The last ride of my green machine that didn't work out...

That's a '98 trek 930 made outta OX comp steel I stripped and powdercoated and I didn't realize it was originally spec'd with something like a 50mm fork till after I built it up, so I just couldn't get the geometry to work with my fork (had it set to about 65mm on the above ride). Too bad cuz it turned out nice and I built it up cheap.

New frame is here, waiting for a couple more things and I'll take the failed one apart.

I'm pretty stoked about it. This is my first build, first time I got to choose all the parts. I went with XT hubs and stans rims, king headset, juicy 5s, truvativ gxp 1.1 cranks, surly 19t cog, raceface seat post and an azonic stem. It came in at 24.04 lbs.

I've ridden it once so far (Tuesday). My legs haven't been this sore since my first ride in 2006 :o

Beautifull bike Bro!!!:thumb:
I'd love to own one,or at least later replace my RL frame w/ a Bander (I've a friend who is a Vassago dealer, and rolls a sweet 2x9 Bandersnatch :))

The old bike -- quite an improvement over the 1980-ish Huffy "ATB" that got stolen in college: ;)

The new bike, loaded up for a picnic ride. No way I was going to deal with being jostled on my CAAD8 along the gravel C&O towpath:

Thanks! I've ridden it three times now. Twice on a trail I knew would be no problem, and then yesterday I decided to push it. Ended up kicking out 23 miles of singlespeed awesomeness. I love it. Love this bike. I was unsure about it when I bought it because I bought it strictly off of the info on their website, some stuff I read, and a recommendation from a guy I trust (who doesn't have one). There's only one dealer in Northern California of Vassago and it sounds like the dude works out of his kitchen or something so I never test rode one or any of that. When we got it put together and I sat on it though, it was perfect, and I'm riding stuff with huge confidence that I would shy away from on my full suspension bike.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with that bike. I love the bike but I feel like it holds me back a bit and I might need something a little more slack. Maybe I can pick up a stumpjumper frame and swap all my parts :o

I love that trail, sadly I've only hiked parts of it (Part of the section just out side of Cumberland), but I want to ride the whole thing.

I just rode from Shepherdstown to a little south of Cumberland on my fixed gear roadie with cross tires last weekend. Was a nice ride. That area is beautiful this time of year. Was also my girls first ride on the yo betty I bought for her, and set up SS. Its a nice SS ride, and the roadie did great on it. We are planning a trip this fall to ride the whole thing, and stay at some B&Bs on the way.

I haven't even been up to Great Falls on it before (usually ride the Capital Crescent on my road bike instead). I went with a bunch of others to see off a friend as she left for a cross-country year-long bike tour:

That one with the Schwinn was the remnants of the surge from Hurricane Isabel way back in '03. We had the day off from work, so I took the bike out (back then, it was my only bike) and rode around town to get some pics of the aftermath.

Yup, a cross bike would do fine. I wanted a more plush ride than I'd get on a rigid bike, and since it was only about 15 miles each way (not counting the 3-4 it took to ride to mile marker 0), I figured I could put up with the extra weight and fewer hand positions of the Rush. And besides, it was still good for over 20 mph on the cruise back to Georgetown.. ;)

^ Nice SS... did you take of the frame logos or did it come like that? Is that a Saint crank... did you take of the logos as well? Pedals?

Is the white garage wall really mandatory?

So many questions... :D

Dannihilator 04-28-09 08:46 PM

1: The logos have been off.

2: It's not the 2009 saint line up.

3: I didn't really feel like going any further.

A Deejay?

I don't feel so bad now...that's like, what 3 forks in ...

...wait a minute. (55, Domain, Float)

Nevermind.

Dannihilator 04-28-09 09:12 PM

Yep. I wasn't really digging the tora all too much.

ca7erham 04-29-09 01:28 PM

Is it at 3 inches? Also, any issues with the fork being a bit stiff?

Dannihilator 04-29-09 06:07 PM

4". No issues at all.

ca7erham 04-29-09 06:47 PM

It really looks nice with DJ. That being said, it looked nice with just about all the forks I've seen on it :).

mzeffex 04-29-09 06:58 PM

How do I uh.. post a picture on here? I'd like to post my ride :D
