Here is an article on one of the latest breakthroughs in drug development for cancer treatment. My wife worked on this project.

A bold new way to test cancer drugs started Monday in hundreds of hospitals around the U.S. In a medical version of speed dating, doctors will sort through multiple experimental drugs and match patients to the one most likely to succeed based on each person’s unique tumor gene profile.

Hi all, long time since I've been around.

No racing for me, I'm afraid. Injured my knee in late October and couldn't train for a couple of months. Then a couple of weeks in the Caymans celebrating a friend's 60th birthday (poor me, eh?) and I find myself in mid-January 20lbs overweight having missed all the base training I would have done. No point at all in thinking I could recover from that and be competitive in a matter of a few weeks.

So I'm ticking over doing maybe ten hours a week, shifting the weight (again!!) and getting back into shape. The golf course is just over an hour away by bike and since I'm playing three times a week, that's about seven hours on its own. One hour out, round of golf (I carry my bag), one hour back at varying intensities makes a decent day's activity; enough for the other ageing golfers to think I'm nuts, anyway, and together with a decent 3-hour ride on another day it seems to be working the usual magic.

But the older I get the harder I find it to recover the ground lost. And the truth is, a lot of that is in my head. I know how hard it is to get, and stay, race fit. Do I want to hurt myself that much, or am I finally going to settle for just being fitter than 95% of the other 60 year-olds out there, and consign to memory the feeling that I'm about to hurl in the middle of yet another interval session?

I don't know why I'm asking, really. I know the answer in this forum, you're all as mad as a box of frogs and will just encourage me to go for it. LOL.

Well, I had the opportunity to change my rear cassette and decided to try to clean up the cassette and chain. I am far off the mark set by @Cleave whose chain and cassette look like they just came from a Tiffany showcase.

Hermes - I changed out my cassette today and cleaned it. It looks much better than it did, but not quite as nice as yours. I replaced it with a brand new one...and that one still doesn't look as good as Cleave's!

Went to my ortho doc today. The good news is that my clavicle is well and completely healed. The bad news is that I may have a torn rotator cuff. MRI on Monday, then back to the ortho doc on Wednesday to go over the MRI results.

Consider the box of frogs unleashed. Join the party and we can all hurl together as a band ...

Yeah, we're all chasing the 'standard' that Cleave set. Tall order.

Dag gum son! Come back and read all the race reports and think 'whew at least no mangled bodies this week' then I see this. Hope you get good news on this one.

IBO - It's from the same crash. It appears that the doc wanted to make sure the collarbone was healed before dealing with other issues. I've still got a crooked finger to deal with as well.

I love bling, but Cleave's driveline was way beyond that. Stunningly shiny!

Hmm. Now that even the newbs are going under the hour for a 40k, the bar seems pretty high. I can hurl going slower than that. But I'll turn up the gas a bit and we'll see how we go.

Moving back to the mountains full time. Two houses in the process of being sold, found an interim rental, looking through a bunch of inventory to find the right house to land in. Have three athletes doing the State TT this weekend. Probably won't race myself, long days packing and selling off surplus stuff aren't doing a lot for the legs or fatigue level.

The current US record holder is in my age group and racing. Last year he went 49:30. i'd need a couple of minutes to give him a run. Ain't going to happen. If I can get healthy might give the 55-59 record a shot next year.

Racer Ex, I was just kidding when I said I wasn't looking forward to you being in the Masters 55+ field in SoCal.

Don't be a stranger.

I have heard in certain races it is okay to use a team car for a lead out.

man...i was trying to figure out a way to come to sattley. i've decided to pass on making the trip this year (12+ hour drive) to not be in great form.

full power on the TT bike is challenging for me. can't tell if muscular issue, nerve impingement, healing from where they sliced the muscle, or irritation from the heads of the set screws...or all of the above.

love to race that course!

Drones video from the Brambleton GP this weekend. Pretty fancy... I like the kids event, looks like a rubber ducky race.

I sure do hope we can all get together at the PSG next year. That's become pretty special.
