Me to. Sometimes a bike is too fast to allow you to apprehend a place dense with stimuli.

Only a 29.... Its not walkable, and not the most fun to bike. We do have good trails, but the answer to traffic flow is always to add a new lane or highway somewhere. Thats OK because i'm shopping for a new city and I can see myself moving once my wife gets through school.
I used to live in NY and I came down here because it was cheap and I got tired of the crowds.

Tell me about it....like the new "NC540" what a waste of taxpayer dollars.

My suggestion....look for a smaller town a good hour away from the larger cities with a decent manufacturing base and a rail line. That is where the future lies IMHO.

I got a 17 for my house in NJ and an 8 for my beach house on Long Island. That's kinda strange, because the beach house is really much more walkable than the other. That said, they're both between 4 and 6 miles from commuter train stations, so getting to work in NYC does not require a car.

66; weird, the safeway grocery store is 0.86 miles away, but the safeway pharmacy is 0.98 miles. I guess it is at the back of the store.

I wonder if my score is skewed by movie theaters, that's the only entry in the expanded view w/ most entries >1 mile (and 6 of the 8 are >10 miles away). Very few categories have any entries >2 miles.

Your low "walk score" might be due to the fact that the software seems to consider an ideal walkable place to have the desired services within 1 or 2 minutes' walk and seems to consider (for the purposes of walking) something .9 miles away to be barely better than nothing, and something 1+ miles away to be of no use.

My house isn't walkable at all. It's about 10 miles from the bedroom to the kitchen with 60 mph traffic and no sidewalks.

I just don't feel safe taking the kids to watch TV without the minivan.

54 for my current place in suburban Arlington VA.

The house we just bought, in a more urban part of town, is a 94. This is precisely why we're moving, and I'm super pumped. Everything gets closer to home, except my office, but I ain't complaining about my bike commute going from 13mi r/t to 20+, that's for sure.

My apartment in Downtown St Paul puts me at a 98. All the essentials are within walking distance, but the good grocery store is biking distance. I do have a grocery store under my apartment, in the same building, but it costs more and has a worse selection. I do get emergency items there pretty often, though.

My girlfriend's new apartment near Downtown Minneapolis scores an 85.

My parents' house in the suburbs scores a 26.

It says my score is only 52. I'd have guessed it'd be 95.

I got a six, geeze. I guess I should stop riding my bicycle to work everyday... My mayor just went to DC to talk about how bicycle friendly our city was too. What a joke. OH well luckily the place I'm moving to in a month scored an 80.

I had fun sticking in all kinds of addresses.

*My last address scored 29. Outer suburbs of St. Louis, where sprawl is the word. I would have given it a 4. Maybe a 7, with the addition of a small indie grocery that opened this year. But they only carry firm, not extra firm tofu.
*My current address scored 86. South St. Louis city. Everything is nearby, but the roads and sidewalks are often dangerous without a steel cage. I'd give it a 75-ish.
*My new address scored 57. Rolla, MO. It's rural, but the university pretty much owns the town. Everything is centrally located within minutes of campus and drivers are more courteous and safe than in south city. I'd give it a high 90.

Via Bicycle got an 89. Guess they better ditch the wheels and start hoofing in.

Additionally, what does it take to get a 100? It appears you could be standing on a downtown corner and still not be totally walkable.

I don't know Tribeca, Soho, Chinatown, and Harlem all got a 98, they're about as walkable as it gets.

I got an 80 (downtown Albuquerque) but my girlfriend got a 66 and she lives in Nob Hill-- arguably the most "walkable" part of Burque.

I wonder if it values variety over quantity. I suppose "quality" of places is impossible to measure.
