How many times are you going to claim to be ignoring me, and then either quote me or otherwise acknowledge reading my posts?

I mean, it was funny at first. Now I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for you.

Oh, and don't ask for evidence without providing any yourself. You're the one who made the claim. Or are you just assuming, and not finding out?

sadly, you never have figured out how these forums work... but keep trying!

the "evidence" is clear... it was posted in this thread... go back through all 378 posts, carefully.

If you are referring to myself that’s a classic move. Anytime someone attempts to debate what the current situation is to those cemented in the past they are trolls.

Uncorrect.

i hope campy kept their lawyers on the payroll.. they can help with the bankruptcy proceedings.

"Ugly crankset" equals "I like what I like; everything else is ugly."

The skinny frame tubes of my one remaining steel bike now look a little ugly to me compared to my sleek welded aluminum bikes, but I'm self-aware enough to realize my personal preference means nothing to anyone else.

Which reminds me:

Back in the early '90's, I happened to be standing near a clothing rack in our shop when a guy who was wearing a Team Polti jersey pulled a Mapei jersey off the rack and held it up for his girlfriend to look at. He guffawed, "I'd look like a clown in this!"

His girlfriend and I looked at each other. Neither of us said a word.

And, from a Bike Radar article:

"As expected, then, these new Super Record 13 X components aren’t cheap. It’s fair to say these prices are in line with the direct competition, however. Super Record 13 X is even a little cheaper than SRAM’s 13-speed Red XPLR AXS groupset at RRP, which costs around £3,500 or dollars."

Campy EKAR 13-speed cassettes are under $300. Where are you seeing $1,000 Campy 13-speed cassettes?

I wouldn't bank on any rear derailleur surviving an impact intact, except maybe a Huret Allvit.

i saw that ad in this thread.... and then found a similarly outrageously priced offering online.
there are several versions of Ekar and Super Record 13sp. cassettes, btw. i may have called the 13sp cassette ekar or super record.. not bothering tracking down the exact word used....

as to the "ugly" comment i made, you're right, it's just my opinion. like your unspoken opinion on the jersey... i was referring to the solid ring 1x offering with the odd "decoration" of the cover......
i'll just drop this link here, so that other folks can form their own opinions....... my opinion about that thing will not change.
here's a more direct link, i hope... the first one led to the overall SR 13 page...
https://www.campagnolo.com/us-en/1x-...ECORD1X13.html

the first posted, general campy 13 page link...

maddog34 12-08-25 01:31 PM

from campy's own website... regarding the ugly Single Ring crankset.
"Technical innovation and distinctive design: perfect balance between performance, aesthetics and adaptability.

Aero single-chainring: new redesigned tooth profile to optimize pedaling and make shifting smoother, faster, more precise and quieter."

yes.. silent SHIFTING from a Single chainring....?
i'd imagine that will get abridged soon... i hope!
Clearly, Campagnolo has now outsourced their Ad copy writing chores to Shenzhen, China.

Their most expensive cassette seems to be the 13 speed SR Ultra, which is listed at 620 Euros at their own website -- that's $721. (I would guess it's available for even less from other sellers.)

The next-tier down Campy Super Record X 13 cassette is 418 Euros direct from Campy...That's about $480 -- less than half the amount you're claiming.

For some reason, their website doesn't show prices for the Ekar 13sp cassettes, but here is the nicest one for $255.

You just read something in this thread that confirmed your bias, and you swallowed it -- hook, line, and sinker -- and didn't bother spending ten seconds to check it out. And your ego is too fragile to simply admit to a mistake.

You're forgetting the front chainring is still part of a multi-speed drivetrain, so there's still shifting and front ring performance affects that shifting.

Bike Radar - Campagnolo Lost its Way

All the same points were made in this forum. I assume he is a Campagnolo hater as well? The comments are just as enlightening; however, Bike Radar followers seem more up to date on issues and trends.

CliffordK 12-08-25 04:53 PM

Laying off 40% of the workforce is huge. But I'm stunned that that meant laying off 120 employees out of 300 employees. That just seems like a tiny number of employees.

And €24 Million Losses seem to be huge for such a tiny company.

I've used Campagnolo 11 components. Is that dating me? Anyway, my choice was to used a mixed groupset, and was always annoyed that Campagnolo and Shimano were always just a little bit different in their sprocket spacing. Has that gone away?

The girlfriend's opinion was unspoken, too. She somehow managed to combine a deadpan expression with the merest hint on an eye roll.

Anyway, you're a bike shop guy, so you've got to have plenty of anecdotes from customer encounters. That topic might make a good thread.

FYI, here are the jerseys in question. Much of a muchness, in my opinion. (He was wearing the Team Polti and laughing at the Mapei.)

The layoffs were just at HQ in Vicenza, as I understand it; much of the reporting is unclear.

I personally prefer the Mapei. That color pattern and shapes reminds me of something I have seen in recent months, possible on the forum, but I can't recall. Might have just been that jersey on a cyclist.

Regarding the Polti, I don't know what's going on with that thumb, but it appears slightly obscene. Or nuclear. One or the other. Or both.

strangely.. i have a CF Colnago fork hiding somewhere that matches that mapei jersey... an extra 10 bucks got it included in a mass parts buy once.

team Polti uses U of O Ducks Colors... Cool!
the farting thumb is a bit...... odd tho...
meh... farting and duck quaking are easily confused, so it works.

i find it strange that anyone that doesn't blindly support a company that is it's own worst enemy, gets labeled a "hater"... it's not that i have ever hated campy, it's that i pity them in their self-caused downfall, but that pity won't take away my opinions. ever.

the end zone of this thread is now drilliumed to death with former goalpost holes..
whelp.. back to wheel building... two in one day taxes my aging thumb joints... i'll be taking ibuprofen real soon... like, NOW.
i got a bit of a reprieve when one customer showed up with the wrong style of new hubs... or it would have been 2x the pain..

Up to 16 pages now. Has Campy died yet?

Not yet. But this thread should definitely die.

Let’s not get it closed. I am looking forward to revisiting it in a couple of years.

There is a lot I’m looking forward to in the next couple years… My daughter’s wedding, some springtime landscaping projects on our new property, watching our puppy grow up. I can’t imagine caring enough about a bike parts company that it would even be on the radar. But that’s just me and my life.

Don't forget maintaining your posting rate of over 23 posts a week! But yes, life exists outside of these forums, and I'm trying hard not to let the old man in.

I can attest to this, having had one in the 70s. It didn't work great but seemed to survive my neglectful, cluelessness.

Gotta think he was being facetious, and maybe the GF was rolling her eyes at the lameness of his normal sense of humor? I know facetiousness, especially so subtle intended to make people wonder, gets real tiring after a while.
