Bought a SNAP three weeks back. It arrived, got unpacked, then I fitted my Kona DEW+ to it, no problemo. Took about twenty minutes in all, start to finish. Next I tried to fit my half-century old Motobecane Grande Record with its 120OLD Campy Tipo hub & 5-speed freewheel.

No dice. The SNAP's axle-capture isn't long enough on the non-drive side to accommodate the 132.6mm overall length of the hub's hollow 10x1.0mm axle.

Buried in Wahoo's Support documentation there's mention made of an A&B adapter (that I apparently misunderstood should have been included with my SNAP) intended to overcome this kind of thing. Wahoo Support tells me these adapters are furnished with the higher priced wheelless trainers, not the SNAP.

Not exactly fully cognizant of the differences in models I bought a set of Wahoo adapters (yet unopened) that are for through-axle adaptation. Seems 12mm is a standard now as that's that these things are designed around, not the 10mm of my Campy hub.

If any forum members might have a wheel-less Wahoo trainer and don't need the A&B adapters that came with their device, let me know. I'd be willing to buy them off you if I can't somehow persuade Wahoo to sell me a pair.

I've made up adapters of similar nature before but lacking metal machinery and skills I've availed myself of the services of others to achieve this. In this case that seems unnecessary if I can source a pair of the Wahoo A&B adapters that someone else has but doesn't need

Even if you had the A&B adapters, I don't think it would help, since the least width you can get out of them is 130mm. I think you might have to modify the trainer itself to get to 120, but possibly the B adapter could lose 5mm or so.
My 50 year old trainer bike was spread to 130 before I got it.

I don't think any wheel-off trainer will work with 120 old. Wheel-on trainers should work, such as the Kickr snap. Or their rollers.

Why send it back? You've already ripped off the Band-aid and purchased one. Your adaptors fit the current industry trend. Who knows? They could be perfect for your next bike. There is no wheel off trainer that will accept a 120mm OLD. There just isn't; You'd have to make the trainer itself narrower.

Why not pick up the cheapest thing you can on any Craigslist, FB Market Place, or wherever? It doesn't really matter so long as it has a chain, crankset, handle bars & a means of shifting. You don't even need shifting if you only do structured workouts. ERG mode takes care of that.

You could also just keep the Kona Dew on the trainer, too.

Been keeping up your mind-reading faculties, eh?

In season I ride the MB in the outside world 95% of the time anyway. No reason why the Dew can't stay 'in harness' in basement, save some space in garage as well.

SNAP should work if you use a wheel with a nutted axle and add the Tacx trainer-adapter nuts outside the nuts that actually hold the wheel on....

Don't think for a moment I've discounted the potential in what you've described.

I'm enough of a tinkerer to "see" that in my head, it's the actual getting the proper bits together to bring it to reality that'll take some time. Having friends with machining skills and the equipment to put them to use leaves me wanting only to limit the favors I ask of them from time to time.

They aren't relevant for the SNAP. The support page article you found is relevant for the KICKR CORE, V4, V5, V6. I don't know why you think these adapters will solve your issue with the SNAP.

I’m not sure anyone who has the Core or Kickr won’t be using the adapters anyway. I think they are mandatory.

Just buy a super-cheap bolt-on wheel and play with the nuts and spacers to get the spacing you need. This is not a machining problem, it's a 15min searching in the parts bin problem.

If they're using TA instead of QR, they won't be using the QR adapters.
