Remove the frame mount adapter before you ship the lock. Kryptonite does not need it back. Then you'll have a spare if your new lock comes with one. If it doesn't you'll still be in business.

It sounds like UPS has mailed you a return label. In my case, I received a second email with a URL for the return label image that I was able to print out to use.

Hey, has anyone else received a second UPS return label notice after you already sent in your lock?

I registered my old NY U Lock pretty early, and got a return tag on 10/26; I returned the lock two days later, and per UPS tracking it got to the processing center in suburban Chiacgo on 11/1.

But yesterday, 11/9, I got a second return label, same email as the first one. I understand there are bound to be logistical errors in a recall this big, but I wonder how widespread this is.

Also, what's people's experience in turnaround time between when the processing center receives your lock and when you get a new one? I'm chewing down my nails having to lock up all day with the crappy Planet Bike cable lock that's my backup.

OK, I finally got UPS labels in email. (two of them actually each with different numbers, even though I registered for one lock, I wonder which to use ?)

Now I need to find a way to print one. I guess a trip to Kinkos - yes this is the first time in 10yrs I've needed to print something - I saved the .gif UPS label to a floppy, hopefully Kinkos can print this. For some reason I thought these would show up in US Post mail. Oh well - at least I am happy I have the labels now.

I got my new Evolution 2000 mini in the mail a couple days ago. It didn't have a mounting bracket (neither the part on the bike or the part on the lock), so if you're using that mount, it's probably a good idea to hold on to it.

yeah, the locks don't come with any kind of mounting bracket. If you have an EZ mount bracket, remove the spline before you send the old lock back in. When the new lock comes, just put the spline back onto the new lock.

News from Kryptonite
LOCK EXCHANGE PROGRAM UPDATE
November 12, 2004

We are happy to report that Kryptonite did begin this program in October and thousands of replacement locks have been sent out to customers in the last few weeks. Kryptonite continues to manufacture and ship new products to consumers on a weekly basis. The whole process of the Lock Exchange Program is a complex one with manufacturing and transportation all coming into play. We are building and air shipping the new locks to get them out to our customers as fast as possible.

For those of you who are still waiting to get your UPS postage paid label, here is an update:

U-locks (bicycle and powersports), Padlocks, Cables and Evolution Disc Locks (New York Chain and New York Noose) – replacement locks are being manufactured at this time and will be shipped to consumers as they become available.
Automobile locks – these locks are being manufactured now and will be shipped in December.
DFS and KryptoDisco – these locks are being re-engineered now and will be available to consumers in January.

If you have a DFS or KryptoDisco and do not want to wait until January to exchange your lock, we will be happy to exchange it now for one of Kryptonite’s “Molly” locks. The photo and description of this lock can be viewed at the below URL. It has a 3” shackle and may work well on some motorcycles. If you want this option, please send your name, shipping address and lock information to Kryptonite@irco.com with the subject “DFS/Molly Lock Exchange” or “KryptoDisco/Molly Lock Exchange”. If not, you are in the system to have your lock replaced in January with the upgraded version of your lock.

As further information becomes available we will post it to our website at www.kryptonite.com and be sending email updates, as needed.

We appreciate your loyalty and patience during this challenging time. Please know that we are working around the clock to get a new lock to everyone who has signed up for the Lock Exchange Program.

Regards,
Team Kryptonite

I returned my KryptoLok - both parts of lock & keys. In return I received the Evolution Disc Lock - this mini lock is nothing like the one I returned. Sent an email to Kryptonite on Thursday and today. No response yet...

A follow up to my post of yesterday where my replacement lock was the wrong one - after looking at my packing slip last night, I realized that the part number on the slip was not the part number sent to me. I was going to wait another day to give them a little more time to respond. Well, the phone just rang and it was a rep from Kryptonite. She agreed that the wrong item had been shipped, and is getting the right one sent right out. Oh, and I can keep the Disc lock. So, I am happy. I had just bought my lock a couple of days before this all started, and I am looking forward to using it.

GOT THE NEW KRYPTOLOCK LAST NIGHT!!!

Took about three weeks since I sent the old lock back using their UPS label.

The old lock was 25 years old, and they STILL exchanged it! I think I have gotten an exceedingly great deal!!!

I thought I would be the LAST person to get a "return label", as I was requesting replacements for just about every model of U-lock lock Kryptonite has made over the past twenty years. So, I was surprised to get a phone call Friday from a nice lady at Kryptonite. She was calling to clarify a couple of things before my labels were e-mailed.

A couple of hours after the phone call, I was e-mailed two "notices" that the shipper (Kryptonite) had requested a return shipment from me and that "a UPS return label has been created and is in transit to the pickup location". (This notice seems to be nothing more than an advance notice that two more e-mails will soon arrive).

A few hours after the first e-mails, two more e-mails arrived. They included a "link" to the UPS website to acquire a UPS return label. Using Microsoft Outlook, that "link" produced an error message from UPS. So, I accessed my e-mail directly, using Firefox instead of Outlook, clicked on the link, and printed out both shipping labels.

One of the return notices referred to a three pound shipment, and one to a twelve pound shipment. I will probably just put all of my locks into one box and use the "twelve pound" label.

I don't know why four long, complicated e-mails were sent when all the was needed was one little mailing label. But, the bottom line is, Kryptonite is slogging through the job of replacing three decades of production, one owner at a time, one lock at a time.

It is refreshing to see ONE company that is willing to spend an enormous amount of money to make sure that every customer is satisfied - no matter how long the process takes.

Got my new lock delivered today, new Evolution mini which was same model as the one I returned. Looks good and locking mechanism will certainly be tougher to crack, the new keys are a bit flimsy but I'm not complaining... just glad I can ride downtown without bringing my bike inside with me everywhere.

Krytonite did this right, good job to everyone. Now let's get together and have Bush impeached.

Got my new EV Disc lock on Monday. I even like the color. The new mechanism had a bit of drag but a quick shot of Teflon Plus cured that.

Hi all,

Newbie here.

I contacted Kryptonite by phone and email on about 9/23/04 when this deal was offered. I explained that I had two of their U locks; a Evolution 2000 and a Kryptolock LS. I was sent a notice from Kryptonite and the UPS link on 11/9/04. I sent them in on 11/15/05 and got BOTH replacement locks today-11/24/04!

I am impressed!

ONE word of advice though. I wish I had checked here before I sent them in since I failed to remove that little aluminum bracket from the shackle thinking that there would be one on the new lock. The replacement lock they sent does NOT have one so I have no way to use my bike mount! I have written then to explain the situation.

In any case, I am still very impressed at the customer service.. This will cost Ingersol Rand a FORTUNE yet they went out and did something about a major problem. Way Cool for a huge company like that.

Good luck to all of you but I am sure that they will eventually take care of everybody.

Doug

I just got mine back yesterday. It took about a week between them sending me the ups email for them to send the lock to me. However, my initial email to them was a little before Halloween! All in all, I appreciate the fact that they sent me a new one. I probably won't ever buy a different brand of lock.

I sent my 2002 Trek-cobrand lock in about a week ago, haven't got one yet, but it looks like the amount of time to get a new one is quite variable...

Do they send mounting brackets with the new locks?

I received 14 pounds of replacement locks recently. Only the New York lock came with a mounting bracket. I don't use mounting brackets, as it easier to throw a lock in a saddlebag, or messenger bag. Most dealers sell mounting kits for people who need one.
