Hate is a strong word. I don't hate, and I doubt Eben Weiss does either, gravel riders. I do dislike riders who don't use a warning bell to pass and dog owner who dont pick up after their pets. If you want to subscribe to an aesthetic created by a bike manufacturer's marketing team and Grizl like the Buddha on your Grizl, go nuts.

I didn't ride a bicycle on a paved road until I moved back to Nebraska in 2002. I learned to ride on dirt, mud, sand, and gravel when I got a single speed bike at 5 or 6.

I took a truck or tractor after I could reach the pedals and the horses a lot to get through the terrain.

I've been to all but a handful of states in the northwest and sotheast US, 2 other continents, and 8 European city/states. Europe is so small.

The US is basically the same everywhere with urban core population, suburbs, and then rural areas. With some different chain stores. You can fly into most cities and get to middle of nowhere looking farm ground in an hour or less driving. Minus one or two cities that plug up with excessive traffic and slow you to a crawl. Fly in well before rush hour there.

I prefer more rural settings. Cities are too dirty and crime ridden for my liking. Even the one I'm in now which is very, very safe and clean by most standards. I can fly to different places to see new things if I want. Day to day quality of life for the family is important. That's why I moved back here.

Couldn't pay me to live in some cities I've visited for work and travel. Trenton, NJ is a horrible place. I stayed on the PA side and drove in every day. Philly I could pass on too. Chicago, DFW, etc are just huge expanses of the same looking suburbs. Chicago is mildly interesting downtown but no different than other skyscrapper cities. Denver is a pass through to get to Moab or skiing. LA to San Diego is a parking lot with a high cost of living. I've been to NYC and DC several times. Wouldn't live in either.

Got me thinking of the next trip now. The last one was Alaska. Nice place once you get out of the city. Anchorage was full of homeless people.

You continually judge people based on how they dress, or how they look. That my friend, is prejudice, and you're full of it, in more ways than one. You should quit while you're behind.

When you burst upon the scene you were bewildered by Trek’s marketing and now we are supposed to believe you are a marketing maven?

Fat chance.

Planned multi km gravel ride on well-known gravel trails

Otherwise, stretches of interconnected rural roads.

Prefer pavement when available, which is always in the city and often at the cottage.

I just learned that I do a lot of fake gravel riding. Hell, I don't even have a beard. Clearly, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Yes, I recall. I asked what The World's Colliding announcement from Trek was about, which drove much of the usual BF chorus into a tizzy for some reason. Never could figure out why.

The announcement turned out to be about a mash-up of two distinct bikes to create the new Madone.

So you've ridden multiple kilometers on gravel?

I am ashamed to have questioned your credibility.

"Judgy McJudgeface"? Seriously? That's the best you can do ... a seven year-old's insult?? Not worthy of a 'lol'. If you are going to persist in trolling teh Biek Formz you really need to up your insult game. We do have standards around here, you know.

No I don't judge you, You will never see me, or hear me judge someone because of what they wear whilst cycling, or what they choose to ride. I judge the fact you continually denigrate others who ride, or wear something you do not like, or simply how they look. I tried for a very long time to give you the benefit of the doubt, and tried to like you and help you in threads where you asked questions that seemed legitimate. As of late, I find I cannot do that. You continually put down other riders because of the way they dress. You even began to bring race into things on another thread until I, and others called you out, then you backed off. Once you began criticizing bike riders because of they chosen dress, or their chosen type of bike or activity, and gave off the impression that you feel you are better than them, I lost all respect for you. You lack credibility.

One reason people answer the way they do, is because you post countless threads asking questions, many of which seem designed to simply troll, and others which seem legitimate, yet when you get actual answers, you dismiss the answers, because you know better. When you don't get the answers you think are correct, ones that do not match up with what you already have chosen, you go into fight mode and denigrate those actually trying to help you. Maybe you do know better. If so, stop posting so many questions, and read other people's questions and offer suggestions or advice.

If you actually do ride, and I don't doubt you do, perhaps you could see it in yourself and apologize for all the judging you have done towards so many who possibly dress, or look like those you criticize, or choose to engage in a style of bike riding you feel is beneath you. You have criticized bike touring, gravel riding, etc. You have done a great job of denigrating probably over half of the riders on Bike Forums. Why don't you start over. I say all this with honest respect.

Yawn. Yet another post unrelated to Eben Weiss or the inane branding that created a subculture of the unwashed. If defining the word Grizl as to "bike with no goals" and dubbing a handlebar The Full Mounty is not ripe for your ridicule, then move along.

NYBS appeals to those who are fascinated by water fountains and shiny, spinning trinkets.

No doubt stolen from the contest from a white back to name a British researcher vessel. The crowd favorite was Boaty McBoatface.
