Just for Mike, I was trying to come up with some "old man music" with 7 in the title. You know, because he's got a kid in college and is probably older than me.
"Seven Seas of Rhye" by Queen was too easy.... "Seven" by Taylor Swift and "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes probably don't apply since they are too new.

The Alfine 8 on my IGH bike has a gear readout window which I find very useful. My default is 5 on that bike, and I use it as a baseline or reference point to make my ride more efficient.

I went to see this movie [There's Something About Mary] not knowing it was a comedy, because the (written) review I saw was so dry and straightforward about the premise and plot that there was ZERO clue as to the actual absurdist and comedic 'tone' of the film. "Tailor of Panama" (Pierce Brossnan, Jamie Lee Curtis) was another movie that flipped the script and made what was a rather dark John Le Carre spy novel into something much lighter on screen. I don't read movie reviews (or watch trailers) anymore. Actually, the last movie I saw was "Arrival". I've saved enough cash by staying clear of Marvel Universe releases to buy Deason a top brand Single Speed (or Fixie if he is man enough) in the 'default gear ratio' of his choice. But I probably won't because he doesn't need my help buying bikes for niche use cases.

The drummer was David Robinson, who went on to co-found The Cars. Jerry Harrison played keyboards. He went on to be the keyboardist for Talking Heads. Impressive lineup.
Finally got to see Richman in concert earlier this year. Great show.

Some say it's the prototypical punk song, but I don't think so. It's just a great track.

How do you determine if your ride is more/less efficient? What are you measuring the efficiency of? How does your "7" or "5" relate to any of the gears on someone else's bike?

Try this...If your cadence is lower than your comfort zone, shift. If your cadence is higher than your comfort zone, shift. Go by the feel in your legs, not the number on your gear indicator.

How does any of this make your shifting "more accurate"? Accurate how? In my understanding, accurate shifting means the bike is changing gears quickly, and when it reaches the next gear it is precisely indexed on the cog/chainring. Are you talking about the same thing?

Killing two birds with one stone.
I'm not happy with the display or lack of Navigation screen customization on my Edge Explore, so I have ordered the Edge 1050, which will provide a clearer and more customizable display and allow me to view and track gear index and gear ratios easily.
Problem solved.
