At present have Velocities are on my commuter bikes, which means- quite often carrying a fair amount of weight in panniers. NOt sure Velocity makes rims with that idea in mind? that was the reason for my posting this message.

Right now when I take the back roads they can be pretty well potted and worn. Probably not a great idea to not have the strongest of rims.
Read this thread from SS/FG: https://69.16.211.161/showthread.php?t=106097

John Black, President of Velocity, responds in the thread. Both SS/FG and Roadie forums have lots of well-satisfied Velocity customers.

Which rims? What's the spoke count/pattern? How much weight?

Deep V's with 32/36 spoke count are bomb-proof/Clydesdale proof.

From: upstate NY (eastern side)

Bikes: giant ATX 760, Falcon Road Bike (ss) custom marinoni tourismo (full dresser) ,

I believe I would.

I purchased a set of Velocity Dyad rims through Super spokes and I have to say Im pretty happy with them.

I called velocity up front and inquired about what I wanted for a build They gave me the particulars and then I ordered the wheels from Greg at Super spokes.

Greg was super to deal with.

Im 247lb and wanted a solid build for my full dresser commute bike velocity was one of the only companies that could easily build me a touring rim for 135 spacing that had 40 hole rear 36 front.
I also could choose 130 or 135 Nice to have options.

I checked with LBS (7) and some other online shops and I was told that a 40H rear not possible unless I bought a set of tandem rims/hubs which would have been too wide. Velocity In MI can drill any thing you want for the most part.

The hubs are the Force brand which has a good following in the single speed and fixie camps, the bearings are upgraded by velocity to a sealed cartridge type .

cant complain Im a happy camper and it didnt break the bank.

appreciate the input. Because of the replacement of the original Velocity set, I have slightly two different models of Velocities. On the front are Velocity Vee's- aerohead. 32 count. On the rear 'Dyad's' 32 spoke count.
My weight can vary greatly after Christmas. normal summer weight is 190 lbs. The rear panniers might carry as much as about 20 pounds , max. but, if carrying much - usually not more than a couple miles.
I need do a better job of looking for problems considering said weld failure.

Cyclezealot: Definitely. I have a fixed gear wheel that is built with a IRO (Formula) hub and a Velocity Cliff Hanger wheel. Its 32 spoke with 14ga spokes. I weight about 310 lbs and regularly carry 30lbs in my panniers. I have had the wheel for about 7 months and have put well over 1000 miles with not a single broken spoke, and its just as true now as the day I got it. Its been through some pretty tough hits with the potholes in my area. I would not hesitate to buy them again and again. In fact when I build another bike, it will have velocity wheels on it for sure.

GO VELOCITY!

PS- too much tension will ruin *any* rim, eyeletted or not.

Well, I mentioned nipple galling, the deluterious effects of the anodizing process on 'luminum, and eylets vs not, so I think i added some technical elements to the thread.

dufus, your contribution about Velocity rims was what again exactly?

How is the durability of the braking surface on the Deep Vs? I'm considering them but the bike they would be for would see a lot of commuting time. Even with Kool Stop salmon pads the wet weather is murder on rims.
