You need to mount the digital camera on the handlebars if it takes short movies. Then hit the record button on the way down!

I thought I sent this before, but didn't see it show up. Sorry if it's a duplicate post.

Hey PWRD - is that pic looking down the 47 mph side or is the far side of the valley where the big speed happened?

Not necessaryil. Last fall on BRAT I coasted up to 48 mph on one downhill. Not fast enough! So, I pedaled and got up to 50 mph. Was it worth the extra effort? Sure - I got up to 50 mph! It was a lot of extra effort, though; probably not the best use of my energy.

The far hill is where the speed happened.

To all the people in Cincy, I was heading down Ludlow Ave. in Clifton towards I-75. Yes, I stopped pedaling and got as aero as possible and just hung on for dear life! Not really, I was in control the whole way down, and the road there is pretty smooth. I was more concerned about overtaking cars that might pull out of a side road and not expect a cyclist to be roaring down the hill as fast an automobile. The fact that I have a pretty good case of gravity poisoning (I'm no featherweight at 235) helped a lot with the speed too, I think.

I can't believe no one pulled out in front of you! I would have been scared you-know-whatless.

Fun, ain't it? The stretch by Mt. Mitchell especially. Nothing like going twice a federal speed limit on a bike.

Ludlow huh? I was wondering but it's too hard to guess since there are so many hills in this city that one could get to that speed (or close to it). In fact, a friend of mine used to put together a route that we would do once a year called the "Urban Death Ride". He'd string some of the steeper roads in the city together and I have to say he did a good job! We no longer do the route but the one year I did it, I thought these guys were nuts.

It was a blast going that fast wasn't it?

As Galileo proved a long time ago, the mass of an object does not affect how fast gravity pulls it down-->they're all still accelerated at 9.8m/s/s. The only thing would be the frontal surface area, affecting the drag.

But any inherent resistence coming from the bike (wheels) might be better offset with a bigger rider.

Yes, but we can only find out for sure by dropping PWRDbyTRD and a cannonball off the Tower of Pisa.

Wrong. Heavier riders on bikes descend faster than lighter riders. Already discussed before ad nauseam.

I BLAST cryogenic on hills even if I rub my brakes...and I was at one point running 2.1" knobbies, and now 1.5" slicks, both of which I passed him on while he was riding on ritchey speedmax 2.0's and Verdestian? G ribs.... I really doubt my hubs are that much better...he has to pedal to keep up with me...If I get some time I'll record us blastind down a hill.

Mine was a warning... 50MPH in a 35MPH zone. I claimed that braking all the way down the hill would have caused brake failure by the time I hit the bottom. The cop bought it but only after burning the tip of his finger on my rim.

Anything above 40-50 mph or so downhill and it's all weight being dragged down by gravity. Pedaling seems to slow me down.
Yep... when I outspin the 53x12, I just tuck in and concentrate on being aero otherwise I'm just bouncing all over the place. This usually happens around 45-50 MPH.

Cool, I'm wondering how fast my own Red Rocket goes. Is that a cable driven speedo or GPS style. I've been toying with putting my GPS on the handle bars but wondered if the vibration would bugger it.

50MPH is 80 KPH... now that I'd like to do on my bike but I might build up to it.

anyone in berkeley know marin ave? i'm trying to find a picture of it. it's STEEEP. like, my GF's car has a difficult time getting up it. the profile of it is like, steep steep steep, intersection flat, steep steep steep, intersection flat, etc. for about 4500ft (distance) in a straight line. anyone who has that KLIMB software, if you could find out the elevation, that'd be great.
