Plattekill rocked yesterday. Chunky and loose shale, wet and rainy off and on. We got in eight runs. The new-to-me big bike worked beautifully. Platty has some steep f'ing stuff. Excellent day on a bike, with more of similar planned for future. Can't wait until Diablo and Killington open for weekdays later this month!
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1.../IMG_0074a.jpg Anthony was the only one to hit this up. Landed roughly 15 feet out, about 25 down. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0065.jpg I had the only camera; only one shot of me, a bit late. Most drops there range in size from 3-6' or so, with some other optional monsters like the one above. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f1...9/IMG_0073.jpg |

Gnarly...
I don't have the cajoles for a lot of that stuff... not so much the ladders and what not, just the drops. Scared I'll break the bike! Cross Rides aren't real good friends with gravity as I recall... Had I a camera this weekend, I'd show you the shiner I got from a bar to the face after taking a ladder just a bit too slow in Pope & Talbot earlier... |
OK, this is not a 'yesterday' report; but it is my most recent ride report. We were vacationing in Breckenridge, CO last week and I got to get out on some of the local trails a bit. Nothing high-altitude-and-epic, since a lot of the higher-up stuff is still snow-bound there.
But there are a bunch of fun little trails networked just outside of town - - many accessible right off the upper roads, off the ski-out runs or even out back of the condo where we were staying. There is even a little "Freeride Park" that the town of Breck set up in the woods off a ski-out run. It has about 10 wooden stunts strung together: teeters, skinnies, wall-rides and even a little DJ line. I spent a half-hour there one day mostly playing on the skinnies and trying to ride them clean. It wasn't anything spectacular but it was a fun little basic set of skills-honers to knock off some of the cobwebs. OK, now . . . the last ride I took was on our final evening there. A simple jaunt from the Irish Pub back to our condo with the wife - - with a couple Imperial pints of good Irish brew on board; and . . . well . . . I always get in the most trouble when I'm just screwin' around . . . http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...Mental_leg.jpg This is what I'm beginning to term "Mental Leg" - - Syncros Mental pedals come with a warning about lower-leg protection for a reason. I think I better put the short pins on the DB's pedals for everyday trail riding. |
is that your calf or your shin?
|
Calf. Always vulnerable even with shin guards on.
Edited for clarity -- my bad; read your question wrong. |
sweet battle wounds from having fun.

We should start a wounds thread.
I have lots of places on my legs where there are kinda craters, like. Just places where the flesh got chunked out and never came back. Ah, good times......... |

today one of those mobile cranes passed me while i was in a bike lane. scared the poo out of me when i suddenly saw tires as tall as me 3 feet to the left. only rode 10 miles (road) since it is like 95 and like 70% humidity.

Two shifter's, one RD hanger, two tires and tubes, one frame, and one back was the cost of yesterday's ride. We had 11 people (4 people had to bail at the last minute), 6 of whom had never biked off road, 2 who had only been once before, and 3 (me included) who ride frequently. Lots of crashing, lots of carnage, and it took us an hour to make a 20 minute drive. Half the convoy made it through the light, and one kid's car couldnt keep up (above 60 it wobbles like crazy).
On an unrelated note, we went to a flea market and got some really nice new blue anodized valve covers one of my friend's Nova and a little chainsaw, all for 25$. Good times, schools out, and I've got a month and a half before we go out to Colorado with the MTB's for 3 weeks. |
You are going for 3 weeks? I am ****ing jealous. I am going to be lucky to get out there for 3 days.
|
Hehe, yeah. Its really more like 2.5 with side trips along the drive, but still.

First accident happened right in front of me and we stopped and waited for the second one because we knew there was no way he can make that turn.:roflmao2: |

For us, the funny thing was that I said that we shouldnt, but the others who had been there said we should, so when everything went wrong, I wasnt blamed like the others.

Wen't to Southern MO for the weekend for a Flammy'Reunion...there wasn't a trail in sight. I did ride some "pit bikes" with my nephews and burnt the krapp out of my right calf! Woohaaa! It was freakin' fun.
Went for a great ride on the SS at the Mansion today with my best friend. He has ridden 3 times in the last 2yrs  It was a good test to see if the 16t was a low enough gear for the Mansion, I guess. I liked it though...it was nice being able to ride at a pace that we could hold a good conversation about our kids and junk. (I was doing most of the talking, hahaha) I didn't stick it to him very hard though, I didn't want to discourage him into not coming back out. Good times. |

Webb Canyon. Met a cool old guy named Gary with ten times my guts. He gave me a few tips. Got in three runs and a few tries on this ladder. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...madness005.jpg A buddy. |
Which Webb Canyon did you ride??
