There are seasons in SoCal, they are just more subtle, and the average temp's don't change that much if you are close to the ocean. The breeze off the Humboldt current keeps it both warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Right now, the Jacarandas are in bloom, and it's very pretty in SoCal. AZ seasons are more distinct, due to the temp changes. Winter nights and mornings are cold here (low 30's F), summers are of course blistering (110+). spring and fall are absolutely wonderful. Our yard right now is gorgeous, with the trees in full bloom - I'll post a couple of pic's over the weekend.

We used to pack our ski clothes to go see night games at Candlestick. In July, when it was 105 in the Valley when we were loading up for the drive.

Anyway, you guys know it's really two (or more) states, right?

There's no beach near any of those schools. He'll lose a valuable part of the college experience. Plus kids need vitamin D.

In Louisiana, there are two seasons - "summer" and "the rest of the year". The main variation is in the length of the transition period into and out of summer.

If I had a chance to move, it'd be to the Tucson area - similar to Phoenix, just less crowded. Maybe to Sierra Vista, so I could hit the commissary with the rest of the retirees.

Tucson definitely has an open, less crowded feeling, and is more 'old West'. Parallel differences to those between San Diego and Los Angeles.

I hate to disagree with Racer Ex but Pepperdine is essentially on the coast. It's right off of PCH in Malibu.

I like Tucson. Our youngest got into University of Arizona in Tucson and Drexel University in Philadelphia. He chose Drexel. We aren't moving. I look forward to infrequent visits to the east coast.

I know nothing of the school. The name sounded like one of those effete eastern private schools that turns out cultured yet ineffectual mid level diplomats.

"Yes, quite. I went to peh pah DINE".

I normally assume schools like that are kept well away from anywhere that's actually fun.

You have to remember I'm one of the great unwashed masses. My upper education consisted of having slightly deranged Nam vets yelling at me to keep my head down while they gleefully let rip with a machine gun as we crawled through the sand of Ft. Dix New Jersey.

There's virtually no chance my kid leaves the northeast for college. It's just not in his make up.

As a rider who rides past Stanford just about every ride, I would agree.

Also, the ocean is quite close, its just one hill climb away .

Skiing, not so close, that's what CO is for.

My youngest is all set to go to SDSU next fall. I'll be checking it out at the end of August when we dump him
and enter 'empty nest-dom'. I love him dearly, but I can hardly wait.

As for where to live, I like Ex's approach - go to where the weather is best if you can afford it.

Me too, BCT in '74, AIT in '75. No way Drill Sergeants today could get away with what those guys did.

I went to "university" in Oswego. Talk about grim. And then there is the winter weather. All 9 1/2 months of it.

Arrived in Truckee, CA for the masters state championship TT. At 6000 feet it is 90 degrees Projected starting temps are 60 deg with little wind. The last several years the temp has been in the low 40s.
