Here is what Adam Spencer had to say at around 6.30am on Triple J this morning:

"Good morning to the person who stole my bike last night. If I ever meet you, I will f**king kill you."

(no need for italics or emphasis in that quote. The way the speech was delivered can be described as eerily calm).

We've had two stolen from our offices in the last 2 days (boltcutters in daylight)

Glad I insisted in mine being in the garage.

I can sympathise with the sentiment. A bike is a very personal thing.

A pointless tirade of Adam Spencer.

It would have made sense if he described calmly the facts of what happened and analyzed what he could do differently to prevent the disaster.

The facts of what happened, but not what he thinks happened.

Boltcutters in daylight? Did someone see them? If not, what makes you believe these were boltcutters? The damaged locks on the ground? Or were the locks gone too? If yes, did someone had an access to the keys? Could it happen that locks were forgotten to be locked. Locks of what brand and what price?

If yes. Were both the U-lock and cable cut neatly with the boltcutters? Could it be a disk saw, a hammer on a pad, or a acetylene torch. Did you hear a saw or hammer sound, but did not pay attention to it? Was the cable cut messy?

Such and similar details would share the valuable rare experience about the crimial tactics in that area. Instead we got the useless temper flare.

Read the posts again. Adam Spencer is a radio announcer who simply mentioned that someone stole his bike and that he would like to kill the offender. It says nothing about boltcutters in day light.

Chewa followed up with a post about bikes being stolen from his place of employment using boltcutters in daylight. Maybe you could politely ask Chewa about the evidence rather than giving us your own temper flare.

Please see Mediacreations post.

To answer your questions re the thefts from offices in Edinburgh (not even in the same hemisphere as Australia) they are:

Yes, No-one saw anything as the bikes were in a basement area under pavement level, cable and locks cut off, Locks on ground, no access to keys, locks locked. One cheapo, the other a Kryptonite cable lock. Two bikes, one day after another. One a Scott, the other a lot cheaper. Two other bikes untouched.

Chewa, I realized that you wrote about another case. Adam Spencer probably did not even mentioned any details at all, which would bring his listeners the valuable first hand experience.

Instead, he just spoke angrily about his stolen bike, making silly threats. We can expect more from public figures. It was my point.

His bike was stolen!! What does it matter if it was locked, not locked, hack sawed, cut etc.
It was stolen, period. Stolen is stolen regardless of how!!
Stating what he will do the the low life is a symptom of his frustration. Although a thorough bashind would be in order.
Perhaps sweeping the thiefs knee would be suitable so he couldn't ride a bike.

Catch em if ya can!

Maybe it's just a cultural thing. If you knew anything about Triple J and Adam Spencer's sense of humour you might understand. I can see your point Max, but I don't think you're getting the full picture. As Chris said, Adam said what he did in a calm voice - he did not speak in an angry manner as you keep insisting.

I think he may have been trying to bring some humour into it. Adam Spencer and Wil Anderson take the p!ss out of just about everything. You should have heard their tirade on the "lifestyle shows" on Australian Television.
