Greetings from North Carolina
Hello all. Started biking a couple of weeks ago after numerous injuries sidelined me from running. A bad Achilles among other things led to weight gain and just not feeling good. So a friend who bikes daily asked me to ride with him and I did ...last week was six days at 126 miles and I felt like a new man. Same distance so far this week. I live in the super flat Outer Banks. Hope to learn from other riders.

A Trek 1200 that's probably 7 or so years old. I bought used five years ago and it sat with little use until the last couple of weeks. Now I love the bike.

Welcome, I wasn't much of a runner either, tried running and didn't quite seems enjoyable to me as much as biking. With biking it seemed and seems like I actually get somewhere and is still great exercise. I have and am still meeting a number of wonderful biking people, all of the biking people seem like one great big family, willing to help you out if you have a problem while biking.

I actually loved running which is why I fought to keep running for so long. Ten marathons and countless shorter races just banged up my legs. The legs feel better already from biking. Way back when I used to ride pedicabs as a job during college and it seems my body has some muscle memory. Biking has been a blast and I am thrilled to be riding again.

Welcome, I'm not sure what the OB has for bike trails but if you get tired of riding with traffic I remember seeing a pretty nice bike trail that runs for a long time with Hwy 17 north of Williamston. It also goes in and out of the woods so it's mostly shaded.

Welcome to BF! Good luck with your riding and be sure to keep regularly cleaning the sand out of your drivetrain without fail. Letting the sand stay on your chain/cassette/crankset will be trouble...

We actually have pretty nice bike lane/trail/connector that goes from First Flight Memorial up to Duck that is 50 miles one way. It's pretty flat here but often windy.

Good to hear, that Hwy 17 trail should be less windy as well as mostly shaded if you're up for something new off the beach. Did you take your user name from the band ?
