Good job Chuck. Those type of moments are great to build from.
I *** 3 miles today with Ridley. Thought about doing Santiago Canyon TT but figured I keep the away time to a minimum. Turns out that was a good thing because our smoke alarm battery warning started going off around 7am. Mrs. Ex would have been listening to that till midday.
Tried to swim but the pool was too darn cold without a wetsuit, so I made some pasta sauce from scratch instead.

Final stats for my first big base week - 18:26, TSS 962, 320 miles. This was my biggest week ever. I don't think I'll do this much next week, but it'll be up there. I don't feel as tired as I thought I would.

I was surprised to see the mileage total too. I'm able to do that due to my involuntary early retirement. My scheduled time was 16:30 for the week, but I did an hour recovery ride on a scheduled day off, and almost an hour longer than called for yesterday.

Chuck, it sounds to me like you're THERE. Great ride, my friend! You're going to have fun next season.

48 miles at tempo, sometimes a little higher. It was a decent base ride. The big thing with this ride (other than I didn't crash) was that I purposely kept myself in check. I got a little a crazy early in the ride and rode off with the fast boys, but then I thought "you know, I don't really want to kill myself today". So I dropped off, waited for my girlfriends and the Tall Russian (he's the designated Chaperone) and then went easy, and really, REALLY enjoyed being on the bike. I had a couple of moments where I drilled it, a sprint or two, and then I let loose on a fun descent, and in that descent I bridged up to the boys and hung with them for a few miles. After that, it was back to the gals, and enjoying the day.

2 hour endurance ride followed by 5 laps in the 25 meter pool (250 meters). Well, the swimming went better than I expected but it was still hard. I must have at least 5 mitochondria in each shoulder. Now I can talk about other body parts loading up.

17 miles with the juniors today. We always hit the gelato shop afterward. It has become a ritual. I do not mind.

Make me feel bad why don't you! I spent half that amount of time training. The other half was sitting in a tree stand

Then you'll probably end up with healthier meat than I can! It's been 15 years since I've been in a tree stand. Save me some preacher's meat.

If I were still hunting, I'd take you up on it - whitetail is much tastier than gator.

Speaking of pain, I get to place my name on the 317 injury rooster. After upgrading to cat2(cyclocross) and doing well against the fast kids, my aggression outpaced my skill on Sat. Made a nice pass on two cat3's, but didn't make the loose, off-camber turn that followed, and something went snap/crackle/ pop when I hit. My ankle is jacked, and it looks like I'll be taking some forced rest.
I'd like to think that when I'm able to race again, I'll remember who I'm actually racing against, and practice an appropriate risk/reward behavior.
Most likely not.

Heal up quickly nacler22. One of my team mates broke a few ribs Sunday when he got punted from behind after going down in the sand pit at a cross race. It's better reading about race injuries than training injuries involving cars.
On my MTB adventure at Mochian Stare Park I did get the usual scrapes on knees and elbows. I went down twice due to chain/chainring issues. I could only use the big ring. In the middle ring the chain would skip when any pressure was applied and the little ring would drop the chain on bumpy/rooty areas. Really frustrating since its a new chain and the inner rings are virtually new also as I always run our local trail in the big ring since there in no sustained climbs. I'm wondering if a bent derailed hanger is the culprit?

Thanks, I'll be starting the Iceman out as a fun race. My realistic goal is to be in the top 10% of my age grouping since I’m not in any kind of 2:15.00 race shape. I'm ready for a 2X10 but not the XX1 single that my Brother in Law's Superfly has. At Sunday’s Post ride bratwursts and brews, when they were talking bikes and the $450 cassette cost came up I abandoned hope for a XX1.

First thing my new coach told me to do.... 10 days completely off the bike.
FML
It's sunny and nice, by the time the 10 days are over it'll probably be snowing.

I have actually decided I look forward to the weight training nights now. Far less miles/time on the bike, but feeling very good.

^^ I get to keep doing my weight-training at a slightly reduced level, and I'm allowed to go for walks & yoga (which I don't normally do), that kind of thing. She only told me this morning, and I'm already cranky.
