Here's the post my friend put up on the CAMBr forum. We must've ridden this section within an hour or two of him posting this up.
Yo, tonight I rode home via the FRT to check the trail after the storms.
At the intersection of the FRT and the IPP in Elgin, if you continue south on the FRT you have to cross a bridge (that is also under a train trestle).
The bridge is very dangerous to cross as the creek has scoured away much of the supporting stuff under the path. You can see in the pics that about 1/2 of the trail is gone where the path meets the wooden bridge.
I positioned myself to get a picture of what is under the remaining path and the ground gave way and sent me 4 feet down the embankment. My feet were about an inch away from the fast flowing water. Luckily nothing (especially me) fell in the water.
You can see from the second pic that much of the supporting rock has been washed away from under the remaining path, making it VERY dangerous.
Please be careful if you find yourself out this way.

Broke out the neglected touring bike and put in a 51 miler today. Had perfect weather, sunny, 70+ degrees, calm winds. Who could ask for better!?!?

4.5 miles with the wife and kids on the MUP, then home by myself for 17 miles at 20.8 mph. There must have been something in the air today. I can count on 2 hands the number of cyclists I have seen this summer during the 1200 miles of crusing I've done. Today however, I passed no less than 15, 2 singles, 2 'bents taking a rest at the courthouse, and a group of 10-15 crossing at a light. I know that's no big deal to most of you guys but where I'm from you just don't see people on bikes. My neck is sore from bobbing my head up and down.

I, like most, have been over that bridge about 1,000 times. Wicked. Guess I'm not commuting anytime soon...that bridge is on my route...

Rode up to a local sawmill to check on material for a chicken house. They where not home, looks
like they don't have their electric back on yet!
About 1.5 miles. ( I know its not much, but just a week ago it was nothing)

Rode to Minooka and back before work
9/18 - 13.2 miles
Mainly in town.
Will be in Morton, IL for a couple days. Planning on riding the trail towards Peoria. Not sure about the flooding there especially in East Peoria / Peoria area.

9/19....... 27 miles.....I have been having some serious knee issues lately. Today I dropped the saddle a bit and it made a huge differance. Very little knee pain. I am hoping a few days off the road bike will allow the knee to totally heal......
