Nice pics. I guess if I wanted photos of me, I would have needed to stay in the race longer.

Edit: Watch for my victory today.

That's awesome!

Greetings from downtown Fond du Lac. It's 87 deg right now, parking is impossible however, I am only 2 blocks from the course, and I have to find Speedy22 somewhere to hook up the bike cam. We are right downtown, big city feel. The announcing should be echoing off the buildings tonight! Nice internet connection right in the car where it should be shaded this afternoon.

Will update later.

:)

Topping off the charge on the video batteries after Speedster22 carried it to a 15th place in the Cat. 4/5 which was won by a local guy. Approx. 30 - 35 riders in the Masters 4/5 which is going on now. Good sized, lunch time crowd enjohying the races. Course is a 0.6 mile rectangle, right down town with a wide back straight and very narrow front straight. You have to be in top 5 at least going through turn 3 to have any shot at the line. Just no room to move after the final bend.

Recursive to carry cam in 3's race, and I have a Webcor rider aligned to carry it in the Pro 1/2 at Downer Ave. In fact, it's the guy who won yesterday!

Sweet! How many in the regular 4/5's? I'm hoping to not have to get there too early tomorrow.

If I show, that is. I'm very concerned about the 26 feet of climbing per lap, given that I had pork tacos for lunch.

Speedster22 06-24-09 04:57 PM

There was right around 30 today in the open 4/5s. Lots of attacks and a break stuck at about 10 to go. Short and fast course.

Finished 14th officially today and moved up to 19 overall. Teammate took 2nd in the break today and remains 2nd overall. Now I only need a few more points to hit 15 overall and I'll be happy.

recursive 06-24-09 06:40 PM

I continued to suck most epicly today. If I do enough races, I'll probably get one with a decent finish.

John Wilke 06-24-09 08:25 PM

Well, it's supposed to be a cool 81F tomorrow, so bring a jacket. Today was humid as well as fairly hot, tough on everyone. I was talking with Recursive today and mentioned that there may be air quality issues tomorrow along the lake, so try to incorporate that into your stories of poor results.

Hey, if you finish up your race and still have energy, head east to the lake, it's only 7 blocks away and there is a cool beach there, an old ship wreck that you can walk through at the harbor, and if the wind is right, that beach right there is a hot bed for Lake Michigan surfing. Really! It is a really neat place, very picturesque and a great place to kill some time.

Interesting read in Tilford's blog: "Racing The Tour of the America’s Dairyland Race this past weekend was so refreshing. " Big rave about riding in packs - pretty interesting: http://stevetilford.com/2009/06/24/t...dling-pushing/

Frunkin 06-24-09 08:59 PM

Thank god it's cooling down. The past two days have been rough on me.

dave342 06-25-09 05:01 AM

Raced 4/5 masters on Tuesday and Wednesday since the races were close. Finished 18th on Tuesday in the road race. Was third or fourth wheel 2 miles from the finish cramped up and watched them pull away. Hard day and HOT. I'm pretty sure I pre rode w/porkchopwi he had a camera on his handlebars.

Finished 12th on Wednesday in the four corner crit.

Great pics John Wilke keep it going!!!

MJH2 06-25-09 05:42 AM

Me and a carloaf of mediocre are headed north. Be warned people.

recursive 06-25-09 08:15 AM

I'm bringing a whole vanloaf.

Check out this comparison. Two essentially identical courses. Only difference was temperature. Ouch.

JPradun 06-25-09 08:23 AM

Manitowoc was nice..only in the mid 70s there.

FdL was hard after yesterday's race. But, I managed to move to within 4 points of 2nd place overall.

Bah! Eat some peaches. :)

Greetings from Sheboygan, WI. It's 82 deg F, just a bit humid with a very slight breeze coming off Lake Michigan which is 1/2 mile to the east. Bike cam batteries are just coming up to charge, so I'm going to find MJH2 and hook him up. Darker clouds to the west. Nothing threatening, but we may see some drops of rain. While I don't think many like riding in the rain, most won't complain after what we've had to suffer through this week. Will check in again later. :D

MJH2 06-25-09 01:15 PM

Speedster22, this would be the appropriate place to thank me for the leadout!

;)

Speedster22 06-25-09 04:48 PM

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Awesome job! I saw you going up the inside on the backstretch and you were looking strong early on and knew I had to jump on! Meant to find ya while rolling around to thank you in person, but couldn't locate ya in my oxygen depleted state for the next ten minutes lol. Nice attackin' again!

Were you the first guy to rocket past me? I only know that Wilke said you won the field sprint. Second overall, right? Good work!

I haven't been able to close a race yet this year, so I went back to the tactic that got me my best results as a 5: Jump hard and early. Even though it didn't work out as I had hoped (that finish line was waaaaaaaaaay too far past the last turn ;)), it did net me my best finish of the year. I could have probably pulled a little harder/stronger if I hadn't been sucked into the first preme, either.

At the finish (seeing red, mind you) I thought that 6 guys eventually got by me. They had me scored at 10th. I'll take it.

Speedster22 06-25-09 07:24 PM

Yea, jumped off your wheel after turn 4, out of the saddle and three gear shifts. Felt the GC leader coming up on my inside, but apparently I still held him at bay by a bike length. That was also my best finish of the season, so many thanks! Yea, 2nd overall - but thought I had won it as I didn't know anyone else was up the road! We caught the 3 of the 4 that were in the break, but the 4th said he knew the catch was coming as they were slowing down so he attacked and stayed away - which he has been trying alllllllllll week, over and over again.

You racing any more of the series?

No more of the series for me. The only reason I got to do that one is because today is the first day of "vacation" and Sheboygan was on the way (not really, but on the way enough) to my ultimate destination in Northern Wisconsin.

My next race will be both the 4/5's and the Masters 4/5 at the Elgin superweeks race.

You happen to have any stats on that race? I don't have a computer. I didn't feel overly fast, but that might have just been because of the open/wide turns.

John Wilke 06-25-09 08:03 PM

I got your bike throw Speedy. Gimme a few mins ...

No Elgin for me... I'll be doing Evanston and most of the WI Crits for Superweek. My Ptap died at the Manitowoc crit so no data. Need to get that puppy taken care of though - I'm a data junky.

Ah, Evanston. I may be there. Did it last year. Not sure how "lucky" I'm feeling yet, though!

Wilke, how did the real race pan out? Your web page always has the quickest updates on the series!

If it's the hub batteries I've got some. Brought some just in case. I'd be glad to give you a couple.

Tried that already, but no dice. Hub icon won't light up in the up left corner of the head unit.... me frustrated!

Bummer, did you try relearning the hub id? thats the only other thing I could think of that you could do yourself without having to send it in to saris.

Nice work today by the way.

John Wilke 06-25-09 08:50 PM

The Pro race was *AWESOME* ! Working on the pix right now. The question: should I post the pic of the racer pi**ing on the back stretch while in the pack? :p

I'll have my report up soon.

I'll try that to be sure, but it's wired so should still be good to go....I think. Ah I'll give it a whirl tomorrow, I'm absolutely beat.

And thanks!

Still overhydrated from yesterday? LOL

Can't wait for the pics!
