Lance's Coffee?

On the "Chronicles" last night Lance and company gave a million dollar plug to Peets Coffee. I'm kind of a coffee freak (dark roast please) but have never heard of Peets. I belive they are CA based. Anyone know of it...how's it compare? If I drink it will I be as fast as Lance?

I'm pretty fond of peet's. The pseudo-greasyspoon diner down the road from me serves bottomless peet's, so i can get nice and twitchy in the morning.

sweet... another brazilian coffee lover...

peets is good... we get them in bulk at work... it's pretty good... perhaps will taste even better if using a smaller coffee maker instead of the huge one... we just get a lot of great aroma.. but the taste of the coffee is slightly lighter. but other than the stupid coffee maker... peets coffee is pretty good.

Obligatory Bling Bling Trek, Postie gear out the wazoo, publishing deal, sponsors, home in Europe.... I could get really nasty but while I think he's way over exposed and I can't stand "Armstrongites" (read Lance wannabes) I do respect the man and his racing ability.

Why don't you drink coffee you like in your area? Like supporting your local LBS, support your local coffee house. I know Peets doesn't make Lance a better rider. And Lance is not an expert on coffee.

Peet's is a sponsor of the Webcor team. I they also sponsor the Berkeley Bike Club in Berkeley, CA. They sponsored our club for a few years. We still start our club rides at Peet's and hang out there after rides.

Sent off for a catalog once for Peets just for kicks. Lets just say it was more than I can afford. So you gotta' be as rich as Lance to afford it.

I dunno about that. It's not folgers crystals or anything, but I've never found them to be exorbitant, especially at the aforementioned diner : a buck twenty five for all the coffee you can drink sounds about right to me.

Clarification: My point is don't buy coffee just because a celeb drinks it especially if you have to mail order it. Just buy it from your local bean shop whether it be Peets, Tully's , Starbucks ( a local company in my area that also contributes a lot to bike functions) or the Java Jive. Peets has to make up for what they pay Lance, Nikes aren't expensive because they hire quality labor to make them it's because you have to pay for their advertising budget.

We have a Peets here just never been they are on the wrong side of the road on my commute or they would easily become my morning stop.

Ok, I'm not trying to start a flame war here but I'll stand by my previous post as to how high priced this coffee is. https://www.peetscoffee.com
their house blend: $8.95/lb
french roast: $10.95/lb
that makes my 2.5 lb can of Hills Bros. over $20 bucks easily which btw I purchase regularly for $4.69.

You're comparing apples and oranges. That's like complaining that a six-pack of sierra nevada costs more than the equivalent amount of milwaukee's beast out of a keg.

Call me weird but I like the "Star-Burnt" taste.

At anyrate, I remember an interesting interview with Lance from way back in the early 1990s in which he said something to the effect of, "I really don't watch what I eat... it's never been a problem with my performance." Interesting to see how things have changed. The photograph in the interview had him sitting outside a Starbucks sipping a big mocha.

Exactly. I've visited Peets in person and I did a couple mail-orders when I returned home. It's good stuff, but not worth the shipping and handling. We have several good local roasters. I buy my coffee from them.

If you want to be like Lance, work hard and don't waste your time on Internet forums. If you want good coffee, try your local roaster.
