Cannondale R4000 Team Saeco with a mixture of D/A and Ultegra, Open Pro Wheels

Rans V-Rex semi-modified for Touring (in the process of building a tailbox)

Trek 6500 MTB frame extended 1.25" in the rear and set up for road touring with full pannier system, drop bars, XT-XTR drive, and D/A barcon shifters, similar to a Bruce Gordon BLT-X. Oh, and I forgot to include the Seat! Brooks Rules!!!!

Specialized FSR Team Pro for bouncing around in the mud or on dirt!

Looking forward to seeing some of you on the road!

Awesome, that's my junker too! Not only is it my riding junker, but it's my "maintenance trainee" junker as well. :D

Foul weather/commuter: 1990 Stumpjumper w/ 1.5" Nimbus Slicks, orig. Deore DX components.

Fair weather/training/roadie/turning around at unnatural speeds:
2003 Soma DoubleCross with 105 gruppo, panaracer 700x32,

Life is good :)

Road bike:

LeMond 2001 Poprad. Replaced the drivetrain with Shimano 105 components. Replaced the front brake with Shimano Alivio. Replaced saddle with Specialized Body Geometry Comp. Rear wheel was built by my LBS. Front wheel is the stock wheel that came with the bike.

Commuter bike:

Purchased from LBS going out of business for $75. GT Outpost, circa early 1990's (I believe). Mixed parts all over it. I attach panniers for the commute.

Here is a pic of my road bike (hope it works)

It is a 2002 model Apollo RDZ2000
Shimano Sora 8 speed (16)
Sora all round.... not bad for first bike but looking to spend serious $$$ on next bike :D

WorldIRC 02-15-03 02:01 PM

I must say, for a bike with Sora all around, thats a nice looking bike.

Waxbytes 02-16-03 03:22 PM

NZLcyclist,

I would not be in too much of a hurry to spend "serious $$$" on a next bicycle. Unless your a racer or are loaded down by the weight of your "serious $$$" the Apollo looks to be 90% of anything you would get with a whole lot more money. All I see there that actually might need to be upgraded is you would find clipless pedals a real benefit. That's my opinion, for whatever it's worth.

NZLcyclist 02-16-03 06:53 PM

Indeed it looks good (when it is clean that is, white shows the grime too well). The reason I want to spend some serious $$$ is that I really want to get into racing, but I would keep this as a training bike as it is quite strong – but it is a wee bit on the heavy side (the frame is heavy, not the components and wheel set etc).

I have purchased some Wellgo Magnesium Look design pedals and have had them fitted for a while now, and I am using SiDi shoes.

also I am replacing the tyres with Michelin Axial bi-sport ones when the cheap Kendas that came with it wear out.

My main road bike is a 84 Trek 660 with Reynolds 531cs tubing that has the entire Suntour Superbe group. Still runs good and in excellent shape with over 65k miles no need to change-yet. But I have been googling at a new Colnago Master X-Light with Campy Chorus that my LBS has on sale for $2500 in my size and love the color...I have a feeling this is going to be my first new road bike since 84!

I have three steeds (bikes) currently in the stable (laundry room).

1999 Rocky Mtn, Thin Air. With mucho upgrades. Built up from a frame only. 00' Rock Shox SID, King headset, XT/XTR drivetrain mix, XT disc brakes, Thompson seat post and stem combo, IRD carbon riser bar, Mavic 517 rims to XT disc hubs, ODI lock on grips.

2002 Cove, Stiffee. Manitou Black Elite 100/120, King Steelset, LX/XT drivetrain mix, Hayes brakes, Race Face Diabolous stem and XY seat post combo, Kona cromo Buldge three piece cranks two rings and a bashguard set up, Shimano DX flat pedals, Titec Hellbent riser bar, ODI lock on grips.

1993 Rocky Mtn. Cirrus. This bike has seen many changes over the years. Currently used as a beater and still sees the most riding. Able to put some nice parts on it too, with some recent add ons to the other two bikes. XT 8 spd set up, single 46 tooth ring up front, Avid brakes and levers, Sun Rims to XT hubs.

Gotta get my hands on a road bike. Maybe next year. :D

Cheers.

I have a trio of Treks. All are setup for comfort (handlebars even with seat), not performance.

http://www.biostat.wustl.edu/~brad/jpeg/t830.jpg
I bought this Trek 830 in '88, used it for a few years, then my son used it for a few years. I recently pulled it out of storage and had it fixed up. I added Zefal fenders and Bontrager Invert K 26x1.5" tires. The bike has early Deore SIS derailleurs. The frame/fork are Cro-Mo, and there is one cantilever and one U-Brake (under the chainstay). It even has oval chainrings on the Sakae triple-crank. It's now my commuting bike.

http://www.biostat.wustl.edu/~brad/jpeg/t6500.jpg
I had a Giant hybrid for awhile, but then replaced it with this Trek 6500 last year. I think it's a '99 model. I got it on discount.
Aluminum frame, 27-spd Deore, Bontrager crank/post/stem/saddle, Manitou fork. I commuted with it for awhile, but now I just use it for trails. Maybe the best bike I've ever had.

http://www.biostat.wustl.edu/~brad/jpeg/t1000.jpg

Then a few months later I bought a road bike. It has an aluminum frame and fork, with a 24-speed Sora setup, Suntour Superbe crank, and generic hubs and brakes. I had the Bontrager tires replace with Continental 2000 700x25s. I hope to do some light touring, maybe an MS150 ride. So far it's a pretty good bike for weekend rides. I don't like the gearing. With a 52/42/30 crank and 11-28 cluster I find the 52T doesn't get much use for my kind of riding.

djpluv 02-24-03 11:28 AM

2003 Cannondale R600 (stock)
2001 Trek Fuel 90 (so totally not stock)

;-)

propp2531 02-25-03 01:13 PM

2002 Specialized Allez Elite and 2001 Trek 1000 for crappy weather.
