Thanks for the kind words y'all. This is the first bike I'd built from the frame up, after a very nice german lady hit me on my track bike (the day after Thanksgiving) and paid me $1200 for the pleasure. I stretched it as far as I could with the help of craigslist and swap meets, but I'm sure I went slightly over budget (best calculations put this at around $1400 invested) after the last round or two of upgrades. (seatpost and tires) I've since built another (single-speed/fixed-gear commuter) that gets more miles put on her but this is still my favorite. I feel like I'm biking around on a monstertruck when I'm riding this thing, as it crushes everything in it's path with those huge wheels.. A few weeks ago I was pulled up at a stop light and the bum on the corner shouted "DAMN! Today the bikers are scarier looking than the cars!" That made my day, though I'm sure it helps that I'm 5'10", 200lbs, and covered in tattoos. :P

Does anyone have any recommendations for a chain retention system that's slightly less spendy than E13's offerings?

Does Everybody here have Wellgo pedals like in the bike above with the reflectors taken off?

How is that possible, exactly?

Here's my bike fitted with my new IRC Smoothies for the road/bike path.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...semislicks.jpg

These tires are incredible by the way!
They helped me reach my new top speed of 77kph!

What I like about this bike is that I only have to swap the Smoothies for my Michelin Hot X and it's an incredible x-country/light downhill ride.

Set-up is '98 Trek 8000, '98 Marzocchi Z2 Bomber (rebuilt recently), Bontrager Race Lite crankset, USE XCR suspension seatpost, and SRAM X9 drivetrain. Weight: 25.5 lbs

I'm a noob. I know it doesn't have quite the best ratings, nor do I have a good camera, but..

And, my suspensionless (for now) light trail bike

How could I forget my mosh method 4 star? Its a repaint, in the pro XL size. I had to put some crappy mag wheels on it till I could get new wheels. I will change to alex 36h sealed ones soon.

Maybe this thread should be changed to "Post your Trek's". Here's another one:

I just bought it yesterday so its still stock. I might replace the fork soon, cause it feels a bit too stiff and it can't be adjusted.

Captain Crash 07-28-07 11:07 AM

PeteeH, are those some sort of loose gravel tires?

morea 07-28-07 12:05 PM

PeteeH - they had one just like that at my LBS AFTER I bought the 4500... it's a sharp looking bike!

Pretty sick bike, I know you'll like it. I have the exact same one except in the brushed/silver color. After seeing that pic though, maybe I should have gotten the black/orange, ha.

Expect to see me in next years tour-de-france on it.
