Yep..i was able to fit a 2.1" rear tire on my DS 8.4. I was not used to the traction compared to my 29-3's I had and made my front tire lift on a steep climb...you can figure out the rest...

yep, you needed more weight forward. it's tricky to manage that vs. being further back for more traction especially when standing. if you can stay seated (depends on power & gearing) usually you can lean forward and still have all the traction you need.

btw I have that same rear tire, bonty 29-3 rear, but the front wouldn't fit on my bike.

Where did you get 29x3 tires from and how did you manage to fit those?

There are 2 versions of 29-3's. a 2.25 version which i used in the front with the stock rims and a 2.0 version which i used in the rear with the stock rims. On this ride, i used the Maxxis Crossmarks which are 2.1 in the rear.
*You can fit any 29" tire up to a 2.3" width up front.
**You can safely fit a 2.0" width tire in the rear and "some" 2.1" tires in the rear.
