and the newest addition to the stable, an honest-to-god road bike. i haven't owned one in years, but i felt it was time to spoil myself.
http://bile.best.vwh.net/images/bike...s/somafull.jpg

it's a one-day-old soma doublecross, their cross/touring/commuting/whatever bike.

i'd forgotten how quiet non-knobby tires were. also, the indexed barcons are a big step up from the ancient suntour XC friction thumbshifters on the beater.

the Sti shifter I think is very low, if you have rode thAT BIKE i would assume that your having wrist pain, my suggestion is try raising the shifter/or raise the handle bar b by loosining the stem bolt, and just adjust the handle bar, , and you will notice the big difference, happy ride, by the way you got a nice bike

ivelina 05-22-03 02:26 PM

Yes, you are correct. The shifters are low but I don't have pain b/c it just happened a couple of days ago when I changed my stem.

I didn't look to see where they were before so when I was putting them nback I was not 100% sure where I would want them. Late on I moved the bar down the way that feels best fr me and it also brought the shofters far out and down.
I have not done anything about it b/c it means re-doing the tape and haven't gotten around to it.. but I will :)

I am riding a Cannondale R300 spec'd for commuting on nice days and a Specialized Rockhopper FS for bad weather. I also ride a Raleigh Retroglide and have a Burley Rumba tandem with my brother. His main bike is a Trek Y-foil 66 with Campy Chorus. He also rides a Specialized Hardrock and an old Schwinn road bike...can't remember the model. Oh and a host of old Huffys and Murrays in the garage with the pieces of a vintage Motobecane that my brother was rebuilding.

To all of you out there subscibing to this forum that DON'T belong to the minimal minds club, hello again.
Sorry I have been away for so long but the reception that I got last I was on kind of put a bad taste in my mouth.
To all of you who out there who want to know what I ride, (I know that I will catch a lot of "you know what" for this but to tell you the truth, if I can get a few more percentage points out of my system than you because I ride the System III then who cares!?) my standard system is one of the old Fuji Del Rey's. No bells and whistles but a great all around performer.
Please note that the System III was NOT performance-tested on this system. I ride it because I LIKE it (I am a roady after all).
At the risk of gathering even more "you know what" from the minimal minds club, I will tell you that I am quite impressed with the array of performance systems of both genres that evereyone has been contacting me about. I, in all fairness must tell everyone that performance testing did include both road and off-road systems and that increased performance was statistically significant for both.
Well, I've got to go pick up my kids so adios for now.
Keep the cards and letters coming folks, I may not be able to answer all but I will promise you, if the design changes and funding come through you will all be hearing about the System III within a year.
Thanks for the support!

you don't have to undoe the bar tape, just loosen the stem bolt on the handle bar and raise the handle bAR THAT WILL DO THE TRICK

ivelina 05-22-03 08:06 PM

I am now riding my new Marinoni Delta Extra.

Bikinguy 06-02-03 05:45 AM

Hi All,
Those are some beautiful bikes. Sad to say my bike is ugly. I bought it for 400 bucks added custom made mavic 32 spoke wheels and a brooks b17 saddle.
Its a c'dale 500 cad 3 frame with one of those suspension front forks which gives about an 1.5 inch travel . I thought I would ride this bike for around 3000 miles and then get a good bike but 15,000 miles later I just love this bike.

Ride Safe.....Dudley
