Pink bike

I am a little confused. I agreed to pick up an extra shift here @ the hospital where all I have done all day is eat lunch with my wife and kid, surf the net, read my online copy of MBAction, and watch "Mr. Deeds" on the computer. It is raining outside and the riding would suck anyway. The thing that confuses me is (besides why anyone needed to work this shift) what's up with Pink bikes.

-There's a website called Pinkbike.com
-There's a new post in the hardtail thread (I think) with a pretty cool 'flow' pink bike (it's a nice bike, BTW)
-There's a dude racing a single speed pink hardtail 26/29'er

I'm not against pink as a color...I just didn't think it would be a popular color for a bike. Also...why name a website pinkbike.com? Is there some sort of inside story or something? If not...let's make one up.

I saw a Trek 820 the otherday that was spraypainted hot pink just enough so that you could barely see the original decals/paint undearneath. On the downtube in black sharpie the owner had written "Report this bike as stolen pawn broker". I wish I had a camera with me.

I am not sure why pinkbike.com decided on pinkbike. But the site has been around a long time (longer than most bike sites to be honest)...I would assume it has something to do with this type of statement

"it takes a real man to pull off pink"...

Pink was very popular last year, forks and bikes were going pink.

Hahaha

Couldn't agree with ya more on that one.

I am a Cardiac Sonographer...I do sonograms on people's heart's. I am also cross-trained in Stress Testing, EKG, and Pacmaker Clinic. There has to be an EKG technician at the hospital from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. 7 days per week, so I opted to go for the overtime. It was pretty wack...they had to pay me my Sonography wages at time-an-a-half to do the job of an EKG tech.

Saturdays are usually slow, but not that slow. Yay health care. That's almost as bad as stinkin drug rep's that spend billions of dollars putting their logo's on pens and clocks and crap so they can advertise their drugs. They give all that crap away and hike up the cost of the drugs and who suffers?

The old people who can't get insurance. There was a time when I collected all that crap, sold it on eBay, and gave the money to a couple of old people. I really felt like I was stickin' it to the man that day!

yeah please don't take my comment as a personal stab. i'd do the same if the opportunity presented itself. i have a good idea of what you make, so please don't make us all on this forum sick to our stomachs on your pay for the extra shift you just pulled.

i have done the same stuff as you minus sonograghy. this reminds me of the times when i was a monitor tech in a heart hospital for 10 bucks and hour and they would sit a "fill-in" RN (2yr assoc. degree) next to me for 50 bucks and hour ---12 hr shift!! wise use of hospital funds. the former RNs in management abuse their power. whatever...

all i can say, i better have opportunities in a few yrs to sit on my butt as physician on an "extra" shift just because they "need" a physician on site. new mtb=one shift....heheheheh

to OP: sorry for hijack, healthcare wasted funds irks me.

Makes ya feel good though when you make one third their wages and you're teaching them rhythms, eh?

Maybe I should try to bring back the TEAL BIKE!!!

I rode past a guy the other day on the trail. He was riding a Fuel with a Reba (I think) that he ripped off all the logos, and the entire bike was flat black. I thought it was very tasteful. Pretty mean looking.

Teal could be mean looking, right?

Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects

it's all about splatter-painted stems

Some of the people around here ride pink bikes because they are fast enough to pull it off. Other's are doing it to show that their support for breast cancer (or any cancer for that matter). There is actually a breast cancer awareness team in our series this year which is pretty cool.
