http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...eviant/020.jpg You can ride down that little section of trail and it takes a hard right, right next to the water and goes into a steep climb. Went out for almost 3 hours today at a trail I have never ridden. It was a lot gnarlier than the trails I am used to. I ended up ridding with a guy I met at the trail head who was teaching me stuff along the way and had me attempting lines and obstacles I normally wouldn't try. I ended up endoing in one section flying down a steep rooted hill and got a little happy on the front brake as the front tire hit a root. Couple scrapes and bruises but it didn't slow me down. We didn't stop much to take pics because the riding was too good. We are going to go back out in a couple of days and hit the same trails again so I can get some more coaching from this guy. This is the first time I've ridden with anyone since none of my friends enjoy exercise, it was different. It was a faster pace, glad the dude was cool, looks like I may have found a riding buddy. |
Nice couple hours playing around the pedaly side of Ninham today.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0009.jpg Night ride on tap for tomorrow, then still have all day Thursday to ride. Most of Friday to ride, before work that night - then on for the weekend. |
Scrub, I love your pics! I hate you for the areas you have to ride, my trails don't get that fun which is good because I can't handle it at the moment but I cant wait until I can.

Great Pictures! How was the landing?

scrub are you a paramedic or firefighter or something? nurse/doctor maybe?
I took the bike out for it's maiden voyage through some trails today, The trail is very texas haha it's pretty flat singletrack mostly then all of a sudden rock garden climbs and decents. The rocky areas are very trick as they are maybe 3 feet wide and quite twisty with trees on both sides. besides that the mosquitoes are the size of quarters and eat you alive if you stop so i stopped quickly for these pictures: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...9/DSC03794.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...9/DSC03793.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...9/DSC03792.jpg |
Craigx3 You ever ride in Kerville? I'm heading to Austin to visit some family and look at a few apartments while I'm there. Then I will be taking my mom to a job interview in Kerville and she said it will be an all day interview so I plan on taking the bike.
|
nope never ridden in kerrvill but if you are going to austin you should go ride walnut creek or the green belt, those are great places to ride. where in austin will you be?
|
The family I will be visiting are off of Mo-Pac and Palmer and in the southern end of Pflugerville. As for the apartments I will be looking at I plan on just driving around for a day and looking at places all over the area. I'm not sure which areas are good and which aren't plus it may depend a bit on where I land a job. I'm just not enjoying DFW and every time I'm in Austin I never want to leave.

Otherwise, it's normally a very butter smooth landing, though the tranny is sorta' short. You really don't need much speed. |
very cool you will be right next to walnut creek where your family is. it's probably 3 miles from that intersection. I am from the Cedar Park area up north as well and it's great up there and a lot cheaper than downtown but downtown is austin at it's finest.
that is a pretty cool job scrub, get to see some pretty gnarly accidents come in. great pictures too! |
Rode Wompy again tonight. Lots of moosh from recent rains. Rooty and rocky. Christened the new kneepads with a slo-mo endo. crisp fall night, sweet.

Hmmm....to me, this looks like an interesting way to accomplish this elevation change.

heading out to Ringtail Ridge, the other local place i have not been yet.
Well i went out to this trail and it was built around an old animal slaughter house so there were ruins of this building and stuff all around which was pretty cool. The other big feature is the cactus, patches of cacti 8 feet tall and probably 40 feet around were pretty menacing being only about a foot off the path. The singletrak went from nice smooth flowing twisty singletrak to what i would call gnartrak. The rocks were like daggers and they didn't stop. I lost speed a few times and ended up jumping off to walk ahead til i could actually get back on and ride a bit. most of this place was pretty flat maybe 20-50 feet of elevation change the whole time made for a lot of pedaling but that's alright. When almost out of the 8 mile loop i discovered and went over my first skinny or ladder or whatever you prefer to call it. It was only about 4 feet off the ground and i made it over the first time but when i went back i dismounted half way through so i didn't eat rocks. All in all a pretty good day of riding in this great low 70's sun shinin weather! |
Wed. and Thurs. were beautiful and it was light enough to ride for about an hour each evening. Big Creek Park is close by, so I hit that trail and got a good workout. The plan was to ride Blankets Creek on Saturday, but it looks like we are in for heavy rain tonight...so muddy and bad conditions tomorrow.

Better perspective, but I think it's too compressed and doesn't play well. Better angle/perspective, but still need another rider in there. The perils of riding solo, alas.
http://vimeo.com/7225883 It'll play better if you let it load fully before watching. |
Navigating the tube from my recliner, leaning into the remote, diving into the donuts, icing the left side (still), whoop de doos on the laptop-yehaw! What a rush! Catching air with every yawn. Curse the sidelines.
