I did 12 miles at Beacon this afternoon - very fast most everywhere, but some soft stuff where the sun was hitting most of the day. I did hammer the hills, but crawled going down because i forgot my helmet.

That's something I would do - - you're too young for that.

Don't forget D - my "crawl" is your Nationals race speed ;)

never 02-02-11 10:41 AM

D, that sounds like a challenge!

dminor 02-02-11 12:43 PM

^^Haha! He already knows he's faster than I am . . . he's just embarrassed to admit by how little :D.

The clock doesn't lie.

Doug - we all know, if it was on a real course, you'd have smoked me. But, if there was a swim on one side and a run on the other.........

just too darn cold to ride (for me. everyone else is riding, i'm a wuss). found this picture of me on holy cross from last summer. i guess this isn't a ride report, it's a "i can't wait to ride" report. just have to wait until the trails are ridable again. until then it's road riding season. *sigh*...i can't wait for dry trails and warm weather.

mechBgon 02-05-11 08:24 PM

I rode out to Riverside via Governement Way, thinking to do a couple laps of the 24-hour course. What an idiot, it's still under a good layer of snow, I'd need a Pugsley. C'mon springtime, we need you!

dminor 02-06-11 12:50 AM

^^ Ahh . . . but then Riverside will be underwater. Can't win.

Haha, too true. And they'll ticket ya for riding after dark nowdays, but if you go in the daytime, you can't really push the envelope or you'll run someone over (or vice versa). I sent an email to the park manager suggesting allowing night riding... it's not like we're going to start a bonfire, party, get drunk and spew litter all over. We just want to go ride bikes.

sscyco 02-06-11 10:02 AM

^^ I hiked the water fall trail on Mica with my kids - scoping to see if it is ridable yet - nope, too much ice:

^^ Good thing that part (last pic) was frozen over. We've slogged through that before when it wasn't :notamused:. Looks like skates may have been good to bring.

BTW, sorry it didn't work out to ride Beacon. I was under a pickup most of the day Sat. and part of Sun. Good news is I found and fixed the leak.

sscyco 02-07-11 12:52 PM

^^I made it up to Beacon on Sun. for an XC ride - pretty fun. Awesome morning and I was up there all alone. Heading to China in a couple days, so trying to get all the riding in that I can.

I haven't jonesed for a mountain bike ride this bad ever. Starting to think of a road trip for some riding...http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...5/P1020108.jpg

mechBgon 02-09-11 12:31 AM

I did an XC ride on the South Hill bluff with Dan tonight. It's frozen solid, so the trails were fast. We did about 1hr 10min and 1400ft of climbing.

I hate you.

So...the fire roads in Huntington (one of my local spots - went there since it gets a lot of traffic - figured it may be decently packed down...not so much) are somewhat packed/post-holed in.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...y/IMG_0005.jpg
Did laps there this afternoon. Going off onto anything not packed results in nosediving your front wheel in and coming to a dead stop. None of the single tracks are even remotely packed down and ride-able.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...y/IMG_0004.jpg

Still, it was nice to get out for a bit. Did a few miles worth of gravel road laps, had a snack.

I'm predicting May before any of the more tolerant of wet riding spots are even barely good to go. Even then, it'll be iffy. At least I'm close to Ninham, and it handles slop riding fairly well.

That is a sweet shot, eh?

dminor 02-10-11 01:50 PM

^^ Awesome shot. Trail looks so flowy and cool - - really wish I hadn't had to miss that day.

never 02-10-11 02:02 PM

I have some Rio helmet cam footage I still have to put together. I was on a pinner run (no one in front though so it doesn't look as exciting) but partway through, I got a big drop of mud that dried right in the middle of the screen. So over half of the run footage is useless.

scrublover 02-11-11 09:07 PM

Today was pretty good.
