I think I need to learn to sit in more and let other people chase stuff down. I averaged 269 watts yesterday. I just had terrible position caused by the squeeze in turn 3.

PS Tom, can you post more of those data features in the future? I know your intentions are good, but that just reads funny! |
NE1 want to carry a cam on Wednesday, er Tuesday and also Wednesday?
(I've got 2 computers crunching pix right now, gonna cut the grass, uploading later) |
I'm always down for a camera.
|
Cool. I'll hook you up in the Fondy RR. Pradun or Recursive for Fondy crit? If anyone knows someone who's down for carrying it at Downer for the Pro 1/2, lemme know. Loberg?
|
I'll carry for Tues or Weds in 4/5s. I'll check with the guys that we are hosting for Downer that race P12 for Webcor.
|
Okay. Let's do the 4/5's in the Fondy crit then also someone in the 3's. Good test for trying two races in one day. Webcor? :thumb: Lemme know, no hurry. Do you always warm up on your trainer before crits? I'll look for 'ya.
|
I'll pretty much always carry the camera. Except maybe in a time trial. The excitement would be too much.
|
I'm up for carrying the camera on any non-hilly course. How did the other one turn out?

I've seen the Bluemound's video - awesome. The rest I've saved, but haven't seen yet. The tricky part is that I'm pushing the limits of the firmware in that camera beyond what factory says can be done. They state 56 mins is max, but I'm getting 1hr 56 mins but only if I 'fix' the file when I download it. It takes the computer about an hour to fix the file ... 'puter time that I'm using right now to do stills (they pay the bills ;) Well, kind of. ) I'll get to them when one of my 'puters is idle.

Okay, gotta get to bed, but ...
I posted the video from Waterloo on Peloton-pix, edited to show the two crashes in the 3's race. It doesn't show a lot, but it's something. |
Thanks for the post. You have a lot of patience to pick those crashes out of all that footage, especially the first one.

This time with HR, but other than that a thoroughly uninteresting race. Still fun though. Man that race hurt. I was able to open up a sprint and my powertap says my peak watts were 1653 for 12seconds at 41mph. Keep in mind that was a head wind slight up hill sprint. |
Wow. I guess I still have some work to do.
|
Recovering from today's road race. HOT HOT HOT in Fondy. 93 degrees heat index of 100. I felt like I was in a frying pan.
Anyways, decent race. Not as challenging as I thought it would be. No big hills to break things apart. Several short lived attacks, but as always in the 4/5s, everyone chases. Which actually wasn't all that bad today. Sat in and didn't do a lick of work. Things started to pick up before the last corner, but I found a great line up to 10th wheel to the corner and began working the sprint shortly thereafter. Had a beautiful opening all the way to the front and gaining ground up to 5th wheel HOT... then the door closed - 4th wheel saw the same line that I was charging up and came over, pushing me into the gravel shoulder. Didn't want to sprint through the gravel and loose it (need to work the 'cross skills) and came back on at the back of what was left of the field for 16th. People must have been dropping like flies because I thought there were a lot more in our field. From warmup to race and post race, drank 6.5 bottles plus a half gallon over my head and legs post race. Did I mention it was HOT? |
Props on your results, Pradun looked good. The official temp was 95F in Fondulac.
It was a nice day, just hot. The corn will be crackling tonight! Thanks also to Funkin from hauling the camera. Lots of BF members up there today. Props to all for just racing!! :) I also have some obligatory tractor shots, will get to them later (LOL): http://peloton-pix.smugmug.com/photo...10_5yDP7-M.jpg http://peloton-pix.smugmug.com/photo...92_aJbpv-L.jpg http://peloton-pix.smugmug.com/photo...06_CtxWw-L.jpg |
(I'm gonna have to make that watermark a little more transparent)

Frunkin on the 5-o-clock news. Whoda thunk?
Hippie kids with thier long hair...... Nice job today gents. Took me a long time (several hours) to have a "natural break" despite the copius amounts of fluids consumed post race. |
What station? Perhaps it's online?

Here it tis....

Damn, those pics get me all excited to come up and get smoked on Thursday. Although, I am built for the flat, 4 corner crit...
Have any of you signed up on the day of the race? Is it true they're going to hit me with a $10 late fee? $80 for two crits seems a little nasty from you purportedly kind folks in cheese land. |
Yup 40 bucks day of - gotta front for the payouts for the big boys
|
I get that. But I can gaurantee $40 is keeping some folks who are not doing the entire series from doing 1 or 2 races.
Whatever. I'll still be there for my punishment. |
Just a lurker thanks to y'all for the stories and pics. Not a racer. Never was. Never will be. Just someone who rides and respects and enjoys those that can ride fast.
But, John, that tractor picture is really neat. You've had some good ones, but that one seems to say quite a bit. Out of curiousity, were riders upset about having to pass farm equipment or do they take it in stride? |
This was the 2nd hardest race of my life. I was the only one in the field to get into a 60mi breakaway. After getting caught and another break of 4 instantly forming (unfortunately, with the leader), I made another break.
Had 2 of us, then 3 of us, then 4 of us, then a rider from the lead group get dropped and join us, so 5 of us. I won the sprint for 4th place fairly easily. Well, not easy with the heat, but without difficulty. I'll update my blog in about 30min. (first hardest day was an 80mi breakaway in 85 degree heat at regionals) |
Pix are all up. 10 - 15 years ago they used to have road races in this area, but the farmers raised hell because of loosing control of the roads. A friend was talking to one of the sheriffs manning a corner, and he said that they really expected some trouble - but there was none. In that tractor themed series, I just walked 10 rows into the corn field, and the guy driving the tractor gave me a dirty look, but I didn't step on a single plant. Really!
Back to Fond du Lac today for some sticky tar crit racing. :) |
... and why does everyone say that racing is so hard??
