Trek 7.1 review and comments.
So I received my Trek 7.1 last night about this time. So I've had it a little over 24 hours and this is my first impression review.
I rode it 31 miles today.

I do 100% road riding with it, but the road around here has alot of loose gravel due to coal trucks, alot of potholes, and alot of uneven and sometimes broken pavement. Also very hilly and mountainous For this reason I may should have went with 7.2 with its suspension and puncture resistant tires.
That said...
The 7.1 fx (so far) is awesome. Loved the ride overall. The gears are geared fairly high which is plus in my book. Smooth shifting. No problems there.
Really the only thing that I haven't dug about the bike itself is the seat. I was pretty uncomfortable on the last half of the 31 mile trip but no lasting soreness. Also my wrists began aching near the end of the trip but I'm hoping that bar ends will fix that and I don't see that as a fault of the bike itself.
I'm very happy with my purchase and would gladly do so again.
Equipped a bontrager rack, nashbar paniers that I got for $15.00, a frame bag, and handlebar bag, waterbottle and holder.

Hey Ricky!
Don't worry about switching seats. That's one of the first casualties of the upgrade, in most cases..

PS.
Sometimes, it's not the seat!..Some people just have real hard butts!

It may just be me, but your seat looks a tad nose up. You may want to adjust before replacement. It is hard to judge seat comfort without a few hundred miles on it, at least for me.

Thanks everyone. It is my first non department store bike. Honestly at first when people said "real" bikes ride head and shoulders above dept. store bikes I didn't really see how the components could be that much better. Now I'm a believer.
I'll take a look at that seat to double check.

I went to several bike stores yesterday. Mostly road bikes and mtb with not much between. But I did see the Trek FX series. They are very nice bikes. I have a 2003 Trek road bike that I'm very happy with. What I really want is the Portland, but alas, it exists no more. I think you'll be very happy with that bike. All you need are fenders and you're set for winter. I like all the additions :-)

I have a 2007 Trek 7.3fx with disc brakes and my girlfriend rides a 2009 Trek 7.2fx. We both love them! It's probably one of the most versatile bicycles available.
I've swapped the flat bars for dropped and the added hand positions make for a much more comfortable 26-mile round-trip commute.
That's a nice frame bag you got...Where'd you find that? What's the brand?
