Bikes: Trek FX 2 Gen 4
Hello from Los Angeles
Hi! New to cycling and this forum! At 40 and with 3 kids I started cycling about 2 weeks ago LoL. I bought a Trek FX2 gen 4 in Fjord Blue based on the recommendation from the sales associate at Trek Store in LA. I’ve been doing 2 hour rides every morning so far.
i wanted to know from the more experienced members here:
is this FX2 a good first bike? I only plan to use it for about 2 hours every morning as exercise.
Trek has a great 30 day policy and was wondering should I just upgrade to the Trek Domane or should I wait a year or so to upgrade? I’d say my skills are advanced beginner/creeping to immediate. Thank you all?

Hi, achun717, welcome to the site! Wow, the FX2 and Domane are vastly different beasts. The FX2 that you got should suit you fine for a while, and parts of it are upgradeable if you decide you want to get into the technical side of the cycling hobby. The other bonus is that it should be able to accommodate some off-road caliber tires should you want to try gravel riding. The Domane seems like more of a road oriented bike, which is fine (I have 6 old road bikes in my garage) but might not be the type of riding you are interested in doing. And, yes, I know they call it an "all road" bike, but in bikes & motorcycles it always seems like a ride specifically for what you want to do is always the better option. Me, I'd use the FX2 for a year or two, see what kind of riding you like, and then go from there. Who knows, you might try gravel riding and love it and then be more of a Checkmate kind of person. Or, you might take the FX2 on some light trails and decide you want to be a mountain biker and then there is whole other universe open for consideration. Whatever you do, have fun and stay safe!
