I set off to ride a trail I hadn't yet ridden since being here in Boulder (Betasso Link, Canyon Loop, etc.) I was greeted by a giant wall of rocks and dirt that I walked up. The SS has been beaten. Once at the "top" the thunder warned me to turn around and go home and try again another day but I didn't listen. I took this when that happened:
The sprinkles started then the sky opened up and lightning and thunder scared me back home. I think this is my favorite trail so far out here and can't wait to get more time out there. I am now on the couch still trying to warm up from being frozen and coasting down the mountain. |
I'll go check that out on Sunday! I have ridden the road bike out that way a few times and seems like a great area for some dirt. Thanks.

East Branch Trail
Went out today for a mellow ride on the East Branch Trail in Huntington, Ma. The trail is an old carriage road that parallels the East branch of the Westfield river. Lots of nice scenery and opportunities for swimming in the river. Not a technical ride, but it's dirt. It also gave me an opportunity to try out my recent vintage Airborne Lucky Strike build. The bike rode great, loving the Ti frame!

Today I rode 19.4 miles up and down the hills at Arastradero Preserve, also met a couple of mountain bikers and joined them for a few trail rides. The weather was pretty hot , 80F.

If you haven't been up there yet, get yourself up to the Sourdough/South St. Vrain area trails. Not far, and gooooood stuff! Bonus: very uncrowded in comparison to everything down closer to Boulder/Golden.

well, I went. I don't think the st vrain, sourdough area trails were made for SS rigid bikes (more likely I just suck or I did it the wrong way) as it was HARD. I walked probably a quarter of it just because I couldn't gain any momentum before getting to the next wall of rocks to hop up. Coming down was fine in most areas but would have been nice to have a bit of cushion to carry more speed. Anyways, I dropped the chain twice ********** and torqued the rear wheel out of alignment once so something about these Paul hex bolts is not quite holding up. The new bars were excellent and the loaded grips are really nice too. Finally, TL;DR

Went out to Braniard lake today and rode more of the ST vrain I missed last time and a fun short one called Little Raven. I wish some of these would be longer or they would allow bikes to go up the ridge trails.

Excellent! My fav route was this: start at the northern end of Sourdough, from Camp Dick, and head south. Take it all the way south to Brainard Lake Rd. Pedal up the road a bit until you can take Waldrop Trail (it'll be on the right) and takes you a bit more west. You'll intersect with South St. Vrain, and take it all the way down to the dirt road just off the P2P highway - Beaver Reservoir Rd. Pedal up Beaver Res. Rd. until you get to where you intersect Sourdough trail again. Take Sourdough Trail back to your car at Camp Dick. If shelled by the time you get to the bottom of SSV, you can always pedal back to the car on the P2P, which is a pain in the ass on a mtb, but way faster/easier if you're hurting. Just a starter! There is a lot of good trail up there that gets little use by most of the hordes. Particularly if you're willing to get up there on a weekday. 36 to the east, wilderness to the west, RMNP up north, Boulder to the south - within those bounds is a lot of good stuff. Get the Lat40 maps or topo stuff for your GPS if you use one of those, and get exploring! There is also a fun, but stupid pedaly pavement bit way to connect GGCSP and White Ranch together. |

Scrub... Love the photo's! The fallen cabin is really cool! Thanks for sharing.

good photos Scrub. I'll get out more and more. I'm still trying to tame the big wheels into doing what I want them to the whole time.
last night I went with the BMA crew out to Hall Ranch which is pretty wild. here is a view at the top. I definitely didn't clear them rock "garden" (read small cliffs and boulders going up) but had a fun time coming down and didn't fall so I'll count that as a win. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...01134744_n.jpg |

It was a lot of fun, My complaint with the trails around here are they seem to be short.

Rode Stevens Pass Bike Park with my son today - - a delayed birthday present from him (since my b-day is pre-bike-park-season). FANTISTIC day! Hero dirt, great weather; park is still new so only two blues and a black run but all fun in their own ways. We rotated through them numerous times - - must have gotten 13 or more runs in. Were pooped afterward. GoPro footage after we get home and I can do some editing.

Bull Mountain in Dahlonega was pretty cool, or at least what I saw of it. Didn't quite make it to the top this time. Maybe next time.

Probably my favorite trail ever. I've never cleaned it ascending either. Descending makes it all worth it though.
