I usually keep mine on my face, but I generally don't ride into the dark of night. I agree with a jersey pocket or some kind of strap.

Depends On Bike
On a road bike with no bags, I simply use my jersey pocket.
If I'm going out on a ride where I know that the lighting conditions will be changing (overcast to sunny or vice versa, or light-to-darkness), I bring a second set (amber or clear in addition to sunglasses) in my jersey pocket and switch when necessary.
I'm not a big fan of hooking them on a shirt collar, as I've had too many pairs fall when doing this hastily over many years. Why risk scratching, damage, or loss?

When off the bike, hooked over a cable housing or hooked in the light loop on the back of my seat pack. When riding they are on my face. I have glasses with transparent lenses for night riding. The spare lenses are wrapped up in a lens cloth in my Camelbak.

I have a pouch that mounts to the top tube and handle bar stem. Got it at Meijer for $10. Holes my phone, keys and/or clip on sunglasses. Only downside is I gotta watch out for "bag tag" when getting on/off, but generally not a problem.

Thanks for the replies -a lot of interesting options. I don't have a jersey and I tried to put it in my helmet but it wouldn't fit. I am going to just hook it on my collar for now, but I'll probably shop around for a bag/pouch soon.
