Today on my bike ride my gears kept skipping so it wasnt an enjoyable ride anyone know any tips on how to fix that
|
Should be solved by a few turns of the barrel adjuster in the correct direction.
Is it skipping while shifting up (to a smaller cog) or down (to a larger cog)? |
It was my day off and the bad weather forecasted never materialized. Matt and I went out to a trail here in Wichita called Millers Meadow. It was a lot more challenging for than either of us were expecting. Its about 5 miles of pretty much dead flat riding around fields and though narrow hedgerows. If you have ever had to pull stumps in a hedgerow you know that the roots are more than abundant. It really was nuts how rooty it was. There were all so creek crossings that were built with concrete slabs and were pretty sketchy to get over. Pretty fun ride esp for Wichita, and its cool that its just a little more than 3 miles from my house.

I'm very stressed out! I'm going to the Allegrippas Trails this Sunday and my knee is jacked - Monday after work we were in quebec, the forest floor is covered w/ ferns and Whitetail trail is narrow. Anyway I wondered off line and smacked a log hidding in the ferns and took a huge somersault crash. My buddy came riding up, asked if I was ok - I said I'd make it so he quickly snapped a pic of me laying on the ground in agony :notamused:
So, limping around taking it easy so I'll be somewhat recovered for the Sunday Allegrippas ride. Here's a pic of the trail we were on, sorry it's so dark. I'm hesitant to post a pic of me laying crumpled on the trail... http://i675.photobucket.com/albums/v...r/IMG_0015.jpg |
I've done the exact same thing. Leaves covered a big root just off the side of the trail and I went OTB. Laughing friends included.

Sante Fe Lake. The trail system was really hard to follow and they were not marked at all. Still fun though

Blood RAWKS!
I got out this evening at dusk. I took out the SS again to see how it did at a fast pace with the 16t rear. I only rode it once with the 16 and that was Tuesday with my friend at a S--L---O----W pace. It did well, and I'm gonna leave it that'a'way. I need to get back out on the Komodo now that I have my puddles back on her. It's pretty goofy man...since I got fork on the SS, that's all I've ridden. YJ...how's that 55r treating you? |
It still seems to be going strong... I hope I didn't jinx it.
There maybe something else in the works though. |

I made it out to Alligrippas Trails on Sunday, left early since it's a 2.5 hr drive, w/ two riding buds. Very beautiful lake and camping areas, pick'd up some maps from the visitors center and drove to the trailhead. For a Suday it wasn't crowded at all, passed maybe 15 people the whole day. The trails have a lot of FLOW which ups the pace and fun factor for us since we're used to riding hiking trails. Trails are well marked, it would have been nice to know which way to take the loops but either way you would choose would be fun. Just need more time to explore.
The flow of the trails were awesome - it seemed there was always enough of a hill to get speed to get you up the next climb. and the downhill whoops got us airborne w/ no prob even when taking it easy going down a new trail. We rode about 15 mi before I got a flat (and my knee still feels like hamburger from a wreck last week...) and we called it a day after that, went to the beach and bbq'd. Definitely needs to be a weekend camping trip next time we go - which will be in Aug! |
We have snakes in the trees here in good ol' Kansas.
JRA descending some wide switchbacks...going fast...breathing heavy...hooked down...pumped the corner into a small jump between two trees...3-4' snake sprawled out all over the trail. I put the Elixirs to work and stopped well within 2-3 feet of his nose. Plenty of room to spare. I stood there and watched for a while. (I have a fascination with reptiles for some reason) All the freakin' sudden...the dadgum thing just went up into the bloody trees! How freakin' many snakes are in the trees that I didn't even stinkin' know about? For some reason...I spent the rest of my ride looking up:lol: |
Finally had a couple straight days of no rain and the trails were dry enough, so I got in a trail ride.
Tomorrow it's back to the same old routine of road rides after work. |
Went out and did a couple of trails in North Fruita that I had not done before....just absolutely lovely!!!! Even with the relatively heavy rains we have had over the past couple of weeks, the desert was bone dry.

Really nice ride up Hex Mtn. trail in central Washington; was in the sunny slot between thunderheads to the east and marine overcast that shrivelled up after crossing the Cascades. Very satisfying climb of ~2700 feet and fast, sometimes scary downhill (but that's what it's all about).Stupid not to take a camera.
In reply to earlier post about skipping chain: Could be as simple as your shifter indexing being out of adjustment; more seriously, a worn chain or worn chain and worn out cassette as well. |
Took the Blindside up to Beacon for my first downhill runs since I broke my collarbone. Boy, it sure felt good.
Rained cats and dogs for about 15-20 minutes when I first got there; but waited it out 'til things cleared some. Temp was perfectly cooled off (68) and the dirt was primo. Did about three runs of the 'new' course and one of the 'old' one; very tentative at first. Probably boosted/dropped only half the features my first run and slowly screwed up the courage . . . prudently. By my last run on the new course, I was feeling it more and launched a couple of the familiar gaps. Going to take a couple more evenings out there and the "pull" of some good riding partners to get back in better form; but it felt pretty good for a first-time-back play session. |
Glad to be back on the bike Doug?
2nd straight day on the mtb, tomorrow's looking like 3rd straight day. |
^^ Oh indeed I am. I am not wothy of it yet; but I shall again be its master.
Glad to hear you're getting back in the dirt. |
Yeah, the 3 speed setup is doing wonders for me.

I've got some pics from a ride on Pot Peak/Devil's Backbone (Chelan) that I'm gonna get posted up here sometime. |
My local shop's Wednesday night group ride was a good one last night. Lots of up and down and we ended up covering 21 miles (area Felt rep was along and he actually had a computer). I was properly pooped; goodly distance for the 40 lb. Moto. Thunderstorm had the good grace to hold of 'til we got back to the shop. Got a nice light show to go with the dogs and beer.

Outta town for the weekend. (In-Laws) Went to a little trail that's usually on the Midwest Fat Tire series tour...though this year it is not on the list. I should have taken this as a sign b/c it's out in the middle of nowhere circling a lake in Crawford county North of a tiny town called Gerard, KS. It's pretty apparent that no maintenance has been done here this year except for maybe 1/2 of a mowing.
Rode with my wife's dad and I got 1 mile in and pinch flatted. Fixed the flat and went about 1 more mile before I decided to ride the pavement around the lake and go home. The place was like riding through a dadgum corn field or something. Knee-high grass full of ticks and poison ivy everywhere. Quite the disappointment. Ended up riding the SS on about 15mi of gravel road instead. Got bored with that pretty quick and went back to the house and watched NWD9 (my Fathers Day present) |

My usual adroitness with timer shots was absent today.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...e/IMG_0164.jpg Steepening up that HTA nicely! Didn't bottom, but nearly. On a drop that small, meh, added a couple psi to the fork and all was good after wards. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...e/IMG_0123.jpg As an aside: M$%^&*F!@#$%R! When is it going to stop raining around here********** Ended up just playing around/sessioning some sorta' dry-ish stuff around the parking lot of the default trails today because everything else was a freakin' marshland. |
^^ Isn't that why it's always so pretty and green there ;)? That's one reason I don't live on the coastal side of our state anymore, beautiful as it is.
