Hybrid? Urban?

Hi there

okay so i wanna buy a bike. thing is. i cant really decide. my needs : this summer ill be mostly using my bike to go get to one place another. but somtimes id like to go offroad and jump.

now. i was sugested a bike for me and it seems pretty good i guess, its placed in "urban" category, its light weight aluminium with a little suspension in from and one on the seat. now. heres the link

https://www.opusbike.com/pdf/mondano05.pdf

i was talking with a friend about it, and he told me that hybrid (and im guessing urban is part of that category) is the worst bike you can get because 1. you cant go fast because of the way its shaped and your body position and 2. you cant off road because the suspension isnt good enough....

so im lost, what should i get. i had another sugestion to get this one

https://devinci.com/english/coyo.html

wich is more of a mountain bike. but the thing is, i feel that it wont be good for long distance travelling...

so im really lost and i need somone to clear things out

can anybody help?

thanks a bunch

Have you considered a cyclocross bike? it's basically an offroad street bike...no jumping though, it is a rigid frame. As far as other bikes, I can throw up the hardrock by specialized or the rockhopper, both are good bikes, as far as wanting to go fast on the road, my mountain bike gearing gives out in 44/11 93rpm @ 28mph ....so that gives you an idea. If you want to go faster than that you may want to look into custom building a bike with a road crankset...oh geez so many options, I'm going to shut up

WooooWeeeee, mate!!! Does it HAVE to be "new" or just serviceable & depedable??

For my money a good used steel road bike with cyclocross tires is HARD to beat for
all'round toughness and utility. Buy the bike for a song & spend some bucks on really
good rubber, bars, seat, fenders, rack, panniers and you'll be good to go for a
loooooooooooooooong time most anywhere you want to ride.

I dont think being rigid nessesarily disqualifies it from jumping. perhaps not the extreame stuff alot of guys do now ,but back in the day i put alot of air between me and the ground on rigid bikes.

.....back in the day,now I feel old!...........

I don't know if I would want to do much jumping on a cyclocross bike. They are tough as hell, but it wouldn't take a huge drop to fold most of their wheels in half.

I mostly was refering to this statment more then the cyclocross bike. makes it sound like you need suspension to go off road

and the 2 bikes shown by th OP are very differant style bikes.
other facters to consider:is he 98lbs or 250, bunnyhops or 4 foot of air,etc...

A Specialized Hardrock. Put some slick tires on it, and maybe a longer stem and more comfy seat, and it'll do alright on the road, but still work for mountain riding or jumping.

Totally agree with this comment..esp if you get the pro disc....the MZ comp is a decent OEM fork IMO, unless you're a serious rider.
