The one guy I was told was a professional racer.... very fast lol.
They had Gary Fisher Carbon 29'ers... I was on my Kona Dawg, the hills killed me, but for the most part I was able to match their pace (which was not their fastest... it was their easy day lol)
we probabley did 10 or so miles.... We found an injured Eagle and we felt obligated to find help for it. The guy and I rode over 5 KM's and went on a wild goose chase to find the Forrest rangers house, only to find out he doesn't deal with wild birds lol....

Thats hard to do, as people don't speak english very well.

.

Good that you're finding trails/other riders finally. See? Told you the stuff was out there. :thumb:

Tip: it's their country. Don't expect everyone to speak English just for you, even if they are able. You'll do far better if you persist in learning more conversational German.

Went out to a trail I have never done with a friend. First time on clipless, it was pitch black 5 minutes after we started. Was interesting and a good time but very sketchy

I don't expect them too, I was just stating it was a chore in its self just to be able to communicate, let alone try to save the falcon.

The trails here arent like the states.... Compared to the GA, NC, SC area these trails suck...
there are no loops either, these trails just end. then you have to hop onto a road or logging road, and get back on a hiking trail to ride on.

Some of the other riders complained of this as well.

Rode Thomson again tonight w/ the fiancée. It was raining, so it helped to keep us nice and cool. I took it nice and easy on account of the numerous wet roots; and I didn't want to leave my fiancée behind too much. Totaled only about 4.5 miles or so (she doesn't have much endurance yet)

-_RebelRidin'_- 08-13-09 01:56 AM

Yea, watch some of them areas of Thomson when wet. Make a mistake and it will bite ya, lol...

There used to be a little more fun stuff on Thomson, due to erosion and saftey reasons the OMBA had to re-route some of the trail.

bigmand 08-13-09 11:10 AM

There's still a couple of areas where there's some pretty heavy erosion, but with it would be a ton of work to reroute in those areas. Overall, it's still really good, especially if you like roots!!!

-_RebelRidin'_- 08-13-09 02:39 PM

Honestly, the erosion is the worst part of Thomson... The OMBA guys discourage riding during the rain due to that. the only thing I can think off is if someone brings a truckload of fill dirt so y'all can recover some of the trail.

ca7erham 08-13-09 04:48 PM

Do you mean Ohio by OMBA? Because yeah, the're a bit over protective of trails. Always closing them. But as a result, our trails are in great condition. But you probably didnt mean Ohio anyways.

Rode the trails in Brown County Indiana. Super cool trail system. I think there are like 20+ miles total. I found a cool little 2 miler with tons of small flowing hills/whoops. If you ride it right, you can flow forever without having to pedal....Excellent trail.

I rode most of the afternoon...not sure on the mileage.

Going out to Momba in Dayton Ohio this afternoon....

Brown County is the ****! I was there a few weeks ago for a few days, hoping to make it back once more by years end.

I rode one day of the Shore (Seymour) and then Whistler for a few days. I rode one of those days at Whistler with dminor. It was awesome. That is all.

OK, out with it man. How did you like Original Sin / In Deep / No Joke / Duffman?

never 08-17-09 02:38 PM

I get to ride steep, techy stuff around here but we're really lacking jump trails. So I hit a bit of the steep/tech stuff but I spent WAY more time on the jumpy trails. The line I had the most fun on was Freight Train/No Joke to Dirt Merchant to A-Line.

Did my favorite 'local' loop yesterday. No pics yesterday, but will add pics from previous rides :)

24 miles, about 2400 ft of climbing (305 unit said 2900ft, software corrected it down  ).

The ride starts out on Clementine trail, with a small amount of double track, goes to some moderately technical single track, then back to double track for about 1 mile of climbing, before turning in to pavement for 2.5 miles. All uphill - at the end, you've climbed about 800 ft vertical. I met up with a couple of friends here, as this point is the start of an 18 mile loop.

From here we hit the Connector trail, which is four miles of rolling, fast single track. The middle of the trail small ravine you need to navigate. It loses about 150ft of elevation in a half mile, before climbing a little over 200ft in the same distance to the other side, then continues up at a light grade for another couple of miles.

On the Connector last fall:

Top of the ravine on the connector:

At the end of this, we hit the Forest Hill Divide Loop. This is 11 miles of mostly single track, but one fire road descent that's pretty fast (not hard to push mid-30 mph range here). This trail has some sweet descents and ass kickers for climbs. Not much in the way of technical stuff, with the exception of one little root section, and a very small rock garden on a slightly steep part of hill side. This trail shows off all of the major ecosystems of the Auburn State Recreation area, and serves up views of the American River and Upper and Lower Clementine Lakes. The North side is generally exposed to sun, with a great look out point and a beautiful meadow in the spring. The South side is mostly shaded with two awesome descents.

On the Divide Loop earlier this year:

http://www.cleanspokes.com/Broken_Le...s/dsc03458.jpg

After the Divide Loop, we hit the best section of trail on this whole stretch. We ride the connector back to the start of the 18 mile loop, and the first two miles is very fast, downhill, bermed single track that rolls. It's as close to a roller coaster as I've come on the bike, you can drop down each descent and roll to the top, just hearing the zip of your tires slow to near stop at the top of the next rise, then do it all over again. The descent in to the ravine is a bit more technical from this side as the trail is extremely dry and littered with some rocks that will kill your wheel if you hit it right on your hard tail. The climb out on this side is much easier.

Coming back on the Connector:

http://www.cleanspokes.com/mtb-fdlt-...s/dsc01932.jpg

Following the Connector, I parted from my friends to finish out the ride. From here I ride the Stone Wall trail, which features a massive view of the American River Canyon and rock quarry. It connects to the Confluence Trail, which is heavily used by shuttling riders on full DH rigs, with lots of jumps (bypasses for weenies like me), small rock gardens, and a nice penalty cliff if you fall off to the left side. The trail ends with a smooth patch of single track above the river, with views of the North Fork and (a few) attractive sun bathers.

Here's a pic of the view from Stone Wall. This was the first ride on my Epic in 2007:

I love riding in Auburn :D

Well...I rode a new trail (to me) near Manhattan yesterday. I got dehydrated and came home with a fever:lol: When will ever learn? It wasn't that hot...just 79% humidity.

It was a slow-going trail with alot of basketball sized rocks poking up out of the trail that you had to bob and weave and jump over. Mrs. B2B got about 1.5mi in and went over to bars...scared us all half to death. As she sat there bleeding, she said "Well I'm just gonna have to wear a face-mask because I'm not gonna quit riding my bike  She's freakin' tough.

As I said, I got dehydrated. I drank a Gatorade OTW there, had my Dakine filled up with 50/50 water Gatorade, got through with the first loop and poured a Powerade in the pack. Came out with about 8oz of water left in the pack. What's my dealio, man? I'm starting to think I have a problem:lol: (working in 65' controlled temps all day long sitting in a chair is prob. the issue:lol:)

http://www.kansasmountainbiking.com/pics/IMG_0024.jpg

And it's pretty-much official...I'm still not liking the Conti Mountain King 2.4 Supersonic's. They're lighter than a fizzy-lifting-drink, but they just don't grip like I've grown accustomed to with the Nevegals and Excavators. I ended up running down this fairly fast hill with a left turn and smacking into the same tree both loops. The trail had a dry/loamy feel to it...covered with dry fir tree leavin's and my bike just felt like drifting wide around all the fast corners instead of digging in hard. On the last loop, I ran into a different tree and tore my nice riding shirt. Oh well...nuff pissing and moaning. It was a fantastic ride still. Felt like I was in a different state. Not very typical for Kansas singletrack.

I was kinda dissapointed that we did the trail the same direction both times instead of letting me jump off the bigger "fun rocks"...I had to try to hop up on to them instead.

Rock!

Aug 15th 2009

I turned 24 this past friday and celebrated by riding my bicycle! it had been a solid three weeks since i had been on my bike and i was very excited to get back on the trails. Numerous obligations, work, family visits, and phish kept me away from Missoula and too busy and tired to go riding. While i have not been able to ride my bike as much as i wanted to this july/august, it still has been a great couple of months so far. I inted to spend a lot of time on the trials this fall, and hopefully do some traveling around the state enjoying great weather in serach of new rides and adventures.

The birthday bike bonanza began at the hometown stomping grounds, The Rattlesanke Recreation area. Unfortunately, friday was kinda cool and a bit rainy. I think like 65 degrees or something. Anyway, it was near perfect, aside from riding in the rain. Rode from home to the trailhead with my gf and rode another 14 miles of swoopy singletrack, rode back home, grilled a ny strip and some portabello mushrooms, and proceeded to eat cake!

We decided to head up to the Flathead and set up base camp at my gf's parents house for the weekend and try to find some new rides up there. As it turned out, the riding up there was pretty fantastic! We traveled up MT 35 along Flathead Lake, turned at Big Fork, and headed towards the Jewel Basin. We ended up riding an out and back trail that skirts the Jewel Basin boundary line. Trail #544 ened up being an awesome 12 mile ride with techy/rocky/exposed sections in the climb that turned into fun little drops on the way back down. The weather did not cooperate with us at all this weekend and we ended up riding #544 in super wet conditions and cold weather. The temp was probably about 58f and it drizzled on us the whole way up. Fortunately the forest canopy kept us pretty dry and we didnt need out rain coats untill it started to downpour and hail on us on the way back down.

We tried finding another ride the following day. If we found it, we would have riden up to a lake and had a 7 mile single track decent. Unfortunately, the weather was much the same as it had been for the past few days, albeit not as rainy. We were tired and couldnt find the trailhead. So we ended up riding #544 again but in a bit drier conditions. The trial drained amazingly well and was in great shape. Here's
a link if you want to see what it looks like on a normal clear day.

Happy trails!

Ran acrossed a guy on a Cross bike last night, I asked if it was a GT frame? He said it was an old Zasker frame that he converted by using some old bikes in the back of his grandparents garage. It was definately a stand out bike painted in rattle can orange. I liked it.

I have been off the bike for about a month or so, out side of riding with my son. He’s seven, so not much of a ride when I’m out with him. Last night I got out on the trails with a friend for a bit. I’ve been running and swimming in the absence of riding, so my fitness level is way up. That was good, but my bike handling skills have suffered due to the lack of riding. We got a late start and ended up riding the last mile or two in the woods with prettymuch no daylight. I swear I must have been using the force or something, because I could not see crap and still maintained a pretty quick pace. Overall it was an awesome ride, but I did end up with a nice size hipper from washing out on the wet pavement at speed. That part kinda sucked. (Sorry no photos this time around)

I run 38psi.

I didn't like the Conti's underinflated. Squirrely. They liked to wander under my 200# butt. I was running Nevegals and Excavators at 35psi and they felt pretty good. I think 38psi is a good sweet spot for me though. Not too harsh, but not so squishy that they crosshatch, fold up on a corner, or pinch out. I was considering going tubless with some Nevegal's and Stans b/c they seem to be a firmer casing and I can run them a little lower w/o them feeling squirrely, but I'm not ready yet to plop down the cash to do it.
