No, I wasn't feeling it, so I took it easy--Saturday and Sunday were both low stress days on the B&A Trail. It was probably good that I let my muscles heal a bit more after the weekend before last.

I'd be into an up/back to Chesapeake City some sunday. Never been there.

We could cut about 20 miles out each way by getting a ride from Biller's Bike Shop in Havre de Grace making it into a century, unless you -want- to ride the Susquehanna river area--hilliest part of the entire ride.

It's got to be more fun then when I carry a 20 pound backpack to OC, MD.

Just wanted to say if any of you guys were in the Sugarloaf Mountain area Saturday and saw a chick hiking her bike up the hills, that was me on my brand new Fuji. Thanks for not falling off your bikes laughing at me. I'll be big and strong one day like you guys!!

You planing on riding up their next week by chance? Cause I did it a couple weeks ago with a friend and if you want to tag along with us you are more then welcome to. We normally do the mountain and then on the do a 10 to 15 mile loop around the area at the bottom.

Also is the road down cleaned up? We went after one of the big storms and I could not get any speed down it because their was to much crap on the road.

So Thursday I was adjusting my derailuer in my back yard, (bike upside down) When my boy was nice enough to stick a wrench in my spokes, scared the shiit out of him, wrench went flying. Sure enough a spoke was broke on the drive side, wheel rubbing frame, I tighten the driver side spokes next to the broken one, So it would not rub anymore.

After a light saturday ride, I called around Performace and Bike Doctor couldn't get to it til after Monday. So I called Broadway Cycles, I got same day while you wait service, which was great. People were really nice. One woman came in just want to know how to change a flat tire, they took here back and taught her. Nice place and people. Big selection.

What's right and wrong with bicycle transportation planning 6/24 6:00 PM

I'm in need of a bicycle "cheering squad" on 6/24 6:00 PM at 2700 Lighthouse Point East (2700 block of Boston Street), Suite 310, in the Canton area of southeast Baltimore City. (arriving a bit late will probably be ok.)

We are 8 years into the State's 20 year master plan to make Maryland the best state for bicycling and walking. How are we doing in planning and building comfortable bike routes to work, shopping centers or even make biking to a trail a pleasant experience?

What is the State's policy in planning and funding extra road width to comfortable accommodate cyclists using the best engineering practices? What is the State's policy in following federal guide lines in utilizing Federal Funding to address the "needs" of bicyclists? Is the state listening to the needs and concerns of bicyclists?

What I have uncovered is truly shocking and has to change! This is a rare opportunity to address the State's implementation of Federal policies and dispersement of Federal Transportation Funds.

Please try and come if you can.

Chesapeake City Ride, Sunday 20080622

I got a late start--7:30am. I took it very slow, since it was going to be hot and humid out and the ride is, according to Bikely, ~140 miles long. I didn't want to get myself back into the situation I had 2 weaks ago with cramping. No way. The memory is still too vivid.

To simulate my ride to Ocean City in a few weeks, I carried a loaded backpack containing repair tools, clothing, tennis shoes, first aid kit, and rain coat. The bike had a nearly full compliment of lights and fenders. The backpack didn't feel too heavy when I started, but 60 miles into the ride, I could swear that someone had packed it full of rocks when I wasn't looking.

Anyway, I made it through the trip with flying colors (148.1 miles total). No cramps. Dehydration was kept to minimum with at least 4 stops per leg to eat and drink and to get out of the heat in an air conditioned building.

Today and tomorrow will be rest days--no commuting on the bike to work. It's all for the better, as I have been neglecting my lawn and I have errands to run where I need to use my car.

140 w/ a pack
IMHO: One of the best moves I've ever made commuting was to switch from a pack to panniers This is especially more important when riding road vs mnt bike. To each their own but think about it.

Soon to be 180 miles when I bike to OCMD.


I'd have to invest in another bike, unless I went with a seat post mounted rack on the Giant. I don't know how the carbon fiber bits would like the extra weight, though.

OMG no guilt for such a thing. I actually sent you a PM the sunday before mentioning that after my ride to Codorus State Park I was feeling the early stages of saddle sores and thought it best to stay off the bike for a couple days. Never had s-sores before and now I think the culprit is a saddle I bought recently. Because of that I've been on a perfect saddle search- buying, testing and returning(so far). The Brooks is probably a perfect match, but I don't like buying leather

And sheesh I gotta agree with you about NoRacer. 140mi with a full pack is making my back sweaty and sore just thinking about it. Seems like a great trip though. I might just give it a shot myself some monday... or, a sunday if I can ever get one off.

Those post mounts suck. I had one that couldn't hold any weight, kept slipping. That bike & rack were stolen so I went w/ a bike that could hold a rear mounting rack.
If you are riding a road racing bike those distances you will be able to ride for days on an old touring bike. It's like riding a chaise lounge. Takes you a little longer but such a sweet ride. Again in my NOT so humble opinion. Charlie

I just saw your PM. I haven't been on much lately since the computer was down. We'll ride soon. I am also dealing w/ my son in town visiting and aging parents , one with a broken foot. it's tough getting old.
Saddle sores are almost always the seats fault (or shorts). I always use butt'r on the backside when riding greater than 50 miles. I usually put it on mid-ride.
The Brooks and vegans: That's a tough solution. I don't know the answer but seat choice is one of the most important fits on a cycle. your newest saddle choice is pricey but if it works buy it.

Impressive, especially w/ saddle sores. I think I am 2200 for the year or near it. I wanted 5000 for the year but don't think it will happen.

I'm a bit over the 2500 mark. Kinda cool our little click all in the same ball park. I'm tempted to join Noracer for his 4th of July weekend as I am really itching to get some serious miles in. I did the kayak and brunch Saturday, then road out to Annapolis and back, then over to a party and finally back home. I think I got 90 miles in that day (forgot to hit the reset when starting.)

If you are -truly- interested in joining me for all or most of the weekend, it can be so. I already have a reservation that has a spare "hammock"--actually it's a motel on the Boardwalk. Worst case, you'd have to throw in $12/day.

I'm planning on cycling with a lady and her friend who lives out that way for part of one of the days. She's a racer. I've never met her in person, but I've helped her over the telephone with her iBike computer.

Also, we could bike out to Assategue on one day, maybe Henlopen Park on the way home.

Another fantasy of mine is picking up the ferry at Lewes and riding to Cape May, NJ; ride NJ for a bit and then ferry back to Delaware and resume the trip home.

Much of the time, I'd like to spend near the boardwalk trying to get rid of my "bike tan", but I think it's going to take more time than I have.

You do much more with a CF racing bike than most. Quite impressive.

You could go with a seatpost rack fine but would likely have to switch to a non CF seatpost. Another option would be a carradice bag (something I have been considering, as I am in the same situation as you).

I also keep my eyes on craigslist for a good deal on a Trek 520 at some point.
