And berms are fun...I had a bit of an incident with berms this weekend on one of our local shuttle mountains. One trail is fast but extremely tight through trees...in some spots it's rather interesting with 29-30 inch wide bars. Was pinning it on a series of three small berms, laid the bike over more in each berm until the last one where I leaned it over so much that the pedal caught the remainder of a stump that was cut off just at ground level in the apex of the berm, the bike bucked, and I got shot forward. I shoulder tackled a tree but unfortunately, the tree won. So now I am out for 4 weeks with a 2nd degree sprain of my right shoulder AC ligament. The funny thing is...despite crashing, I'm still pumped at how fast I was going through that section! so, this means you'll be hitting it even faster when back on the bike, right? right? |
Ouch. Heal up.
Got a good trail ride in, despite eating it on an offcamber turn that I usually clean. Before today the last time I fell in that turn was 13 years ago. Once at the bottom, I had to go back up to the top and clean the line. |

I sure hope I didn't hurt his emotions.

2 days, two crashes.
This time, jumped a section of roots and came a bit short and got a wet root with the rear tire. |

Well, I pumped the shock up to "my gosh this guy is fat" and did a driveway test. Between me being on a 7" single pivot and going to a 5" air FSR it's going take some adjusting to get it wherer I want it. I'll also need to play with the travel of the fork to get that dialed in too.I'll see how it goes.
I built it up in hambone's bike shop, and he made fun of my saddle. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...66/Duro004.jpg |
Took it out for a shake down ride today........the jury is still out.
If I run the fork in the 150 setting it rides like doodoo. It seems to like the fork to be a little over 5 inches. I'm still searching for the right air pressure to get the rear to feel right. I did get all the shifting issues and little bugs worked out. |

It is a BIG curb...and with the sewer grate, it can be a pretty scary gap! |
I hate it when I have a stupid thought.
For example, I'm climbing today, almost to the start of the group ride I'm heading towards and I think about how much I'm enjoying the ride. And I realize, I'm enjoying the ride because my bike has been running great for the past month or so. My new wheels (Mavic 819 with King hubs) are sweet, my shock is working great, fork is great, shifting dialed. I'm riding well. This is a blast! The thought directly after that was "Damn it! I hope no one heard that!" Someone did. Two miles later, I reached my destination, which was the meeting point for a ride with a local group, FATRAC. They do a 12-mile loop so I start about 10 miles away, then ride up to the start, do the loop and head back to my car for about 26 miles. As I get there, I notice my front end is a bit squishy. I look down, and look at that - my front tire is near flat. I have a huge gash in the sidewall that the Stan's won't be fixing, so I pull out one of my spare tubes. I look at it and realize it's a Schrader tube. I don't even have a non-presta bike. So I get out my second tube, and it's presta, so I put the tube in and I'm all set. Unfortunately, the group had left about the same time I had gotten up there, so I was quite a few minutes behind. I start racing down the hill, and after about 6 miles, I catch the group. They do a quick regroup and we set off again. We go about a mile, and start a very, very short but steep climb. The person in front of me gets hung up, so I pause on the hill, balancing for a second. They get over the top and I pedal to get moving. As soon as the bike starts to move I hear a loud SNAP!! Ah. Broken chain  Luckily it broke directly adjacent to the power link, so I pulled the power link off, put the now-shorter chain back together and rode along the road for two miles back to my car (thankfully I was close to my car when this happened). My 26 mile ride turned in to 12 miles and a bunch of frustration :\ |
Saturday: 40 mile road ride on the Pista
Today: 3 hours on the mtb. Which coming into this was nice and clean, when done, it was far from clean. |

Nah...I actually like 'em.
HiRise is where it's at! My EA70's are as tall as Easton gets...I'm gonna have to switch brands now. Edit: Just learned something new... Answer Pro Taper 31.8mm is made from Easton's EA 70 * Easton EA 70 * 27" wide * 2" rise * 8 degree back sweep * 4 degree upsweep * 207-249g |

Got in two nice rides this weekend, a hard fast paced singletrack ride sat in the light snow. and a nice group ride at the local trail Sun. Got to see Ed working the local trail coordinater about some ladder to drop ideas he had. They put in a new paved road right through the middle of the trail. It goes strait down the hill, so... we tried to see how fast we could go down the fresh asphault. You could hear those big tires of Ed's howling down the hill long before you could see him! Ha Ha

Got in a good ride after work today. My 57 y.o. riding buddy went to the local hole with me for a while. I had a really good time, but WOW...it's getting dark quickly these days. I'm trying to convince him to ride with a light so we can stay out later on Tuesdays but he's a little apheard of night riding.
