pdf for cannondale bad boy sizing chart?

hi all,

thanks for all the great info in the forum here.

a couple weeks ago i came across (what i thought was) a link to a cannondale sizing chart here that i could use to determine if the bad boy ultra im planning to buy is the right size for me. i recall the chart containing various measurements for every frame size and possibly inseam recommendations for each size.

the sticker has been removed from the bike so i dont know if its a M, L or XL so i need to measure that too. my inseam is about 34" btw. thanks!

maybe i should revise the thread title. im measuring the frame at 17" from crank to the top of the top tube. im wondering what "size" this is.

edit: thanks jsdavis! i hadnt seen your response before i posted.

edit2: looks like the seat tube (4) is a bit over 18" which would make this frame a medium, which is probably too small for me.

34" inseam...are you 6'1" or above? If so the XL is the size you want. I have the same inseam and am 6'3" and picked up a BB back in March...the XL is a perfect fit. Prior to my going in to order the bike I was initially stuck on he idea that L was my size (I hate being overly stretched out)

Cannondale bad boy sizing,L or XL, query about frame geometry.

Hello

I am planning to purchase a Cannondale Bad Boy 700 SLX Headshock 2011 model. I was also wondering about sizing, I'm 6ft 1" and my inner leg measurement is around 34" so i have been advised to buy an XL model however im wondering whether i'd prefer a L, I like the aggressive looks of the model in question but I'm slightly worried that when the bike arrives it will look rather different from the pictures posted all over the internet due to the XL size changing the frame geometry slightly. As my hight is borderline between the L and the XL id rather have a L with the seat post slightly raised than receive a bike which is not aesthetically pleasing to me, can anyone post pics of their XL and L models for me so that i can have a proper look, I don't want to shell out my hard earned cash on something Im not !00% happy with.

Thanks,

Alex

Measure from the center of the crank, if 17" it is a small frame, if 18.5" it is a medium, and 20" is large.

Check this post for pics of the large. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...le-Bad-Boy-UAB

Can you ride either of these bikes? if not I recommend the large, I'm 5'9" with a 32 inseam and my large Bad Boy is a bit big, only found this out when I bought a 2011 Bad Boy 3 yesterday. When I ride them back to back I feel a little spread out on the large.

Thanks for your reply, basically my mate works in a bike shop and has ordered in the bad boy ultra XL for me, the whole thing has been a bit of a nightmare because Cannondale put a much cheaper chain-set and crank on it, and supplied it with the 2012 combined bar/stem unit which i don't really like, after a while we managed to get them to agree to supply the deore crank set which comes on the 2012 bad boy ultra and the bike shop are going to find an alternative bar and stem for me, I'm reluctant to complicate things further by telling them i need a L instead as they have got rid of all their 2011 stock now. I will go and try the XL on monday and try to compare it to whatever other Cannondales they have in a L. I just wanted to see what the Bad boy Ultra looks like in an XL as i know they always picture the smaller models for aesthetic reasons.

That is the only that about the Bad Boy is the less than stellar component set Cannondale installs.

You should try that bar stem combo first, I agree it wouldn't be my first choice but if it is the correct size for you you'll have a cleaner looking handlebar.

Post pics when you get it

Again, I'm 6'3" 34" inseam..fits "perfectly". Size XL.

Another thing to consider if you go with the Large is the Horzontal top tube length, I know I woudnt want it any snugger. I'm rather fussy with the fit of all my bikes and initially was disheartened when the BB came with the stem-bar combo but in practice it has proven right on the mark. I personally have no want to adjust anything.

You are right somewhat about the component set on Cannondales and the Bad Boy more specifically, but in practice for me, quite honestly everything works as it is intended to do. I was jonesing to upgrade the crank (perhaps SLX at the least XT prefered), it's been a while since I've had a sqared tapered crank on any of my "serious" bikes but decided to just live with it for a spell and honestly it just works. The only bug for me are the stock brakes, they are the entry level shimano hydros and for my tastes have way too much travel in the lever before biting, but they do perform great, just too much travel. I suppose they need bleeding (they use mineral oil) but the kit is rather stupidly over priced IMO and I have procrastinated.

Obvious changes for me are to dump the Octopus pedals, replaced by Xpedo Curves and I've installed my fav' saddle, the WTB Silverado. That stock Fizik is cool lookin' but narrow and hard enough to make me think about it too much. I've also put chunkier grips on (ODI lockons).

As for the drivetrain, I've been waiting for it to just give me a reason...and it hasnt. Considering the role and market placement for the Bad Boy having MTB bling on it might be a tad over the top, although a good looking bike it is meant to be city-stealth and the stock components strike me as task focused workhorses.

If you dont have to chain the bike up outside within eyeshot of bike thieves then it'll look sweet with some SLX's..XT is perhaps above it's social station..lol.

I love the bike tho, it's just perfect for the role I use it for...perfect. I'm also in as aggressive a stance as I want, that fine balance to still allow me to ride for as many hours as I care to but still be able to get hunched and in attack stance.

Try it stock is my advice and mod as you feel you must. Live with the components to know the reason why and what to replace.

Hey, I did end up buying the Large in the end.

Im not going to go crazy with replacing parts straight away, replaced the seat and post, and that handlebar stem unit has to go. Do you know what stem length is supposed to come stock on a 2011 bad boy ultra, I'm pretty sure it comes stock with a 120 mm stem but it would be nice if someone who owns one could clarify that for me. The Large is quite a good fit for me but the 100 mm length of the all in one unit feels a little bit upright and stubby for me.

I can share my experience with Bad Boy.
I'm just under 6'...5'11.5" to be honest.

I did not have a size choice since it was craiglist purchase and it was "any color as long as it is black" and size M.
I wanted aggressive position as a road bike and M worked just fine for me with some adjustments - 130 mm stem and 400 mm seatpost.

This is how it looks like:

....
I love mine too. There is something fantastic about the geometry. I just wish they had kept the devil graffics the earlier ones had.
