Wheels
I am thinking about buying the Giant Roam for my firest bike in 16+ years. It was a hard choice between this and the talon 29er but I think the roam will suffice until skill grows and I need or want a more specific type of bike. Now to the question. I will be riding alot of street and a little dirt/trail. I am lazy and do not want to have to change tires on wheels when going campong or trail riding so I want a spare set of wheels with tires for the street. What do I need wheels to fit and I suppose I need a new cassette and disks? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Looks like you are going to want 29er wheels since the bike has disk brakes and 700c wheels. You don't say what you want to use for road tires. You should be able to find something in the 28 - 32 mm width range that will fit the rims and roll well on the street. It might be possible to switch the disks and cassette when you switch wheels but buying new ones for the new wheels will eliminate that considerable tedium. I don't know about disks, cassettes are not a major expense and if you like a narrower range cassette for road use you can get that too while you are at it. I got a new set of Handspun wheels from QBP through my LBS last year and I am happy with them. They make some excellent medium priced wheels and some very fancy/expensive ones too. You can see their 29er wheels here. I just wanted wider rims so I could run fairly wide tires. My Fuji came with 14 mm rims which aren't the best for 38 mm tires. I kept the old rims though and I plan to swap them back on when I want to run 28 mm tires. My bike has rim brakes so no new disks for me. I still have to get a new cassette though. Swapping the cassette between wheels is well within the skill level of most owners, it just gets tedious as I say.

You don't need two sets of wheels unless you plan to use the bike for very hardcore MTBing in real mud. Just fit good quality backroad touring tyres like Marathon Duremes. Or Marathon Extremes will give you quite a bit of mud capability and are still fairly good road tyres. (Dual purpose tyres that work really well are new and it's a relief that they are here.)
Otherwise you need 700C rim disc brake wheels. You'll also have to specify a rim width, this will depend on the tyres you want to use. Other stuff like ideal spoke count and pattern will depend on your weight and how you intend to use the rims - will they be for road or offroad? Will you be riding fast and taking jumps and drops offroad?

road that very bike, and with the forks locked out it is fast on the road, You would probably only want a more aggressive
tire if you found yourself doing a lot of hard trail rides. There are so many tire options out there that will fit those rims.
And with the quick release wheels that come on it, all you need are two tire levers, and a pump and 20 minutes and
you can change them to just about anything, that is a lot of bike for the price, and rides ( awesome ), good choice.
I was going to buy one about 4 months ago, but they only had a XL in stock, and I ride a large, almost bought the XL
because I liked it so much, but qsmdc15 talked me out of it because it was to big for me, it was going to take them
till now, almost 4 months to get a large. So I ended up with a Giant Rincon in a large, it really is a MTB with 26"
wheels, but the Roam 1 is a true Hybrid. Richard

I did not catch the part where you said that your to lazy to change the tires. I'm going to take into
account you have not rode in 16 years, but with Quick release, disk brakes, I was being very conservative
on how long it takes to change tires, can be done faster, just like changing a flat, and you would be at the
house with most likely an electric pump. I would rather change a tire than patch a tube, takes longer, ( LOL )
But the ones that come on it will probably fit your riding style from what you described, I may not have
bought the bike, but did go out and get a set of those Kendra Kwicks....Richard

Here is the bike he is thinking of buying. And a link to the specs, my LBS is selling it for 579.00 dollars.
