if there is a real issue but when I did an quick google search it was coming up with some older stuff.

I had read on here, or maybe MTBR, that one person had a cracked frame, but, I wonder how many are sold, before there is an issue. I wonder if it isn't a case of people are always quick to share a bad experience. Sometimes, those issues get blown out of proportion. I'm a pretty big guy, and have a GR300, so we'll see how it holds up over time. I'm not too worried about it, myself.
