Makes sense. I want to run rigid on my 29er sometimes but the niner is the only fork that realy appeals to me because it's about the same axle to crown as a sagged 100mm reba. All the other forks I've seen are a bit shorter.

Yesterday was a nice one too.

The trails are confused right now. One side of the network is powdery dry with an occasional damp spot, the other side is still soupy, deep'ish mud. The weather today was a perfect 50 degrees and sunny.
Rode today with a couple of local buddies, Ricky and Harlan. Ricky and I are always fairly close (according to him)...he says he can't keep up with me and I say I can't keep up with him. I'd say that may be somewhere close to true when I'm riding the Crapper at our local trails, but when I ride the Komodo...he starts climbing and won't freakin' stop, man!! I had to dadgum stop and rest for a moment today:lol: Harlan is riding a DosNiner that's a stinkin' XC rocket, (I took it for a pking lot spin) Ricky's riding a Giant 1x9 HT. We were all together on the first climb with Harlan cussing @ Ricky and I for still wearing diapers. I told him he's pissed b/c he's back in diapers after a short hiatus. (he's older than us by a few) Anyway...we were all together holding tight and pushing hard up the first few climbs to a paved 44mph DH (that I know in my heart we could gt oer 50 if we tried), but when we got to the last climb...my stinkin' heavy old bike got the best of me. The uplifting part was when Ricky told me that there was no way he could hang on the downhills. I guess I was smoking them. To be expected...DH is where I belong. XC is where I live. The 55 was smooth as heck though. One thing I don't like about it so far is when I climb this steep paved road at our local trail network...I'm leaning back much more now that I'm set at 6", so my suspension is basically topped out with my weight back...when I pedal, I sink into the travel an inch or a little less, but between pedal strokes, the fork has a palpable top out. When I bunnyhop, I definitely don't feel it b/c the hatchback cartridge does a great job of impersonating a rebound damper, but when I'm really shifted rearward and pedaling like a puking dogg...I can feel a little top-out that can't be described as harsh...just slightly annoying. If this is the worst that comes of this fork...money well spent IMO. If I find other crap to piss'n'moan about...I'll make it known. After riding XC with XC'ers on it today...I do wonder why I'm not on a PIKE that can be dropped to 95mm, but I'm sure the next time I go out by myself and enjoy the jumping, DH stuff, and urban drops...I'll remember why I got the silly frok. Besides...the crapper is pretty fast. Fast enough for KS XC. |
The bottle drop.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0025.jpg Chunky. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0091.jpg Spring isn't here yet. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0115.jpg It was nice and warm today though. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0104.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0083.jpg |
Got my first ride this year in. More on this later (video hopefully).

4 rides this weekend, 2 on the road and 2 on the mtb.

Killah 45 minute ride this evening on the Schwinn recumbent stationary:lol:

No rides =(
Lots of nice weather, close to the 80s today |
1st singletrack of the season on Saturday, 70F, 2 crashes, rear slid out from under me probably due to mud and maybe excessive pressure (was running 40psi in both). Cleaned 2nd jump for 1st time. Ran into tree, caught front wheel, endo’ed and got thrown down the trail. Front wheel tacoed. Was able to climb out from Nine Mile Run to Blue Slide park. Man, I hurt today.

Snow vid from a recent shuttle day. The snow was deep and sketchy. Good thing the trail is steep so you could actually ride. Lots of bails and a fun day riding.

Got in a quick ride in on the pista.

nice ride this morning in El Paso
I checked out some new singletrack (for me), which was built by the local mtb club, Borderland Mountain Bike Association (BMBA). Great job on the trail guys! Lots of twists and turns, very bumpy, and lots of fun. I started out at about 05:45, and basically followed the route for the upcoming Coyote Classic XC race here in EP. Had about an hour of darkness before dusk became strong enough to do without lights. I won't be racing this, since I'll be in Ruidoso, NM that weekend, and as a newbie I'm still not sure about racing....excuses... yeah, but anyway, whoever will be racing will have lots of fun on the singletrack and get some nice views while they're at it. Here's some pics.
Here's the beginner course I followed http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/player/7661549 Full Moon about to set behind the Franklin Mountains http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010413.jpg Same shot, but w/15 second exposure http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010410.jpg In the other direction, sunrise approaching http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010416.jpg http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010425.jpg http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010426.jpg Sotol Forest singletrack http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010439.jpg This is why it's called "sotol forest" http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010442.jpg http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010445.jpg http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010446.jpg http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/P1010448.jpg |
Wow...that place is a foreign land compared to my typical riding experience.

3.5 hours in the woods this morning that made me go "aaaaaaaaaaaah that was nice" afterwards, wishing for a cigarette.

Friday got in a good trail ride, ground is firm enough finally.
Today got in a good road ride today since I went to take the mtb out today and found the rear rim is cracking. |
Got in a quickie hour-and-a-half 17.5mi ride today with my Arch Nemesis...Ricky. It was fast paced and stinkin' fun. This particular trail was in near perfect shape. It doesn't have much for climbing, but it's flowey, fast, and the cute little turns have cute little berms.
(LRT x2) |
Well after checking, the rim on the back isn't cracked so I got a good trail ride in today.

Wow Atxlatino, excellent spot to ride. Great shots as well.
I had my first MTB ride this evening. Here in OKC at the Bluff Creek trails. http://www.okearthbike.com/MAP%20OF%20BLUFF%20CREEK.pdf I generally ride a Hybrid around the lake on the paved road around 10 or 11 miles. I made it close to 2 miles on the Bluff Creek trail and was Kaput. :) It was great though! Pretty technical sections, lots of roots though. Some decent single track as well. Very impressive trail that's very close to home. I will be back. I did figure out that my seat is a bit high. I was unable to scoot my butt back far enough due to the seat height. Will have to lower it a bit I think. Thanks. |
Went for a hike last week.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0008.jpg There is a big chunk of land nearby owned by three towns. They can't agree what to do with it other than to not develop it. Lots of moto traffic, and some fairly decent bike specific social trails have sprung up over the years. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0017.jpg Went to scope things. I can pedal (3 miles on road) to acces the stuff, and it connects to other trail as well. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0005.jpg Not the best of trail stuff, but no drive needed to access it, and there is enough stuff to be up there all day. Not bad. Not bad at all. There is an old dam. Saw a couple wild turkey. Had a good day. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0001.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0002.jpg Did a little tour of a nice spot Saturday morning. Good stuff. FattyB on the backside of an A-frame. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1.../IMG_0018a.jpg Keylow hits up an "angled rock face" move. Funky perspective from up top. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1.../IMG_0011a.jpg Doing my humble best. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1.../IMG_0020a.jpg Just because they are so dang cute. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0248.jpg |
