Best Bang for Bucks! - Advice please!
Hey everyone,
So i`m looking to buy a new hybrid bike I want to spend anywhere between 700-900$. I will be honest and say i'm really no pro at parts I have general knowledge. I am deffenitly looking for as much carbon as I can get and disc breaks now hydraulic or mechanic? not sure...
Anyways my real question I guess is what do you suggest!? Whats the best Hybrid I can get for say 800$? I'm really looking forward to see what your suggestions are!

Where will you ride, urban, suburban, parks, unpaved road?
Are you looking for a mens, womens, or unisex model?
Is it hilly or flat where you will do most of your riding?
What do you currently ride?

Dont know how much carbon you can find under 1k. But I recently bought a 7.2fx disc and love it, definitely give it a look at the specs. 7.3fx disc too, I think you'll like them!

Where: All of the above I live right in front of a National Capital Region's Conservation Park Its filled with on road so cycle paths and a lot of off road trails. I don't do that much urban but some.
Type: I want a mens or unisex bike (Tbh I never got the whole point of the women bike).
Where I live: Hilly - its all it is lots and lots of up and down.
I use to own: Gary Fisher Tiburon Hybrid bought about 3 years ago only used it for 1 year and 1/2 - paid about 500$ In Canada... I feel it was a bad choice - There are a lot of parts that were no good and I had to get frequent tune ups to fix all the time - I just didn't feel very satisfied. I have sold it 2 days ago.
I should add that I like bikes that look more like road bikes so I guess performance hybrids.
Anyways I appreciate your reply a lot I have been in so many bike shops and I just feel a bit clueless as to what to go for. Most bike shops I feel just want to sale me something - I would really be so greatfull for a little guidance.
Thanks!

Your right it is hard to find carbon under that amount. Nice we have a big trek store around here - they have been part of my decision making. So - Since i'm a total newb with parts what is so great about it? What are your favorite features?

Check out the DC REI store. The sales people are typically knowledgeable and unpushy. Plus, you get 10% rebate on list price merchandise if you buy a lifetime membership for $20. REI sells Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, Diamond Back, Scott, Marin, and their well respected house brand Novara.
Trek just provides good value, large selection, and selling a used Trek is ez peasy. I still have my Trek 850 mtb I bought new in 1996. I rode a 7.3fx two years ago and found it quite sporting. I just picked up a 2006 Trek Pilot 1.2, low miles. While about $1000 new, for 75% less, it is fast and comfy. My other Treks are vintage steel: 360, 520, 520 Cirrus, and a 620. Light, smooth riding, durable and responsive.

I'm confused. Are you in Canada, or D.C.?
There are a lot of good bikes out there. Buttttt, you always seem toget a little more for your dollar, with Giant, around here. Seems like components are a step up, for the same money.
Look at the Specialized Sirrus Elite Disc, or the Trek 7.4 FX Disc. No carbon, but both are very nice bikes in the Performance Hybrid category. I'm sure Giant has similar.

Or Cannondale Quick 4 or 3. Both have carbon forks, a very nice feature. The 4 is cheaper, and has slightly wider and nubbier tires. The 3 lists for $940, but you can get it cheaper. They ride really nice.
And if you need a women's model for the geometry, the frames look the same as the men's. Sometimes (often) the women's specific frame will be more comfortable for your body proportions.

No such thing. There's one down in VA at Bailey's Crossroads, the other two are up in MD on the Red Line. Not a big deal if the OP has a car,a big deal if they don't. They also don't sell Spec or Giant, you're thinking of HTO,which does have a location in Tenleytown near the Metro stop.
For the OP,only CF you'll get is the fork at that price point. For mech discs you'll want Shimano or Avid, for hydros pretty much any that use mineral oil(as apposed to DOT) will be fine. If you're going to be on anything other than smooth roads you should avoid aluminum forks with straight blades, they don't ride well. Suspension forks with a lockout are ok,but really not necessary if you have proper fork/tires unless you have CT issues. Most bikes are pretty much equal parts wise at the same price point. It's usually the frame design and how the bike fits you/feels to you that you should concentrate on. Trek's FX range are nice,as are Kona's Dews,Spec's Sirrus,Jamis' Codas, and C'dale's Quicks and Bad Boys.

Steel frames are getting much lighter and a whole lot cheaper than alloy or carbon and they last longer and resist more abuse. Then spend your money on higher end components and saddle, or custom fitting.

Take a look at the Trek 7.5 https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes.../fx/7_5_fx_wsd#

Pick the style, or styles, you like, and go ride them. Ride all of the differet brands you can. Take the ones you like, and ask to ride them a little longer.
One, will jump out at you, as the ONE you like the best.
Buy that one........

Sounds like a good idea - I didn't know I could try them until today in one of the shops i visited I was told I can try them. So I think that will deffenitly be part of the deal for the next times i go to the shops! Thanks ... I'll post below my top favorites that i'm considering at the moment - maybe that will help you guys out to advise me... I visited 3 other shops today I felt a bit discouraged again my budget seems in an inbetween gray area ! Its like everything is either 500-600 or 1k-1.4k.

So here are some of the options im consiering with what i can find around here...
https://www.cannondale.com/2013/bikes...-cx/quick-cx-3 (This one I can find here but im scared it's too much on the offroad side and for the price I think the components could be better?)
https://www.cannondale.com/2013/bikes...ick-sl/quick-4
https://www.cannondale.com/2013/bikes...girl/badgirl-3 (This one to me is so attracktive but i dont think i can find it here in canada)
https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bik...ruselite#specs
https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bik...itaelite#specs
https://opusbike.com/en/bikes/urban/u...ormance/adagio ( I Think this one looks like a good bang for bucks if compared to the Canondale cx3 as its a little more pricy than what i would like to pay)
https://www.devinci.com/bikes/bike_286_scategory_87
Anyways any opinions on these... would be appreciated i'm going to some different shops again today - hopefully I will find a few Giants or Scotts to add to my list of choices...

I also did go to a trek store - personally the treks are not appealing to me - not that looks matter that much but would you buy a car you find dont find appealing? ... I just want to atleast find it a little attractive... other wise the sales person kept bringing me to these girl bikes that look like ur gonna go ride by the beach with a basket and pompoms... I want a mean looking bike nothing pink and flowery - thank you. I do understand the purpose of the women bike that is designed for a women body but yeh no thank you for the pompom - i'm a very feminine girl but when im out ridding my bike its performance fitness time not picnic by the beach.
Also the sales person ended up recomending specialized to me which they dont sale there ... he prefered them to any other brand owning 5 bikes himself he had 2 specialized and said he would not go back to trek or canondale...
I have to say Specialized are the lighter ones I have seen thus far. Devinci claims they have lighter bikes yet when lifted one beside the other the specialized if finger lifting while the other isint.
So I guess it does come down to trying them out if they basically have similar parts. Hopefully when i return today I will have more options or will be more clear on what I want to get!

Here's the site you want for C'dale:
https://www.cannondale.com/can/
YMMV,but alloy forks bother my CT. Scott and Specialized tend to spec alloy forks as well.
I've owned C'dale,Trek,Specialized,Kona,Marin,Fuji,Schwinn(LBS,not x-mart),Jamis,Giant,Novara,Raleigh,Swobo,Bianchi,and Redline. Some had better features than others, some had better bits for the price, none were significantly better in quality than the rest.

Hey Yeh it is so nice the Bad Girl 1 is just wow Only has a half carbon fork in the front its really something body(frame)wise. I saw places near (2h drive) who have the bad girl from last year but this one is so much nicer i'm going to call a few places tomorrow and see if they can have it or order it. I would deffenitly get that one maybe the Badgirl2 since it's a bit better specs wise than the Badgirl3.

Now that you like one, ride it to see if it's really what you expected. If not, keep looking. Don't rush.
Wait for the one you fall in love with.
