More Crashes?
OK, This will only be about my 10'th crash this winter. Recursive should be proud. This one was enough fun I took a picture.
Fresh snow hiding glare ice, at night, makes for interesting riding ... even with Nokians.
Hope you enjoy, and I fell twice on that ride. Chewed up my shin and a little banged but the collarbones are fine.

There but for the grace of my Kenda Klondikes go I. I could have taken that photo about four times last year. This year I'm more practiced/careful and on a better bike with better tires, so nothing specatacular to report yet. I did have my second 'failure to unclip tip' of the winter yesterday. My winter shoes are stickier.

John, that's really funny cause that's exactly what i think about when I not sure of my footing ... pedal smooth. Unfortunately, the rest of the time my ice bike power grips do not hold my apres ski sneakers tightly enough to pull up as they are sized for my winter boots and it's a pain to resize, so I end up mashing and losing anything I might have gained.

Besides....It's only a 1/2 hr.

Ara's got those at the shop. They're great tires, but the studs are fairly short and blunt. I could see why they'd be great on ice, but not necessarily snow-covered ice. Seems that once the snow was, maybe, half an inch thick, the studs probably wouldn't even be getting down to grip the ice. Cool tires, though.

Guys, I have a torn meniscus in my right knee and can't run. I'm not afraid of falling (obviously), I just can't run!
MJH2, yea, you trade off much lower drag but fewer bigger studs. Mine are great for commuting in so so weather, not ideal for glare ice. They are fine for lakes and smooth ice, the problem is crowned ice or ice ruts where your tire wants to slide. There aren't enough studs far enough out on the tire to grab well and ... then ... boom goes the dynamite.

Psi, if I run like a girl (slowly with little leg thrust or push), I can run, but I can't try to go fast at all or it hurts. I tried tennis for about 3 hours over the summer and it hurt and you could see the power drop off on my right leg afterward. I'm trying to lay off it till spring and then I'll gingerly try running again.
LOL Kimber.
You would have run me over and kept going psycho.

I took a spill while on duty today while walking downhill on an icy sidewalk. Tried to get up but slipped again right away and had to crawl on hands and knees to the grass to get firm footing. I looked back at the snow where I slipped and it looked similar to your post, except a lot bigger, since I actually skidded downhill a little. I keep checking youtube for keywords "Fat" "Cop" "Falls" but so far I seem to have dodged a bullet, apparently nobody nearby had the ever present video camera rolling.
