Well, I am in Alexandria at work. Started to commute (by car) home to Annapolis, but thought better of it after a report from my wife.

Severn River bridge closed, accidents on 97 and Aris T Allen Blvd...

I may spend the night at work...

I wish I could help. Time to think about studded tires, I would guess.

hmm, would be nice if I were close enough to commute by bike, but I dont feel like making my commute 3 hours long. From Annapolis, to Alexandria.

I am sure it could be done, but it would probably be ~50 miles each way and I would have to take a round about way.

I was out in a car at 8;30 last night and things were drivable, not nice but certainly driveable. Hope you made it home.

STUD REPORT

Not talking love life here. Well I had no problem biking last night, nor this morning. The sidewalks were coated, last night Muirkirk rd was a parking lot of cars with only me making it through, bridges were sketchy, main roads were decent especially this morning. The train platform was thick with ice. I guess the studs did well as I never slipped nor felt out of control. The coolest part of my ride was my 1 mile single track through the woods. Everything was ice coated and glistening. The trees were hanging low, raining icicles on me as I brushed past them. Better than coffee. Be extra safe out there today. Charlie

I did make it home last night ~10. Left work around 845 and the roads were just fine. And traffic had thinned.

I would probably opt for the used road bike from a thrift store and put a few dollars to upgrade some components. The Schwinns that are being sold at Target and Walmart lately are really heavy for a road bike, and the components are'nt that great. I have found all of my road bikes from either yard sales or thrift stores and have had alot of fun upgrading and riding them. Just a thought...

thanks, that where I'll head first, there one on my way home off back river neck, if no luck there I'll be going to one off washington blvd, they are usually $40-50, so that leaves some $$$ for upgrades.

thanks

If you do happen to go that route and find an older steel frame bike, the classic and vintage section of the forum has been priceless to me for fixing and upgrading. I'm still waiting to find that Trek Madone or Orbea at a thrift store...Hey don't laugh it could happen..

Sorry to hear. -D! At least you have two (three?) weeks before your birthday ride. I would think you'd be done with this by then.

Yeah, I have the Road Machine. I like it; it will definitely give you a workout in the bigger gears.

I just got a Cylceops Fluid2 for Christmas. It has already seen much use, and I like it a lot as well. Has a really good feel in terms of resistance and smoothness.

Yea I have been torn. The KK road machine is cheaper than the fluid 2. BUT the fluid 2 is available via performance, so with my team performance plus a sale it might be a little cheaper.

THe KK is power calibrated and has a pretty cheap addon to give you power during your workout. That could be cool.

Or get a performance brand fluid trainer for $130. But I would rather buy a good one once, than buy a cheap one and upgrade later.
