When did "Go ahead" start meaning "No"?

A couple of weeks ago, I told my wife that I was thinking of buying a bicycle for exercise. She immediately gave me grief about things that I have started but gave up after a while. But eventually she said "go ahead if that is what you want to do".

So I bought a Trek 7.2 FX. Was she thrilled? Ouch. After 36 years of marriage, I should have known. Anyway, she is willing to support me if I use it.

I'll be 70 in a couple of months. While not too overweight, I am out of shape. The only exercise I get is a weekly golf game, jumping to conclusions, and running off at the mouth.

I took the bike out for a short spin this morning, about 4 miles of fairly level riding. Weather was perfect, the bike handled like a dream.

Enjoy it - and get out every day on it.

With a lot more miles on it - you will both be happy.

Welcome, Dave. Enjoy your new bike. I hope you get plenty of beneficial use out of it. After a few months of constant exercise, your new Roman God body will change your wife's tone.

Good luck!

Welcome Dave.
Just ride slow for 1,000 miles, then your legs will be strong.
Meet Roy:
At 73 he rode 4200 miles in 58 days.

I was with him:

I can hear that conversation now.
"Honey, I'm gong to ride across the country with some friends".
"Sure, go right ahead".

Oldest member of our club is 79 yrs old, and until two years ago - he commuted everywhere - like he had since age 5 (he used to give commuting talks at club outings) - and he ran and rode our time trials once a week. He retired from his board member post, but still comes out on club rides with his daughter.
