You just need to ride more laps- do the loop both directions, do up the main trail more than once, do laps up and down the garden until you can clean the thing.

Aaaaand one more round, just because. It's near 5PM, I'm sitting onthe deck in a pair of boxers and flip flops, finishing my coffee before starting on a beer. All in an attempt to delay getting off my ass and mowing the lawn.

Tank-like SS with a blown out damper cart, oil leaky fork on Dakota? No problem!

Been doing some exploring around Bull/Jake Mountain. Mostly old closed forest roads, but there are some really good singletrack sections scattered around, just gotta look for 'em. Unfortunately, I left my 15mm QR axle on my car when cramming my bike in the back seat & lost it. Waiting on the $45 replacement:mad:

Also, tried out some urban freeriding around campus last week (on the rigid Wahoo...not leaving my nice bike out to be stolen during class). There's a really big set of stairs I had my eye on for a while--3 sets of 18 stairs with 7' flats in between them. Learned the hard way that I suck at urban freeriding, & fell down two of them. Would've had it if I didn't lose my footing after the first 2 or 3 steps:lol: Rear x-mart wheel is totally taco'd, had to carry the bike back to the apartment. On the plus side, I had an awesome story to tell the next class.

Dumb stuff newbies do:

With an over a decade of no cycling of any sort and not doing anything in a fitness type thing I've been on the back foot with getting into mountain biking, I live in a different town these days so I can't even visit my old trails.

So starting with zero fitness, very rusty bike handling skills, no knowledge of local tracks and an old worn out bike has been a challenge.

Two months ago I decided to start riding again, My local bike shop wisely helped me to make the cost effective decision to buy a new bike, A K later and I actually wish I'd spent a bit more and got a lighter bike but this bike is what I bought and is doing very well for what I spent, I've had this new bike for 6 weeks now.

Last week I Go to do a small near to home track, due to Logging the little track I want to do is closed so I carry on up the steep logging road until I'm knackered, well actually I got to the top of this big hill! Big seance of achievement for me!

So I get home and google the name of the track I saw sign posted. Face palm! according to the website another 1/4 hour ride and I would have had an awesome downhill instead of back down the logging road. Dam.

Toady, and I'm going to have another crack at this big hill, do the extra 1/4 hour and do the awesome down hill.
7/8th of the way up and I watch a helicopter go past as I'm at a bit of a clearing, Hmm, not often you watch a helicopter go past from a mountain bike, and your looking DOWN at the helicopter! (I started my ride from home, 19 meters above sea level)
The so called 1/4 hour easy ride across the ridge line was actually 1/2 an hour of mostly pushing my bike up stuff too steep and too hard for me, and not sure if I'm going the right way, bit of a downer at the time.

But the down hill, single track, no chance of getting up speed, to technical, absolutely awesome! could not have hoped for a more fun track! loved every second of it!
I'm doing that again!

And of course newbies don't bring cameras :(

With the top of the track being at 720M above sea level, I'm calling my fitness level (officially), wait for it:

Above zero!

Yeah, sounds like most of the local trails are trashed, as well as lots of people's lives/homes. Sad stuff!

nice!
I went out with the gf for her first ever trail ride yesterday to ride Marshall Mesa. She was a trooper and killed it. A little nervous for the downhills with the loose dirt but did very well overall. She picked up a Salsa El Mariachi off craigslist recently.

Just curious, how wide is the gap roughly? Looks like fun, but I know I'd only severely injure myself if I were to attempt something like that. :p

ed 10-03-13 06:47 AM

The gap is only around 2.5' drop and around 4' long. It's not so bad. If the open space wasn't there and it was only a 2.5' drop...most people wouldn't think twice. It's just mental.
