Pity party
If you spend a lifetime being active, eventually an injury will happen. I can't complain too much. I've spent a lifetime riding, rock climbing, and skiing. One finger injury and an arthritic toe. Not too bad really. My own genetics have held me back more than my injuries.
On Wednesday I added to the tally, this one is going to be a bit more problematic.
Ski crash in poor visibility. Torn meniscus, it's avulsed off the bone. Minor MCL tear and tibial plateau fracture but those will probably heal on their own.
Currently waiting to hear back from the surgeon. It's not a matter of surgery. It's a matter of what kind and recovery. The most likely scenario puts me back to work in 6-8 weeks. Probably will start riding stationary as soon as I'm cleared. Not sure I'll be hucking my bike over doubles and taking drops this year.
I've cancelled my order on a new FS bike I was beyond excited about. Sigh.
I'd began training to run a sub 5 minute mile this year, just because that seems like a thing most guys in their late 40's can't do. Pause.
Trip to Lego Land in a month, I might need a scooter. Lame.
Whistler in June, fingers crossed.
And of course, the snow forecast looks great, finally. My kids were on a roll, with one less parent on the hill, I'm afraid they won't get hardly any more skiing this year.
Such is life. Financially it will be fine. It'll work out. It's just not as much fun as it could have been.

Wishing you the best possible outcome. Being active and in shape should help speed the process. Being a person who pushes themselves physically will give you the drive to overcome this setback.

So very sorry to learn of your accident. Having dreams and plans crushed is one thing but facing surgery, recovery and rehab is another. Hope you beat expectations in the healing and recovery phase so you can get back to being active. Damn!

If you had to tear a meniscus, avulsed off the bone sounds like the best way. Bone is metabolically active and vascular, cartilage, not so much. To my nonmedical mind (this is the internet after all) that is a good thing.
Sorry if I'm putting a damper on your party.

At this point, I'm in limbo. Having a problem that's completely debilitating but non life threatening. Not enough for the Ortho trauma guys to deal with but it sucks hard waiting for he sports med guys to get to me. I'm hoping to have a better idea by Tuesday or Wednesday.

rosefarts: Sorry to hear about your serious mishap and wish you a complete recovery.
The pity party part referred only to the cancelation of his bike order.

I fully expect to ride and ride hard again, I figured a little bit of discretion wouldn't hurt. It's not the last one ever made.

Challenges are life. I am not jumping into a pity party. Do what needs to be done for full recovery. Find alternatives to occupy the downtime. Some days are long, but everyday has it's moment of the day. Make the most of that moment.
Wishing you well in the recovery.🙂 🚴

Sad to hear of your travail and good luck with the operation and rehab. Something like that seems to jump out every so often for many and I'm sure you'll make the most of the rehab interval.

Total pisser !
NOT rushing recovery will be the hardest thing to do. Rushing recovery will be the WORST thing to do. Engage your brain and your body will thank you.
Have a short difficult time and not a longer difficult life..
Almost everyone thinks that they know better than the doctor. Guess how rare an event that actually is.
Don't ask me how I know this

Worse than not getting a new bike is getting a new bike I can't ride. I've seen too many marketplace ads about a bike that got ridden a handful of times and then it got parked due to injury.
I fully expect to ride and ride hard again, I figured a little bit of discretion wouldn't hurt. It's not the last one ever made.

you will get through it....as you have no choice
At to the new bike, you will probably be able to get it on sale by waiting or something even cooler will be available.....
Gotta look through the rose colored glasses.... pun intended

For us old guys they don’t repair meniscus tears, they just replace the whole damned thing…with about 6 months of rehab.

Tough break on the knee injury. But look on the bright side, you made it out of there. This ski season in Lake Tahoe, 3 people already died skiing at Northstar (This is a very safe Vail resort), and just over the weekend, another 2 skiers died in separate accidents at Heavenly. That is in addition to the 9 who died back country skiing across the freeway from Boreal. And earlier in the season 2 died at Mammoth.

I had an informal update, a surgeon who is not my doc looked at the MRI and thinks there's a good chance I don't need surgery. I can't currently walk, even with the brace. That's probably good news.
