This is the tape(Zukka), the pic doesn't do it justice..the color is bright and picks up the yellow-green in the decals.

Yeah I thought so. Looks great. Thanks for the link.

Was not enjoying my Multitrack with drop bars as much as I anticipated, after 5 months and about 1500 miles so this weekend put a flat bar back on it. I just bought an old touring bike that rides much better with drop bars, best of both worlds I guess.

Thanks, katsup. As it turns out, I went and bought an old Giant steel mtb. as there are no Multitracks around. It needs a bit of work (read "more than it's actually worth"), but it rides nice and it'll be a good learning experience.

Depending on where you ride, the steel Giant frame may not be a bad choice. My 1995 MultiTrack 700 with 19" frame was stolen from within my West End Atlanta home in July 2013. After over two years of constant searching for another 19" steel MultiTrack, but to no avail, I found a 1993 18" chromoly Giant Rincon for $20 from a craigslist seller who was cleaning out a garage. The fit of the frame to my body is nearly identical to the MultiTrack, as well as the feel of the bike underneath me, especially on downhill stretches. I replaced the 26 x 1.95 tires with Kenda Kwest 26 x 1.25 100psi tires. After new shifter cables and housings, new brake pads, and a complete tune-up and lubrication, it rode like a new bike. My new neighborhood had a lot more steep hills than my former, and the 26" wheels and mountain bike gearing were actually better suited for getting around.

I still want my MultiTrack back though!

Korina 05-13-19 11:37 PM

ja1124, that's awful! Humans suck sometimes. As it happens, my Giant is also a Rincon, a woman's frame. Poor thing's still sitting in the garage, as I met and fell in love with Pretty Purple Princess Penelope, a 1992 Specialized Rockhopper Sport. Pretty much everything was original, including the grease, so I took her to a local mechanic and had her built up into a cruiser/ride-all-day bike with north road bars and big supple tires. I do intend to fix up the Rincon, keeping it as an off-road bike.

I have to say, I'm loving my steel 26" wheeled bike. Best ride I've ever had; 1.9" tires, and she's so nimble yet rides like she's on rails.

Weird thing; once I started looking, I discovered that there are Multitracks and Singletracks and other old steel mountain bikes everywhere here. Unfortunately they all seem to belong to homeless people, so they're unlikely to end up on CL.

I hope you find another Multitrack.

The 1995 Trek 730 that I built up for my wife is finally roadworthy—though the front derailleur doesn't like the crank or vice versa (what to do!) She wanted a plum/cranberry colored bike, so I repainted it—and once the decals were off... well it felt more fun to dress it up as a 1950s Viking. I guess we're not concerned with the bike's integrity. I love that this bike's frame was built here in Wisconsin, I think the construction is nicer than my non-USA built Trek 730 frame from '92. I presented it to her this afternoon and she loves it, which means she'll ride with me more often, and so I think it was a success.

Hi, are you sure this is a 1995 with low rider bosses on the fork?

Mogens 05-21-19 05:01 PM

I was just going by color. It was originally forest green.

hokiefyd 05-21-19 05:58 PM

Mid-1990s is probably right. It's tig-welded, so it's later than about 1993-1994. My 1997 MultiTrack 750 has the rack mounts on the fork, so they had them well into the 1990s.

I completed my build and it was promptly stolen. Still looking to recover it in the MN area but I’m proud of it enough to post here:https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ac9b66b23.jpeg
Only complete pic I have with Brooks saddle and spacers added.

Build basically complete, just needed to trim wires and add spacers

hokiefyd 06-01-19 06:36 PM

Great bike build, and I'm sorry it was stolen. Good luck with the search.

SD70 06-02-19 11:26 AM

Awesome looking build. Hope you find it!

Aw, man, that sucks rocks! Gorgeous bike, I hope it turns up. Remember to check CraigsList in nearby areas too.

sucks about your bike, frogger. hope it gets returned. looks good in the snow with those tires.

my 1992 21" 700 ...

sorry about the iso, but i'm never gonna remember to take a pic outside in proper lighting. could use fenders (my pants would appreciate it) and a rack or basket. i added the lights and lock after purchase. cannot believe that headlight is still in place, even though i got the bike only a month ago. spends lots of time downtown and would think those instantly disappear. the speedometer is set to km but i don't know how to change it and don't think to look at when riding anyway. trying to figure out where i am requires all my attention. i've thought about getting one of those cellphone holders. that doesn't seem safe and i don't think my cellphone screen will stay on unless i have apple maps in car mode, which tries to take me on the highway. instead i try to memorize my route and then ride around lost yet happy.

I found a killer deal on a 1996 730 for my wife last night. It looked a lot worse when I picked it up than it actually was. No real issues once I got it back together and cleaned up. I had to pitch a horrible seat and throw an extra one I had on it. New set of tires are on the way and it will be good to go! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...be227fd0a0.jpg

If your wife doesn't want it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands! :D

Here is my 2002 7500. Just finished hosing it down after a ride. Found it on Craigslist about 4 years ago. It was in great condition and just needed some minor shifter work. Replaced the bottom bracket last year. Just put some Ergon grips on it. Other than that, it is pretty much stock. I'll probably be replacing the saddle soon. Nice light nimble feeling bike. The color is Blue Slate Pearl. I did some research but have only come across one other in this great color.

That's a beautiful bike. I love blue. Trek had some really classy colors in the past. I'm not fond of their current color portfolio.

Thanks! It really is a beautiful paint color. Not only is it a great hue of blue, but the metallic pearlescent nature of the paint causes it to sparkle a bunch of different colors, kind of like an opal. The photo does the paint no justice.

My return to the club...

I am pleased to announce that after a six-year search, I have found a replacement for my stolen 1995 Multitrack 700. Based on the color scheme, I believe it is a 1991 model 720.

I have fewer than 10 posts to the forum so I am prohibited from uploading images. :(

Teamwork make the dream work!

It's purple with white on silver and conch decals.
