GB's back from Mars.
No riding, but a fantastic trip with Teresa out to Albuquerque. Lots of hiking through some of the strangest physical terrain I have ever seen. Man, it's weird out there- ocean floor at 6,000 ft. Mountain peaks with shell fossils at 11,000 ft. And... amazing ancient history: Pueblo ruins thousands of years old, petroglyphs, natural hot springs. Had a great time. Monument to Monument is on for Memorial Day Monday 8AM start. |
Looking forward to the BBC ride down to the Nat'l Mall on monday. Weather looks iffy
for rain, but if you know me, you know I'll ride it regardless. The link to my "rando notes" in the BBC calendar is not working. The corrected description and link is below. 15-17 mph - 8:00 am - 95 mi - bob wagner (bobwag@...) START: Monument st. and Charles St, Baltimore (southside) A Randonneur's Ramble from Baltimore's Washington monument to DC's Wash. monument. As you expect, roads are trafficky in and out of the cities - but they are relatively safe and well tested. In-between there'll be nice long stretches of country roads and numerous paved trails. If you want the full century, you will have to go around the block a few times. Leader: Bob Wagner bobwag@... READ THIS BEFORE RIDING- http://tinyurl.com/RandoRideNotes I'll bring some cue sheets to the start, but if you've got the capability, you can print your own here: http://cuesheetcentral.com/uploads/mon_to_mon+map.pdf |

But, the day is still young. I may get a high spin ride in before the day is out... if the spasms in my muscles stop. |
Anyone have any suggestions for a nice, safe, flat trail or area to ride with my kids? I am in Annapolis. My neighborhood is very hilly and I want to pull a trailer. I'm not in shape for that yet!!

Hopefully we won't have a strong headwind to the monument like we had for the zoo. I want to take it easy--legs are still not quite healed from the cramps yesterday. |

See ya there, I had to make some last minute sitter changes, I almost though I wasn't going to make it as my Mom is sick. Gotta love my Grandma though for helping in such short notice. Worried about a headwind, the wife keeps telling me its suppose to thunderstorm all day! However I never believe the weatherman so the fenders and rain gear will stay at home |

Epic ride ya all! I did 149 miles (that includes round trip to ride start) I averaged 14.8mph before leaving GB, not bad considering. After I left GB I think I averaged 8mph, I am pretty thoroughly spent. I will try to get some videos up tomorrow. I'll let the others tell about the ride but it's not every day when a motorists who was stuck behind you gives you some positive affirmations.
Take the river! |

Did you get caught in Beltsville's HUGE rainstorm around 3:30(much more than Baltimore's)? Apparently it dropped many inches of water in less than a 1/2 hour. squish, squish squish for this morning commute. |

I also just back from Utah and its bizarre landscape. Lots of roadies out there with little to no rain and 80F temps. I, like GB did not ride but hiked a lot with some really spooky trips into slot canyons. Went to Zion, Bryce, Escalante and Capital Reef.

Did the 35 mile downtown coffee run Sunday morn then up to the NCR that afternoon to meet friend Bennett who was doing a loop from Arlington-Chambersburg-Balt-Annapolis. Then accompanied him to Annapolis on Monday, made some wrong turns getting south of Baltimore, yuck. I took the lightrail from Cromwell to Mt. Royal on the return because I got no love for that southern approach to Bmore, though I know some of you do. I hit the rain in Roland Park-felt great. |
Anyone know where to find some easy single track trails? I'm in the Eastern Panhandle of WV. I just really started riding about a week and a half ago and it's been on the Towpath which is right across the river from me, so I'm looking for some trail rides that won't kill me with anything too dangerous.

http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/10783/23251 It's too long and picture-ridden to re-dissect and place here, so just go to the link. @Barry - I linked your video into my trip report as well. |
I just cleaned off the bike and somewhat straightened the wheels, we'll see tommorow when braking how they feel, pretty easy to bend back w/pliers
NR, very nice ride report! :thumb: Barry/NR, any idea on total elv gain? |
