I don't care much for cats, but your trails RAWK almost as hard as your pic's dood!
|
Rode yesterday and 'bout died.
Preface: I worked pretty hard on my house Saturday, Rode a hard 17.5mi Sunday, rode hard 10 mi Monday... So last night I got out to the trail with our local pastor and rode like 25 minutes. He pulled a hammy. I rode out to the trail head and there was a friend of mine...so we rode about 40 minutes and back out to the trail head. Dadgum if arch Nemesis Ricky wasn't hammering in with B2B and a few other's. I got about 10 minutes in and had to drop out...I was beat down. I rested a while and bombed a few sections...was heading out to the trail head when I ran into them again. I followed them for about another 1/4 mile and punk'd out. It was a great ride, but it was hard riding with 3 waves of fresh legs on the Komodo...especially after hitting it so much the last few days. |

Well I had my first flat on my commuter today. I realize that this is a mountain biking thread but it seems like people are reporting road miles too... :)
I was riding along the shoulder getting ready to turn off the main road onto a nice fast side road towards campus and all of a sudden the tire went VERY flat. Turns out I had a tack through the tire and out the sidewall:(. I didn't have any tubes (on me or otherwise) so I had to finish the trip to campus on foot. Nice weather though so me and my bike got to take a 45 min stroll in the sunshine today. I've had it for about 6 months now with ZERO flats until today so I can't complain. Anyways, been raining here until yesterday so nothing else to report. |
barefoot and pregnant
Today I took my "officially 9 months pregnant" ride...

Woah..........clipless feet?
|
Dude...that's just wrong.
You're looking fantastic, Marla...my wife gave me all kinds of excuses why she couldn't ride with me when she was prego:lol: |
Putted around at the Guv's yesterday. Lot's of people hikeing, so i settled for easy seat time.
Need to get in some miles today if it doesn't look too much like storms. |
Nice, Marla. My wife rode jeep roads until she was pretty far along and the stomach was too awkward for her to keep pedaling. Good luck with everything.
Still too much snow for off-road here, but I did see some prairie dogs off the side of the road while riding today - a good sign that spring is really coming (after this next storm hits, I hope). |
Hit up Bennet Gap in Pisgah today with The Girlscout and Hambone. The Girlscout was showing mad skills clearing one of the most tech sections of trail in Pisgah. I felt sure that we would be making a trip to the ER but he cleaned it twice. It was a great day with awesome weather and killer trails. Good times fo sho!
I have some good pics but Photobucket is loading them up sideways.......arrrrrgggggggg. |

Caught a piece of scrub in the rear wheel today. Wrapped around the cassette and bent the dérailleur hanger. Removed the dérailleur and bent it back straight. ( Except I went a little past straight and right to stupid) Couldn't get it indexed to save my arse. Finally bent it back the other way a little and it all came into order. In my repairs I did note a crack in a jockey pulley and the almost complete absence of teeth on both pulleys, and decided that a new drive train was in the near future.

Another 2 hour trail ride today. Nearly plowed into a newcomer to the sport who was sitting in a blind spot and huffing and puffing trying to catch their breath.

Bear with me now. Some shots from today, no action on the reason is that I'm still trying to figure out the timer function on this new camera of mine.
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0618.jpg Went right like I usually do, if go straight it's pretty much a straight downhill shot with two turns. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0620.jpg Come to the bermed corner, from there it's on, no turning back. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0621.jpg Fast series of corners. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0622.jpg Looking up at them. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0623.jpg Tight sharp corner. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0627.jpg The last of the upper portion http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0629.jpg http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0630.jpg Mid section of the switchbacks. |
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0631.jpg
Into the lower portion. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0633.jpg http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0635.jpg http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0636.jpg http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0638.jpg Those 4 turns can be really sketchy if you are off the line/out of rhythm. Went down many a times in the 3rd of the 4 turns. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0640.jpg Runout from the 4th of those 4 turns. http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/100_0644.jpg From that point it's just a few quick, non sharp turn and once you get to this corner you pretty much have it made. |
Well, yesterday was only my second day out on the Blindside since last fall. First race is coming up this weekend at Spokane’s Beacon. Man, do I have some cobwebs to shake out. Two different races / two separate courses: one Saturday; the other Sunday, on more-or-less existing courses each with some new wrinkles thrown in.
First outing was Tuesday evening; and that was more to bed in the new brakes and very tentatively get the feel for straddling the bike again. I took a lot of chicken-out lines and just generally felt rusty and sloppy. Last night was better. Hooked up with some other people out practicing and did parts of both courses. Dropped / boosted most of the stuff I know and have formed a mental picture of what I need to work on. Tomorrow will be the first official practice day with both courses ribboned off. Course 1 is going to include the once-infamous Rushmore drop. I’ve never done it but I’ve been rolling up to it and feel pretty good about my approach - - I just have to man up and drop in now. Most of the rest is the “old” course that I know like the back of my hand. Course 2 is basically the “new” course with a few new sections / stunts. There’s a double from last year that I never hit that I’m bound and determined to work on tomorrow and clear. About midway down is a three-pack section that I have never been able to rhythm right to hit doubles 2 and 3. Plus, after that is a brand new double right after the berm-to-berm gap. So it’s a “get your flow on” deal of down a rock face into a set of three doubles in succession, right-hand berm and hip into a gap-and-left-hand berm, then the new double to hit when you straighten back out. Down near the bottom is a new line cut down the ‘waterfall’ rock face that sends you up to the edge of a gnarly little rock roll that I also HAVE to man up and do tomorrow. Most of my time tomorrow is probably going to be pushing up and sessioning down those sections until I feel comfortable on them, then hopefully put it all together into at least one flowy top-to-bottom before I call it a day. Rushmore http://p1.pinkbike.com/photo/430/pbpic430240.jpg Berm-to-berm - - Fun! http://p1.pinkbike.com/photo/2969/pbpic2969106.jpg |
