Depends on where and how I feel like riding. That trail spot, there isn't anything I'd not hit on either of the hardtails. Didn't feel like the SS that day though, and the Peyto is awaiting its frame-ectomy from the crackage, so it was out. The big bike is even more overkill there than the Pitch is, so...that left me riding the Pitch.

The Pitch is for those days and trail spots when I know there is stuff that I want to hit up that is bigger than I can handle on the hardtials. Not that they can't take it, but the Pitch is most certainly a skill enabler on those days.

There are a couple hits at Ninham I'm eyeballing with the hardtail, though they will be for days when I'm there with other riders/armored up. Likely this winter when the armor won't have me sweating up as much as it would in summer. :D

I like taking overkill bikes on smooth ****. Taking my shorter travel singlespeed on burly huck meat trails. The Pitch on pedaly technical rides. IMO, makes me a better all around rider, riding all my bikes in all conditions on all sorts of trails. Hell I had some absolutely kickass rides on my cross bike on some chunky trails in Colorado. Slow going, kicked my ass, and was not at all the right bike for the trails. But it was fun as hell!

Did first MTB ride ever Saturday.
Been riding road and always wanted to try.

I hit Marshall Canyon in Claremont, CA and it was a blast! One section was def too technical for me and i took it real slow but still had some "o crap" moments. Didn't go down and made it through everything so it was pretty sweet. Long steep climb to begin with them down through the woods and switchback doublewide trails. Sand, mud, rocks, dirt, streams, roots etc. It had everything I'd expected. After getting a "feel" for it I'm ready to work on some skills and taking some sections on a little faster.

Getting used to the braking and weight shifting is a new feel.

Def a great ride. I hope to hit it again next week.

You DO realise that this is the MTB section, right?

Anyway, did a ride yesterday at the YouYangs, not that anyone here would know where they are.

Videos will come as soon as I can get them.

Saturday I took a roadie buddy of mine into Duxbury Woods for his first real singletrack experience. We sparked the ceremonial dubois, then hit the trails. I coached him a bit on some basics (I wish someone had done that for me 3 years ago when I started) and he did pretty good. He endoed coming over a logpile and whacked his shoulder a bit. Oh yeah, he also bit it in the parking lot after I encouraged him to try hopping a rock obstacle before we even started riding - I guess I should have let him warm up first. It was a freakin gorgeous day to be in the woods, temps cleared 70.

Today our club had its Wompaturkey ride in Wompatuck SP. 13 miles, really wet and muddy, a great ride and a great crew. Still on the warm side too. I did a new section around Triphammer Pond that I'd never ridden before. Very technical in places, I walked a couple sections, but it was pretty sweet.

Here's the first vid, taken by one of the other guys on the ride.

Did get a short real ride in. 1/3 the way up lung buster hill, it was a good start. Took a couple hills on Horizon Ridge as good as ever, then I flatted. Oh well, the knee and ankles feel good, little ankle swelling. Changed the Michelin Commuter for a Kendra Kross, enormous control and confidence in a good combo tire.

Lots of miles on the w&od trail on the road bike with two friends on fixies. That was amusing. They were hammering and I just coast on by.. I was freezing. But had a 330 calorie 7-11 sandwich, so it's all good.

I decided to map out my morning ride route for the fun of it.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2511/...d3fe6c0d_o.gif
I estimate it was about 6.3 miles and took just under an hour.

Daspydyr 11-03-09 11:22 AM

11 miles before breakfast. The only good thing about daylight savings time. My new Bell Influx, which claims to be well vented is right. My bald head was chilly the whole time.

craigcraigcraig 11-03-09 11:50 AM

bald haha. what's the temperature out in the desert nowadays?

Down to a chilly 82 today and through the weekend, brrrr. Got to break out a parka! It was probably 55 this morning. Weird weather the past month, one week we set record lows and getting back to the 80's is tying record highs. Remember, you can grow hair if you need to, I have better stuff to do with my protein.

Video #3: Cressy Climb...Although it's mainly ridden down hill, as we did.

sounds like texas, not quite that cool in the morning but the 80's during the day are hard after low 60's in the mornings

Boo-hoo. Beats scraping frost off the windshield.

craigcraigcraig 11-03-09 04:36 PM

haha sucker. you get better riding up there though so eh it's a trade i guess.

ed 11-03-09 05:57 PM

I have crappy riding AND I scraped frost this am.

Daspydyr 11-04-09 10:22 AM

FROST, on a windshield, I thought it only frosted on the sides of my root beer mug? That's weird.
