Rode for the first time in about 3 months. Great ride. My buddy who always runs his mouth had a nice little flip over the bars, injuring only his ego. A particular log also thought it necessary to remove my roommates rear derailler. Equally funny (the rest of the trail was pretty much downhill, so he just had to coast it). And got to use my spare tube and little C02 air up thingy. Besides a some pedal rash on my shin which caused me to cry slightly on the inside, no damage. Slight breeze, partly cloudy, mid-80s (for the first time since May).

nice 15 mile trek through the Woodlawn Preserve trails and the Brandywine State Park today after huge rainfall. about 3 pounds of mud on the bike and myself...2 pounds of the mud immediately lost when i hit that small boulder, bending my fork back a few inches, damaging my helmet (into a tree) and the bike tumbled on top of me in slow motion...i guess to make up for the speed of the previous 3 seconds...

100 miles on the road today.

what is this bike?

Nice ride today at Clinton north shore trails. Didn't take the camera today, wish I would have, These old pics aren't nothing like the trail looks today. I imagine this is conmstant for everyone, but mother nature changes our trails over the year and they take on a whole new dimension
There is a wide right line now up this hill. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...l/IMG_0113.jpg This little climb has become very difficult becuase of exposed roots crossing the hill at a 45. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...l/IMG_0098.jpg This section is all rock and root now, your tire does not touch any dirt http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...l/IMG_0049.jpg I shall have to carry the camera and get new pics for a side/side comparison. |

In all seriousness, Congrats! Not too many people can ride a century. But.....which bike did you ride? I hope it wasn't the one with the seat post all the way down. That would be badass. Riding the mtb the rest of the week. Did some shuttle runs today in the muck. |
Centuries are a great workout, at 40 miles I start getting fidgity on the seat looking for a softer place to sit, after 60 I'm really wishing I could get comfortable, after 80 everythings numb and I get that second wind, and I work to get to the finish. At 100 I'm so glad to get done!

Aug. 29th (Santa Cruz, Ca.)
My bro and I went up and through Wilder Ranch, first getting around a group of cows, hopping a gate, climbing through this woodsy trail, popping us out and climbing up Long Meadow Trail to get to the singletracks in UCSC. It was pretty packed in the woods, and overall climbing elevation is about 1200ft. I think we covered about 20+ miles, including riding the asphalt to get to the where we needed to go. 20 mi. may not seem like much, but negotiating singletracks with all the logs, roots, rocks, jumps, kickers, etc. it really kicks you in the rear. http://hphotos-snc1.fbcdn.net/hs185...._5034800_n.jpg A blurry photo of a log crossing across a 10 ft. drop onto jagged rocks. Needless to say, I took the pu$$y way around. Aug. 30th (today in San Jose, Ca.): Having beat myself up on yesterday's ride, I decided to take an "easier" (yeah right) approach and climb Hicks Rd. to Mt. Uhmunum with my MTB. Why the MTB? Because I was almost positive that there is a dirt trail that descends back to the valley. All that sweat drenched climbing a CAT1 rated climb, running out of food and water in the baking sun was not worth the disappointment of what MTB trails were offered. I was exhausted after climbing that steep mountain - all I wanted was a cool single track to drop into and down to the valley. Unfortunately, there is nothing but boring, rocky fire roads - If I wanted my fillings to pop out of my head, I would've went to the dentist. I guess there was something to it since was able to climb up 2160ft. in about 4.1 mi. (according to Daily Peleton) - but I was looking forward to rewarding that climb with some off road action. Oh well. I descended via Hicks, stopped at the parkng lot of Quicksilver Mines and refilled my hyration pack. I'm buying a 100oz. pack this week. http://hphotos-snc1.fbcdn.net/hs165...._2322326_n.jpg At the top of Hicks looking out toward the rest of my climb - Uhmunum. http://hphotos-snc1.fbcdn.net/hs185...._6094353_n.jpg Top of Uhmunum - time to go off road! http://hphotos-snc1.fbcdn.net/hs185...._4460059_n.jpg Took the fire road to the very tippy top which overlooked the entire valley. My local terrain SUCKS ASS compared to what Santa Cruz offers, but it's all I got - and it's probably better than what a lot of people have. I'm just spoiled on SC. Saw a lot of CX folks getting ready for the season. My brother is racing this season, so that's going to be fun. My fat ass will be on the sidelines, cheering. Now I know why I love my XC bike so much - I can take that thing anywhere: asphalt, fireroads, singletracks, dirt, mud, goop, etc. Road bike is limiting and it has it's days (when I need to be limited due to time). Loving the titanium BD bike. That thing fires on command. |

Hit up a long ride exploring most of the trails by the Jamesville Quarry(any one from the area probably knows it well). Went with one of my friend's who's more of a slow going xc'er with her dog so it wasn't anything fast. Did meet a guy on the trail that was working on maintaining it, real nice guy. Only annoy thing is I whacked my knee against the crown of my fork for the second time by hooking my opposite pedal on a stump, uggghhh.

You should try a double metric in the future, 126 miles.
Did one of those this year, major suffering. I know a lot of people that like the BAK, Ragbrai, across state rides, but if I do one I wanna do it in 3 days not 6. |

Definitely likin' the "flung-dog-poop" graphics on the bottom of the downtube, though - - very realistic. |
it's been many months since i have seen green grass, looks like a nice place to ride though. Cool bike as well.

The picture you're referring to was mainly taken to show the actual shape of the downtube and frame. From a side view it always looks round in photos, but as you can see is flat underneath.

Nice, Luke...you must be a pretty tall dude, eh?

So, I learned three things this evening.
1) Raising your seat makes you faster in a straight line 2) Raising your seat makes you slower in the bends. 3) Double Clutch heel-toe is way more fun than single clutch. |
